When should the Alyx expansion take place?

So I'm sure we've all heard about the expansion by now, but don't know where in the timeline it happens. So my question is, what period are you most interested in going through with with Alyx?

edit: I meant to put a poll with this, but hell, hopefully it can still make a good discussion.

So, me personally, I would like to see what happens when before Freeman comes back, fill in some of the backstory. I want to see what happens after the Citadel collapses through Gordon's eyes.

Hmmm...if we HAVE to ...*ick* then I guess after the explosion. That would be the most feasable at least. If not that, then before Freeman came along. I mean, you just CANT see Gordon Freeman.... You saw him in OP4 for a second, and couldn't shoot him :( but anyway, before gordon, or after Citidel, those would be the best
 
I bet they'll try to use the time between BME and Nova Prospect. I hope they'll take the time after the explosion, though.
 
I just hope we get to see the 7 hours war in full action, that would kick ass!!!
 
I think it would be cool to include creamtors in the expansion. Maybe how Alyx got that head. Fighting a cremator with her gun would be kick ass!
 
"Before HL2". We can't meet Freeman, so "during HL2" is out, especially as Alyx meets up with Gordon too often to simply fill in the gaps with an entire expansion. "After HL2" is out simply because it's just plain stupid: Destruction (or otherwise) of the Citadel is a massive climax, as is "Alyx's life in the balance." Why throw away the opportunity toi show what happens after the end of HL2 to a mere expansion pack? That's Sequel material.

"Before HL2" Should be anytime after Combine occupation and anytime before Freeman returns... actually, that's a case of "most likely to be", because Valve will want to reuse the European art-assets, and the Science team most likely arrived in Europe after the combine invasion (to keep an eye on Breen?)

the combine invasion and 7 hour war started soon after the end of hl1, when alyx was still a kid didnt it ?, therefore i dont think we will get to see it, unless alyx was shooting combine at like 10 yrs old or whatever
 
I doubt they will do the same timeline as HL2 I would expect it to be a prequil leading up to the first meeting with gordon on the rooftop. Or maybe a prequil before that!

Dont underestimate kids, ever watch Home Alone? Yeah, kid rocks!! :p Anyhow, I dont think it happened right after HL1, more like a few years gap, prolly, so maybe she's 16 or somethin' :p

That would be cool but I seriously doubt that the US could stomach a game where you're a 7-9 little girl shooting aliens with machineguns.
 
Its obviously before, i mean, we would get the grav gun, because like she says its handy for clearing mine fields. And there's all sorts of other twists valve could take.

Theres a o% its during half life 2.
 
lol, it can't be during half life 2. Imagine going into doctor kleiners lab and he looks at you and says YES you are right alyx, after you hadnt said anything. And gordon can't talk either. So now we have two characters that have a speach dissability. Valve covered it up nicely with gordon.. .but this would just look stupid. It can't be after hl2, how do we know alyx is still alive?... I don't see how she could have survived that explosion. Unless it teleported them off somewhere else because it was a teleporter explosion. Other than that I doubt it. ALl your friends are dead again, just like in black mesa (with the exception of those select few barney etc.

You could be right, maybe alyx was going to a public school before everything happened, like in the simpsons.

Hmm... in a few months or so... the expansion we have been waiting before will finally come. cool.

I'm curious as to how the damage system will work.

Gordon has the HEV suit to protect him. Barney and Adrien had body armor; but Alyx only has a spring jacket.

I guess she could be testing the Mark 5 HEV suit before Gordon's arrival?
 
Considering that Gabe said (Where? No clue, but I tend to remember that sort of thing) that he was interested in Alyx's backstory, this will definitly be before HL2. Personally, I would prefer playing as DOG than being Alyx. Not only is he awesome, he doesn't talk and therefore fulfills the "you are blah" thing.
 
I think playing as Alyx would be an interesting dynamic in the HL2 universe though. I mean, for one, her story most likely wont be 'HL3', so it doesn't really have to abide by those kinda 'rules'. Secondly, Valve can really do whatever they want with their series, and if that means somewhere down the line Gordon will talk to others or reach up to fix his glasses, then that's going to happen. Finally, it'd be super cool if they -did- do an Alyx game, she did speak through out it, and they added a few cool Metroid-Prime-ish gameplay dynamics to separate her game from just being an HL2 clone. IE, if you come up to specific spots or areas, it'll go third person for a second as Alyx climbs up a pole or hotwires a car to escape a Combine patrol ship. ;)
 
Dog? Nah, doesn't do it for me. I rather doubt that Valve will do anything for their characters that will be third person as they have never done so. It's not their style.
 
If it was/is during HL2, it should have cutscenes where it's third person looking at you, Kleiner, Barney, Gordon, and whoever.

However, I don't think it should be during HL2. It should be in Black Mesa and during the Portal Storms and war and stuff. :D

I think it would be before.
Any "new ground" plot-wise, should be covered by Dr. Freeman
 
I don't think I want to play Alyx... I rather play someone unknown, or better yet, SHEPHARD!
 
Shepard is the coolest character ever been played as in a Half Life game or expansion, There was nothing i liked more than Being after freeman all the time, and when i heard that Scientist saying "hurry freeman, i cant hold the portal up for much longer" i reloaded my weapon and started running, i shootlike 10 bullets at him but he didint die ( i was about 11 or something while playing that ) so i blamed myself for bad shooting. Now of course i realize that u have to miss for the story to fit together. I really hope we'll see Shepard in a future Expansion or Half Life game.

i think right after the explosion, Alex is knocked back and then blacks out and that's when the story of Alex begins. actually walking in her shoes from the moment she decided to join her father and the resistance. Then you find out what happened during Gordon's long sleep, about how the Combine came to power and such.

anyways, thats my idea.
 
I think I have to agree that Shepard is not who I want to know about. Sure, OP4 was fun, but who was the CHARACTER? A regular marine dude, who was admittedly good at what he did (good enough for the G-Man to become interested? Surely. But his PHYSICAL skills were equal to Gordon's, whom was much smarter. Ph.D. and all that), but his interactions which are the only way for you to know the character in a HL game were somewhat uninteresting. I think someone more central to the tenents would be more interesting, not just in extra story, but also in how you feel about the character you are supposed to be.
 
Shepard is gone for good im afraid, but maybe the gman will still feed him big macs in xen..!

Actually that would work out exceptionally well. As DOG you would have the manipulator abilities as well as being able to throw stuff around. Starting as a pup, following Alyx everywhere she goes. And every once in a while you would be shut down for a new part to be added on (hence becoming bigger and stronger as time goes on). This would also allow for "jumps" in time through the storyline and allows it to pass every few years or so.

The downside of course is that you wouldn't be able to use any weapons and you wouldn't have a health meter because DOG is too strong (maybe just a power thing like the HEV armor). Hmmm, I'm starting to have second thoughts now. People were complaining that the DARK ENERGY level got boring and has little replay value. An expansion where you play as DOG could suffer from the same thing.
