There aren't any civilians...where'd they all go? It is true Gordon wakes up and he doesn't know how long it has been. Wouldn't there be traces of civilians or did the Combine do a great job at mind-controlling everyone?

I just was thinking about that. If it's been said, don't blame me, I can't search for "no civilians" because the stupid fricking search sucks.

how do you know that there are no civilians.

I suppose in the war in some towns, 1000s roamed the city's didn't they? No they were in shelters or had been captured and put in war camps, I guess its the same here, people hiding from the Combine but rebels (gordon or something) trying to get rid of them :rolling:

Maybe the combine have brainwashed all the civilians into being combine soldiers?

According to Gabe Newell Gordon wakes up and is confused because there was a jump of time from one incident(black mesa) to where he is now.

Exactly, the civilians are probably the conscript Combine.

If you're in the middle of a war, it's not a good idea take a morning walk

if your making a super high-poly game, then its not a good idea to have hundreds of almost self-thinking NPC's running about the place....

I don't know about you guys, but if striders started walkin through my town i wouldn't stick around too long. Im not going to head down to the store and stroll past the neighborhood strider. That just doesn't sound like a good idea. Most ppl would probably be like, "OMG WTF IS THAT!" ... grab their s**t and get outa that place. That or they would bend over and kiss their *** good-bye.

The fight has been going on for what would seem like a long time as there is a combine tower in place. There has been plenty of time for people to get out of the city. You could also consider any zombies you fight in the game to be civilians as they are humans with headcrabs stuck to them. Thats were a lot of the civilians are at that point.

if all the civilians are dead?
(of course not all are dead)
cuz if the combines are making more soldiers whit the civilians, they will combining the civilians whit alien DNA right?

but
waht wrong whit the rest of the world?
(DEAD,DEAD,DEAD,and more DEAD)

I think the combine are human. They have hair in the concept art.

We don't know if that is where the combine soldiers come from <RJMC>. We haven't actually seen much, if anything of the outside world.

alien-humans could easily have hair
Not in HL2. Also, The features, like body biuld and shit also have to do with them being human.

Because HL2 isn't Star Wars there are no Bothans. Unless you want hairy aliens... Anyway there was not one hairy alien in HL1. I doubt there will be one in HL2, except for maybe the G-Man. If there is, I'll buy ya' a beer.

Well, if, as the guy said, they are human-alien hybrids, they could very well have hair.

Now you're saying that the original Combines are like the Star Trek's Borgs? Capture a human and transform into a Combine? Got the idea? Seems weirdo to me....

Did anyone ever think that the purpose of the Combine soldier's helmets is to protect their heads from the headcrabs? Think about it... you wear a think helmet that covers your whole head and put a little vent on the front for oxygen and bingo... head protection.

I remember thinking to myself "man I wonder how a headcrab would zombify one of those soldiers with the helment in the way and all". I personally think the combine soldiers are just humans that have been taken over by some new race of alien (maybe even the race-x aliens, since if you ask me, they seemed to be more along the lines of "invaders" than the xen were). The alien-human hybrid idea I still take into consideration though, since looking at the prowler on the enemies page, he looks human somewhat but by looking at his hands and posture you can tell he definitely isn't.

if every combine soldier is a clon of one soldier?
cuz if they had the cience tho combine huaman DNA whit alien DNA,why not clon one same combine,is more easy
but one question
what "aliens things" hav the combine?
they looks like simple humans whit a combat suit and gask mask
even they act like normals humans
maybe something inside theyr body,in they organs or something like that
the only combine who looks more alien is the prowler(look his hand and arms, a human is not like that)
the posture of the prowler is maybe cuz he atack whit his hand or another meele atack, its look like a combine ninja

Think of the Go'uld from stargate, some of the human are controlled by them strange worm creatures (forgot their name). what if this is the same principle, only on a much larger scale.

i would assume most of the woman and children were either evacuated to secret shelters or captured. and most men are soldiers you see fighting along side Gordon. also wasn't Alyx just a child back during Black Mesa? so it should give you some kind of indication of how far into the future Gordon traveled. thats alot of years the war has been going on, and alot of time to get people evacuated or hid.

Is anything from the expansions going to be included in HL2? I don't think either of the expansions were made by Valve...

1 point off topic DEATH eVADER wtf the Go'uld ARE the worms inside the head.

Now back to the topic,That citidal is pretty big,my money's on the Civilians being rounded up and taken there to
A:Be used as a source of Cheap labour as a citidal supposedly eating away at a city is gonna need workers to clear gas mains and stuff that an Alien would know about.
B:Used as a source of Cheap food for the Combine troops and Aliens.U know grinded into a paste to be fed.(How many gallons of Paste to the KM for the Striders to move i wonder?)
C:Genetically modified to be troops and what not.(As Death eVadar pointed out a possible symbiotic/parasitic relationship maybe)
D:As above with A and B combined to be used to oil up the citidal as it moves.
E:Transported back to whatever home planet for possible uses like above.

Ill probly think of more and if it is the case there isnt an endless number of possibilities so we are bound to hit on the right one eventually

That kind of reminds me of Questionable ethics for some reason, there was some weird stuff in that level.

Maybe the combine are an actual police force, and the resistance think that the combine brought the aliens so they are fighting back, but in the end they are fighting the wrong people

I think he's right about the police force, heavily armed police force that is; but that is kinda already assumed...
Atleast by me it is...

Maybe the combine soldiers have nothing to do with the citadel, maybe they are trying to contain and destroy the citadel. They evacuated the whole city before it could grow for everyone to see, but the few who stayed found out about the secret. The Combine soldiers didn't wan't any leak of secrecy so they silence anybody who discovered the citadel, including Gordon, who just so happens has the same mission as the combine, which is to destroy the citadel.

Not once do you see a strider and a combine soldier together, the Alien gunship might just be a technological surveillance craft, and on the "Kliener Lab", the scanners might of been monitoring the strider but stumbled across the Labs. Any spoilers to spoil my moment in time

Striders have a combine symbol on them and so do the combine soldiers, but the manhacks and scanners don't...

So the possibility that we may have, not just a three way battle, but maybe four or five different organisations. Its just like underworld

We barely saw the strider at all, what do you mean "not once" Well, Foxtrot pretty much cleared it up, but there is barely any room to put a symbol on manhacks or scanners. I assume there are 3 parties, the rebels, the combine, and the aliens.

Let's just keep it simple. :)

I dunno, but I have some speculation of Alien Slaves and Humans being crossed together to make the Combine. I remember hearing this somewhere, I don't know if it's a very good source, but Alien Slaves speak English and they stand with better posture.. But there's ALSO speculation of the death sounds of the Combine.. remember in the (is it traptown? Im not sure :P) video it sounded just like the slaves..

I remember hearing somewhere that it sounds like a radio.

if the combines are a police group?

maybe yes
cuz some combine(in artwork and screenshots) and striders hav a sign who say "metrocop"

Its the sound of a HEV (or the equivalent) going off line (flat lining)

When you died in HL you hear it.

We discussed this when the video came out on Steam, I think everyone (around that time of hl2.net anyway) decided the combine soldiers had a type of HEV suit which was making the beep when they died.
