Im planing on takeing it apart and finding out what makes it tick! No, more seriously. Number 1-That will mean half-life 2 and the benchmark should be soon after. Number 2 I plan on trying to make a movie with the half life 2 engine. Number 3- They will hopefully include the alyx model so that we can learn quickly how to do facial expressions.... You know... a star trek mod of the new enterprise series would be awsome... Imagine... Depaul... LOL

i think he is meaning the SDK "hopefully include the alyx model" ??? i dunno :S

This is gonna be a REALLY cool thread to watch in the next couple of minutes...

Edit:awwwww...they changed it so soon.

lol true true... ill be keeping an eye on it :D

Changed thread title to avoid confusion.

i just change it also, i missed that. I had just been reading about the ECG or ECM picture and they were all talking about the sdk and the beta :x sorry about the confusion.

When I first get it, I plan to learn how to use all the features (creating terrain, objects, cameras, using scripting, special effects, text on screen/hud, etc. etc. etc.).. then get to work on a mod!

Alyx wears a red thong...

One can only wish man. I just cant wait ti get a shot at makeing a movie with it, the graphics are becomeing so realistic.... Companys might start useing halflife 2 to make their houses to show off to people...

Imagine a police station mod, kinda like a mixture of jail brake and counter strike... the cops are sitting their doing what ever and buba and his boys come to brake out his friend... with the new engine and stuff... you could really have a mapper make what ever they want...

Its just a idea to toss out their since i dont know c++ im pretty good with 3dsmax wich wont help for half life 2 since they use soft image } : ) but its free :)

Was Softimage|XSI EXP in the second or first phase of the SDK release?

I thought XSI was a custom built modelling and texturing tool developed by SOFTIMAGE. Man, have you seen their list of projects done in the past. GAMES, MOVIES, COMMERCIALS

I'm going to have a play with VGUI2, see what it can do. It's one of the new things Valve has which drives me nuts when it comes to the possible applications of such a thing.

1) It can be used to render UI in the Steam-version HL1 engine.
2) It can be used to render UI in HL2
3) It can be rendered in-game on 3D objects in HL2.
4) It can be used to make applications on the desktop.

It's a brilliant, tremendously versatile thing. I bet that VGUI2 will also be able to plug into the HL2 entity I/O system easily, allowing for entities in-game to be controlled by another VGUI2 panel on another 3D object. The possbilities are endless and staggering. Imagine, a second-generation Admin-mod or AMX-type application implemented using VGUI2.

Or having mods which instead of a conventional options menu, load straight into a map, with the options dialogues, server browser etc. drawn onto walls.

I wondered what the heck you were talking about for a moment there, obsidian...

I bet this same post will come up again this time next year

At e3 well see some more HEAVILY SCRIPTED DEMOS - followed by all this again

Two quick and simple question, what can you do with the Half_Life 2 SDK?

Dont the leak beta contains that SDK?

Make static models, Make characters, make weapons, apply textures, apply textures on normal maps, apply normal maps on characters, Use FACE POSER, look at ALYX naked (you pixel perv!).

Basically all the tools that valve used to create HL2 will be in the SDK, I think. Plus the SDK is incorporated with the Hammer editor, to make it easier to import information directly to your game, I'm not sure how the A.I. coding will be handled.
