Although I agree on the translation, I dont really agree on the meaning :p

That dude is "1337" - he's got "m4d h4x0r1ng sk1llz" that's how he "0wnz0r3d" <insert high profile victim's name>

Most of the time though, 1337 refers to leetspeak, annoying examples of which can be seen in double quotation marks in the above paragraph.

Okay here's a snippet of the patented CrazyHarij Ultimate Hyper1337 Guide To All The Internet Words You'll Ever Need:

1337= If you don't know what this means, you probably are the wrong reader.

H4xx0r= Hacker, mostly means cheater in online games , i.e Counter-Strike.

OMG= Oh My God , same meaning as in normal life. You can also say OMFG(Oh My ****ing God), if you're an underaged boy who needs attention.

WTF= What The ****= Same meaning as in normal life, often after something very bad has happened , like you suddenly lose an important item in an MMORPG(i.e Everquest, Anarchy Online) or get killed in an online game(i.e CS)

LOL= Laughing Out Loud= Originated in IRC chat, an expression you make for showing people you think something said above is funny , or your'e laughing , simply.

LMAO= Laughing My Ass Off = An alternative to LOL, but in a more powerful way.

ROFL= Rolling on floor laughing= Another alternative to above. You can use these three to make Powerful Combo's , I.E ROFLMAOLOL , or LMAOL, or ROFLOL , etc etc.

Suxx0r= Sucks= An expression of making everyone know you think something is very bad.

n00b/nubi/n3wb13/etc = Newbie, pointing to someone who is new to the other vet's. Used in a negative way.

IMO= In My Opinion/ IMHO= In my Honest opinion = used to show people this is your opinion, followed by a long textdump.

Damn them trials :flame: ;)

I always thought that IMHO was "In My Humble Opinion". And that's the way I've been using it. Silly ol' me.:E

And why does "xx" = "ck", "cks" or "cker"?

No! Must stop...

Must not pollute forums!

|337 speak is so useless. Its harder to type than bad english with acronyms thrown in everywhere and its harder for people to understand.

hahahahhaha!

Talk about a misunderstood word :D

Thats not being a hacker... thats just lame... lame as script kiddies.

Hacker: That strange creature that is the cause of 90% of all divot clusters on popular golf courses.

What do you mean , Majestic? Then what is a h4xx0r?

1337 is dirty speak for those that hang around in the black code IRC channel and attempt to do DOS attacks on microsoft.

Hacker used to mean someone who could write out code...of course that changed...

I remember when i first started seeing "leet" speak around. The first word i saw was actually w00t and i had no idea what it meant. I tried translating it until finnaly i realised...woot. Anyway, i saw 1337 and that had me baffled for a while but i eventually figured out the pattern/

Its all a load of..poo anyway.
