I just NEED to know

is it the Radeon 9800?
or what?

PLEASE HELP G-NELSON!!!

Dear god no... The best in existence would be the Alienware Dual-PCI-E rig, consisting of two 6800 Ultra's.

Second, i'd have to say an X800 XT Platinum.

close race inbetween the X800 or the 6800, wai till the next gen ones come, theyll be better

I am sure there are better graphics cards than those.

Depends, you could have pixel perfect graphics at about 1 frame a second if you bought Pixar's rendering farm off them, but... I guess he meant for games - in which case the Alienware rig is the best in the world at the moment... even Bill Gates would have to make do with that.

Just wait till someone can have 4-5 video cards working together. ;)

btw, what other card do you think are better. that's the best $500 can buy. :D

:| Why is it either or the X800 and 6800, how about the X800 and 6800 are the best? It's been confirmed that both have strong points as well as weak points that balance out.

Voodoo2 pci slot baby!!!
it don't get much better then that!

you just got me confused as hell! lol
:borg:

the only way to determine that is with a 3rd party. in computers this would be the software,

**** the world everything is buisness now adays, so, they made hl2 better for ati, then the x800 is the best one out htere now.

if the software is designed for a 6800 then the nivida card is the best out right now. simple as that

these types of questions requuire a 3rd party wheather or not they ahve good points or bad.

im sure the government or NASA has a video card better then the x800xt lol

General: DAMNIT mr president call up Nvidia our 6800 ultras crapped out again we cannot launch the nukes!

seriously, i wonder what card they use to view all those satelite streams and pictures, and shit

I honestly enjoy the $1000 price tags on alot of these:

ATi Fire GL series
nVidia Quadro Series
Matrox MCAD, CDD, QID cards, etc.

They are workstation cards, that have the same GPUs as their gaming counterparts, just different board architecture and different drivers... and different pricetags :|

and no, NASA don't have 'better cards'. besides, they could view 'all their sattelite pictures n shit' back in 1990 with their cirrus logic GPUs. what makes you think they need something 20x better than an x800xt?

pobz how much did your card cost you? where you get it from?

XT's are roughly £360 depending on brand. Im guessing he has'nt actually got it yet if hes in UK but has it pre-ordered because all XT's i can find are pre-order only.

My Sapphire X800PRO is at "pick in progress" status atm, ready to be delivered to me tommorow w00t w00t for £29.99 extra :(, daylight robbery. £340 it cost me, the PRO isnt much worse than the XT imo, same as the 6800Gt isnt much worse than the ultra

Btw anyone wanting a sapphire X800pro desperately look no furtherhttp://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=62510 they have sold 10 since yesterday morning  thats £3000 they have made in less than 24hours on JUST the sapphire x800gfx card. Man, they must make some cash :hmph:

Yep you're right I don't have it yet, expecting delivery within the week as it's coming straight from the top.

You know how this dual card stuff rox!!! well I found something faster1!!! Voodoo SLI!!!11

For the ultimate best card that a gamer would/could buy would have to be this but at a £600 price tag it is a wee bit to much.

The CoolFX 6800ultra

I cant direct link it...dodgey website but its the first one on product news.

What makes it better than any X800?

Its overclocked standard, comes with watercooling standard. Its a bit pricey...id never pay that much for it but i am stating something and anyway, my Sapphire X800PRO will be here in 7 hours (1am now) :bounce:

Good luck with your X800 Pro. I am really satisfied with mine.

The X800 Pro overclocks like crazy.

Well, 6800 and X800 are just your regular stock graphics cards. Most developers, and animation companys, such as Pixar, have custom made top-of-the-line graphics cards.

They arent exactly graphics cards, they are hundereds of seperate computers and boards devoted to rendering pixel-perfect billion-polygon graphics at extremely slow speeds... Developers use the latest GPUs available at the time... I know, because I know a games developer that's just recieved a shipment of X800 XT Platinums.

Thats not exactly true.

The 6800 and x800 are infact the fastest video cards out there.......

Pixar and the like...(like predator said) use dozens/hundreds/thousands of CPUs tied together or "render farms"...and they can take days to render a single frame.

Speaking of render farms......how about Calc Farms! My personal favorite.

Earth Simulator

They operate at a whopping 35 Teraflops! That should be:

35,000,000,000,000 Flops <--can someone verify that?

Flop: Floating point operations per second. A measure of how fast a computer is based on calculations per second. A floating point is a number representation consisting of a mantissa, an exponent, and an assumed radix.
