is bink a true representation of what my fps will be when i have the actual game e.g is it running on my graphics card or is it a film?

confusionOOO

Video - noun - Recording of an event in which can be played back over a play back source.

Computer Game - noun - Game that runs at optimal performance based on your computers specs.

If you find a relation between these two, then yes.

No, the performance of the Bink videos is not an accurate representation of HL2/Source performance. The Bink videos are just that-- videos.* HL2/Source is a game engine. The requirements are different for each.

*They are in executable format, however, which simply means you don't need another program to run them.

if they are just videos, then why do i not get all the direct x 9 features? i have a ti4400 so this would follow that its running on my graphics card and is not just a vid (if it were a video i would see all the fancy dx9 lighting and stuff like i did in the handcam footage)

guys i dont appreciate the sarcasm btw, it was reasonable of me to think that because a. the above reason and b. 3dmark 2001 runs on a graphics card but looks like a vid, i thought bink was like this.

noone is able to see dx9 features if they were disabled while recording the vid. get it?:bounce:

I do believe the sarcasm is due to you being completely ignorant... :/

"the Half-Life 2 VIDEOS vill be release over steam today..." "Has anyone seen the newVIDEO???" "VIDEO this and VIDEO that."

is it possible to NOT get the feeling that these things are videos, not actual game-demos?

ok, morning grumpyness is over...

"My 3dmark looks like a video" I think someone has the case of "never have played games on a 486"...

look mate why are you all such geeky liitle smartypants pr*cks when i ask a simple fair question. why would they disable dx9 for the vids it doesnt make sense. i hd every reason to think the video may have been running as software because videos have been mentioned before as acutaly running as a program to allow the user to check his fps etc.

i fooking hate geeks especially ones that think they are clever.

and im not ignorant i'm just asking the damn question and i get flamed like hell.

Huge, there's been some debate over why those features were not included. It is clearly visable that anti-aliasing is turned off and it appears other DX9 features weren't enabled either. To answer your original question the video has nothing to do with how the game itself will run. I don't know why the video would run poorly on your machine, but it has no relavence to the performance of the game.

If you arent running the greatest machine in the world youll want to DL the bink RAD TOOLS and turn off some options and make yourself an new executable.
A couple vids ran pretty bad for me the way the were setup by Valve...
Heres what worked for me...

OPen Rad Video Tools

Browse to the movie directory

highlight a video

hit "advanced play"

in the "full screen" pull down menu select "Dont switch to full screen"

in the "Blitting style" menu select "DirectDraw to primary surface"

Hit "make EXE"

I found that ticking the Frames Per Second box and entering "30" in the box was all I needed to make it run smooth.
