They dont give u any kind of andvantage (no unlocks or speed increase for example). So whats the point?

What's the point in completing a game?

so the PC people dont feel like theyve 'missed out' on anything by not buying the 360 version.

What's the point of stats?

The answer: they're awesome.

So you'd prefer to be more powerful / faster than new players so that when they join a server they get raped? What if you joined a server of people who had racked up 100 hours and walked all over you. Does that sound like a fun / balanced game? And while we're doing stupid suggestions ADD A BAZOOKA TO CSS.

I can make people go BOOMS!

But the achievements are alot of fun - also makes some people play other aspects of the game to rack up enough to gain them. I don't normally play as a Sniper but I will to get the headshot award.

The point is you have something to work forward to. They are just cool, reason i buy games on the 360 rather then other consoles is the achievements.

In that case I better get COD4:MW as soon as its released!..... see my point?

To show off. Keep track. Show how you improved. Give an extra bit of replay value. List goes on.

Honestly, it's just something to make you work for, though it's only for a short time :p

Yeh, giving the people who have the most time logged on a game / score the highest unlocks is patently stupid. Giving the people who are already good an advantage is just unbalancing as heck.

Achievements are just kinda fun to get - like once you get the achievement for 1000 kills, isn't that going to feel good? Or make you feel like you're wasting your life, it's a toss up.

Achievements give you goals to complete to make it feel like you have beaten a game 100%. All they do is let you have uber-braging rights.

Sometimes epic achievements may grant you 10% off your next purchase on steam.

A man can only hope :)

It gives the new players reason not to snipe all day, and try all the classes, help defending in the maps that give you that achievement, etc.

TF2 has stats? GOOD!

I've been hoping for a way of seeing how I rank compared to other players for a particular game, but TFC didn't have such a thing - I had to resort to taking endless pics of my scores at the end of games, to prove I or my team had won, whenever we did.

82%..my E-penis is pwning you!!!

Seriously though I've quite enjoyed playing some of the maps aiming for the achievements. Managed to get the Impenetrable Defense on Dustbowl with a full 24 man server the other day and there was a definite holler from the entire team as everyone knew they'd finally gotten that achievement done (which is one of the hardest for sure..so easy to lose the first control point in the dying seconds). Albeit that the achievements might nor last that long in terms of overall, they do provide players with a checklist of badges to collect, and there is always score for Further achievements to be added later on as new content is introduced. They also provide team members with something to collectively aim for initially.

Achievements are just a goal to work toward. And the stats just set a standard for your personal best. So then you know what to aim for and improve! :p
Simple.

Same thing with CSS stats that some servers use and host on a website.

As someone who has completed all the achievements, I can tell you my E-penis is humongous thanks to TF2. Now I won't get stagefright when I bone Lara Croft leopard skin in Second Life!

Thanks, Valve! You're the shiznits! :D

What is the point of living then?

Achievements ARE life! D: D:
D:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Achievements are a way of guiding a player through different areas of the content. So many people would never touch an engineer if there wasn't some kind of goalpoint involved with the class (ie. getting 10 sentry kills). Having then acquired experience about the engineer class, he may like it more than his previous one, or he may be wisened to some of the functions and tricks that are available to such classes. In the end, his sum total knowledge of the game's interweaved class mechanics is increased., resulting in a more informed and ultimately capable player.

Plus, they're just fun. Who doesn't like a little ego boost every now and then? It's good for bragging rights too.

Don't forget, there sure to be tournaments of TF2. Your stats could be standards to sign in to different levels accordingly to your skills level (Sounds like fun).

I'm sure we will hear a lot more about the Stats and Achievements systems. For now they are just fun, feeling that by the end of the day you have a record of achievements to be proud of.

All of them are doable, except "With Friends Like These"

I don't have any friend :(

theres nothing like being on a killing spree, getting an acheivment, saying "ZOMGS AMMA PWNING U N008Z!!!" and then recieving a rocket or two to the face.
ther just NICE.
