For example, tropical such as in far cry, etc..

I for some reason love the arctic atmosphere in a game. Such as the levels in halo where it is snowy outside.

All of my half lfie and cs maps have been snow based..kinda like a weird fetish..lol :naughty:

I love city and building maps, which is one reason why Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 are on the top of my most wanted list.

I couldn't agree more. Snow is cool.

I particularly like outdoor (winter-style) areas set at night. Anyone remember the Syberia level from Goldeneye? Very atmospheric.

Doom 3 won't have city maps.

By building I mean inside them. Doom 3 takes place inside a research complex on Mars, so yeah.

I remember is canadian...Goldeneye was such a great game...I hope that goldeneye 2 is complete shit

Isn't EA making Goldeneye 2? If so, then shit is what it will be.

i dunno, their latest bond game was actually very good, much better than nightfire and agent under fire (...i can't think of the name of their latest one)

Edit: Everything or Nothing

Everything EA touches will be forever tainted. It's destiny.

Nothing cuts like the truth. EA has had a pretty bad track record with FPS games. They just had to go and put car racing into a bond game, and I haven't forgiven them since.

I like playing in rainy atmospheres, especially on next-gen engines.

I heard the latest Bond game was good, but I personally liked Nightfire
Goldeneye 2's concept sounds horrible, and it'll probably suck.. but here's to hoping it won't suck

ANYHOW! I'd have to say a gritty atmosphere that is semi-realistic like HL2 would be my favorite.. although, I haven't played a ton of games that fall in that category

Metroid Prime rain was excellent. The beading looked terrific, as did the fogging. I was also impressed by the reflection of Samus' face when an explosion occured next to her.

I think most of the graphical bells and whistles were awesome in Prime.. the one that let me down though, was seeing Samus' reflection in those occasional orb-shaped objects embedded in the walls. Looked awful

Metroid Prime...oohhh Metroid Prime...if you were only released on the Xbox or PC I'd love you so much more.
*Damn 'Gay'Cube!*

The GameCube is what, $80-100? That's completely reasonable for an entire console :)

I have all three consoles, so would that make me leet? There's no harm in getting a gamecube, as the only reason I have it is for the nintendo exclusive games. N64 was an awesome system, so why does everyone have to bash the gamecube? Like it or not, Nintendo made games what they are today - highly enjoyable and long lasting. (at least some of the better ones) I still play games like Faxandu and Paperboy to this day.

Paperboy is just great. I only have a Sega version on my Master System, but yeah..

I have both GC and PS2, but no XBox. :)

I like playing in run down places that look gritty, like downtown areas, and buildings, I also love indoor space areas.

Hey, user name you can shut the hell up.. The GCN kicks the crap out of xbox and ps2

Like sedako, i have all three too, my favorites are in this order..
1)gcn (pc)
2)ps2
3)xbox

Whether it's $100 or $20, getting a GameCube is not on my agenda for the near future. Sorry, but I'll stick with my Far Cry, Doom III, and Half-Life 2 for PC; and Halo 2, Chronicles of Riddick, and Full Spectrum Warrior for Xbox. I find the GameCubes' titles a little too childish for me and there aren't too many Mature and violent games for it anyway, but there are a few exceptions: Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, and Eternal Darkness. I did once own a Game Boy Advance, but later traded it in for store credit after lack of any good games at that time. If I ever do buy a Nintendo product again, it might be the Nintendo DS...oh wait...that's right, the PSP has my vote.

Just because games can be childish doesnt mean they arent fun, take pikmin for example, I love it.

It's stuff like this that's going to bring about WW3. I don't see why people have to bash the systems they don't own. Games are there for everyone, and each systems provides for each person's preferences. If you want Graphics, go with Xbox. For quality, time honored games, Gamecube is your system. Finally, for a vast library of games, PS2 kicks ass. There is no need to bash other systems because the games they have are not to your liking. You should just be happy with what you do have. It seems like people are jealous when a great game comes out for a system they don't own. Then they're always like "that system sucks, mine is better because (insert meaningless rabble here)."

That's true, but everyone has their own taste in games...and I, for one, don't find that the GameCube delivers games all that well (especially the mature better ones). I am not bashing the GameCube in any way, but I do find that the GameCube has not done very well in the games department...and most notably...online connectivity.

I AM NOT BASHING THE SYSTEM! I am rather just basking in the beauty of the Xbox and PC, per se.

I know you didn't bash, but i'm just tired of everyone fighting over systems.. it gets kinda frustrating after a while.

I love dark, neon-filled huge futuristic cities with flying vehicles and old robots and rusty stuff and the city should have a general blue/green ambient fog/color.. And I like post-apocalyptic stuff with hi-tech robots and soldiers and stuff in areas scourged by past wars, small rusty towns.. I want it to be accompanied with mellow and ambient music, futuristic digital sounds and stuff.

I also love snowy postapocalyptic futuristic landscapes, and huge green lush areas with white futuristic old concretey buildings.

The first thing I've only seen a small taste of in the Nar Shaddaa levels in the Jedi Knight games.. I've seen the second thing in Ground Control 2 and Anarchy Online.. I've only seen the third thing being captured perfectly in the tundra levels in Tiberian Sun... I wish more games had these kind of atmospheres and themes..

Here are some paintings and drawings by artists that have images with these sort of atmospheres..

Sort of.. :)

Beach-tropical areas. Not exactly like Farcry...think more along the lines of that Halo2 pc map, i can't remember the name but people often take the tank into the ocean and camp for banshees there. Anyway, i love that kinda area. I think the Half life 2 coastal area will be awesome.

Somthing like Half-Life 2(or 1984), with the oppressive government and a little bit of mystery. That or a snowy enviorment...with lots of snow covered pine trees like in DAOC :)

heh not bashing?

The environment in Freedom Fighters pleased me.

The way New York was progressively more destroyed as you played on and on.

On the last mission from Governor's Island, look at the skyscrapers in the skybox graphic. They're all smoldering, compared to how everything was when you started right after the Soviet invasion.

:naughty: I like lots, from WWII all out action to settle-scary setting like Resident Evil

System Shock 2, best atmosphere in a game EVER.
Its just awesome listening to people become warped under the power of the many

Looking Glass were the Ultra Supreme Gods of The Universe at creating an unbelievably awesome atmosphere within games. Thief The Dark Project and System Shock 2 were just fantastic, awesome. I cannot stress how well they did it with these 2 titles.

I love the atmosphere of the Thief games (all three). It's a strange mix of medieval reality, and weird fantasy, with a sprinkle of steam punk technology thrown in for good measure. No other game can deliver quite the variety in atmosphere (I'm thinking of Thief III in particular just because it has something for everyone). I also really enjoy the atmosphere found in Silent Hill. I love the surreal environments, the cryptic story and characters, and the mystery surrounding the town. It's simply a fantastic creation.

As for a generic environment....I enjoy playing around in places I'm not supposed to. For example, in Thief, I find myself enjoying the bits of a mission that are totally unrelated to the main goal even more than the main branch of the mission itself. There is nothing quite like stumbling across an open window tucked away in a quiet little corner off of the main path while making your way to the objective. I had so many experiences like that; stumbling across an open window, or sky-light while making my way from rooftop to rooftop was a real treat. It felt like I was really a Thief, and that I had found a little secret that perhaps no one else had. So many memories, and so much fun....

I like environments that are creepy, without being excessively dark.
Also, tons of details and realism is always a plus.

City 17 is make me happy!

Yeah, it just seems to give this neverending image of oppression.

Agreed. A Danish super game ;)

Anyway, rain and thunder is the way. Like the level (2. or 3.?) in Unreal 2, in the forest, and just the sound is so relaxing.

This maybe because I love rain and thunder in real life.
