The numeric keypad isn't mine, but I have one similar. I have the exact same mouse though (I love it).

The keypad sits to the left of my regular keyboard, the mouse is on the right. Since the gravity gun is bound to the plus key on the numeric keypad, that leaves ten weapons left - they are bound to the 0-9 keys on the regular keypad. I usually just scroll through the weapons, though, unless I'm deathmatching.

Up/down/left/right is 8/2/4/6 of course.

I like this setup because the numeric keypad has just enough keys all arranged close together, and I never could get the hang of using WASD like the default settings for movement.

What do you guys use?

Default, if for no other reason that I can jump on someone else's computer and still kick ass without spending 15 minutes fiddling with the controls.

WASD still seems to be the most intuitive for me anyway; most of the keyboard is within reach of the left hand, unlike people who use arrow keys or whatever. Even with a numpad, you still only have 17 keys at your disposal. Within easy reach of my left hand, I have 27 with WASD.

Default, except crouch is C not Ctrl for me.

I use the Wolf King keyboard, so it's obvious why.

HL defaults are king. I've shaped the way I play FP games around HL's controls - Crouch always has to be ctrl, Use is E, etc. Works great. And weapons changes are set to 'Fast Weapon Switch'.

I prefer having all controls on the left side of my keyboard so that i can use the controls on my mouse with the other hand, like most people! :)

I remember the good old days of arrow keys, Ctrl to fire, Alt to strafe, caps lock to always run...then Quake came out and I was like "WTF WASD?! GAY!"

Now I could never do anything but wasd.

I actually used to use arrow keys for like everything when I had a regular keyboard, and based ALL of my controls around it. Dunno what changed everything but it might have been this keyboard.

Default.
I don't get how people use C for crouch...

Indeed. How do you strafe right and crouch at the same time then?

Default for me, in Half-life at least. No fats weapon switch, though. I'm a sucker for punishment. ;)

Alright, since I'm a lefty and you don't see a config like mine much I'll throw in a pic.

Fast weapons enabled. I didn't add the mouse because there is really nothing different about it.

Mine is pretty much default. I belive the original half life's crouch was C so its what I've been used to. Now im getting used to using Ctrl again because i started playing BF2142 and for some reason it wouldnt let me change the key board config. Im pretty ok with both. But I pretty much base most of my games around the default HL1 setting, or at least i used to, I've gotten tired of changing the controls for ever game, i now just glance at the config screen and just try to memorize the keys.

Then you're blind.
Maybe I am blind but I use my pinky for CTRL and Shift, my ring finger on A, my middle finger on W, my index finger on D and my thumb on the space bar. If I would use C for crouching (using my index finger obviously), how would I crouch/strafe right forward then?
Or is that a move you just sacrifice for having Crouch on C?

Arrow keys for movement, since I am left-handed and WASD is hell for me.
Enter instead of the E key.
RShift and RCtrl for run and crouch.
Well, I remap the left side commands of the keyboard to the right.

And you, input device manufacturers, remember of left-handed people! :)

Default - with the exception of my Mouse4 button being bound to enable voice chat.

As a former Quake2/ActionQuake2 player, I'll tell you.

If you have C bound to crouch, you move your index finger down to C, and keep the middle finger on W. If you need to strafe right, then you move your middle finger to D, and move your ring finger to W.

It takes some getting used to, but then again, so did holding down the Ctrl key forever in HL1 with my pinky when I first played that. I remember having hand cramps back in the day because of that.

Now, speaking of AQ2, there was a control scheme that has not survived... this was the predecessor to CS (even made by some of the same guys), and this was the basic control layout:
w,a,s,d - movement
space - jump
c - crouch
ctrl - weapon mode (zoom, auto/semi, etc)
q - primary weapon
1 - pistol
2 - akimbo pistols
3 - knife
r - "sniper" (weapon mode, plus changes sensitivity)
mouse2 - reload

Now THAT takes some getting used to if you've been playing CS for a few years... :)

A mild variant of the WASD -> SAXD. The other bindings are set such that those that need to be used while moving are available with the little finger so movement isn't otherwise impeded. I hate using the middle mouse button for anything because it may roll when I press it down if I'm not careful, and I'll wind up with the wrong weapon at the wrong time.

Strafe forward right? You mean move right and forward at a diagonal? If so, W+D...

usually default,

C is crouch for me, i usually keep pressing the windows button if its ctrl

:) I know how to move diagonaly, but like Chabo said, when you want to do that while crouching and you have crouching on C you have to move your ring finger to W. I've had no problems using my pinky to run/crouch so far so I'll stick to the default layout.

Do do that while crouching...

middle - W
pointer - D
thumb - C

Am I the only one who uses SHIFT to crouch? I find it much more comfortable than ctrl (let alone c). Ctrl to spint (or walk if there's no sprint function), alt to walk. The rest is pretty much default.

Arrows - Movement
Ctrl - Crouch
Shift - Jump
End - Use
Del - Reload
Num 0 - Flashlight
Num 2 - Sprint

Been using this setup for years, in any game.
