i wanna start an outdoor map , do i put on huge box , and make the top sky texture?

Nope, this is a bad idea.

unless its just temp, for testing purposes.

And give the sky texture a Skybox Material.

hmm i kinda do.

btw, this is not hl1, you can do that. just use func_ocluders because vis might not work properly

and + thats what you do in unreal :)

Do brushes block whats behind them if they are not func_detail'ed (just like quakes)?

Unreal's system is the complete opposite of Quake/Quake2/HL/HL2.

Regardless of occluders, building a level as a box is a bad idea. Build your level, top everything off with sky and put a lid on it. You'll save yourself a hell of a lot of time.

Roger that... I only use a box when the entire level is 'inside'. But it's still nice to have windows that show you the outside...

So now I'm pretty flippin' confused. If my outdoor map isn't in a big box, then what is it enclosed in??? I can't leave empty void up there... How do you make an outdoor level???

Presumably, you have some kind of natural barrier at the edges of your map. Place sky brushes on top of those up to your maximum sky height then put a sky lid on it.

Make a little box enclosing the outside of each window. Give it a sky texture. Ta-da!

Right. Take a look at de_cbble. It appears that the mapper just created the map, then put the skyboxes up later, making sure that there were no leaks. This way he was able to put the sky right where he wanted it, in some cases out further than a "box" map would put it.

Just make your buildings, make your landscape, etc. Put everything where you want it, then slap a skybox on to test. Then work with the skybox so that it isn't just a "lid", but actually adds to the map...
