When will Xbox 360s become widely available?

suicide42, it's been out like what, 3 weeks and you're already judging it about the games out ?

x360 has live, i've yet to hear something bad about this from reviews (from ign, gamespot and so on) and ps3 won't have any decent online capability, way to go sony.

about comparing x360 and ps3 is .. it's just plain stupid considering ps3 isn't out.

I remember now- Oblivion. That's the only other good game on the 360. PDZ, and Oblivion.

You're expecting a little much from a console launch. Pick any launch you like and take a look at the games that were available - each had a few good titles at best. The 360 is doing better than most.

(Cast your mind back to the PS2 - what a god awful selection of games that had at the start, yet it turned out ok)

Oblivion may also be coming to the pc - but my rig certainly won't be able to play it at decent settings and maintain a smooth framerate. It'd cost about 3 times the price of the 360 to upgrade to a comparable level, and I wouldn't be having all the fun I am now with games that aren't avalaible on the pc (which will be most of the games worth owning on the 360, or any other console)

It helps confirm that getting a 360 will be a good choice. I've read on other websites that it - for certain types of games, if programmed right, could out perform 2 top of the line cards. the top card is the 7800GTX now right?

Without a doubt the 360 will be a great choice, anything would be. Without a doubt when consoles are first release they rock Pc's. This is all with out a doubt and I could have told you this a long long time ago.
It's basically a cycle with every console generation.

Btw, Activision is a publisher. They do not make games(?). Infinity Ward was the one who made the port to Pc. They were also the creators of the game. Infinity Ward is the Developer. It was Raven(which Id look after to make sure no screw ups), who made Q4 and ported Q4.
So blame Raven for the crappy Q4 port.

Also CoD2 wasn't a "port" it was designed for both Xbox 360 and Pc in mind. Same with Oblivion. Far ahead they designed it's in-house engine to excel in both areas.

This is certainly true in terms of raw power. It's after a few years that the very best games tend to appear on most consoles, though. By now the pc starts to stretch ahead in visuals, but consoles really come into their own and deliver cracking games.

I love console launches - but the time i'm most looking forward to for the 360 is in about 1-2 years time.

I don't think when consoles are first released they rock PC's do they? It's just the 360 that does. by the time the PS3 comes out do you think a console with a 7800GTX type GPU will "rock" PC's? No, i think normally when consoles come out they are on par for the course. About the same.

Well Activision created games for like 10 years in the 80's .. i must have missed the info where they stoped creating and started publishing. I guess thats what companies do when they get too rich. Thats smart. Get paid for everyone elses work with much lower risks.

I'm aware that Id let Raven completely develop Q4 but I don't like quake anymore. Its like a silly version of Doom with nailguns, railguns, and exploding chunks of body parts. The reason quake was tight was becuase it had 3D enemies instead of sprites. it was an evolution of Doom. that was a long time ago and nothing has changed but the graphics eh? It doesn't even have a good multiplayer anymore so i hear. Its so lame Id doesn't even want to do anything with it anymore but milk the name i guess so they let Raven

Great, OK, so hopefully they do more of this, so everyone is happy. Its alwasy a shame when you go to get your anticipated game and you find out (either in a review or by wasting your money) that the version they release for your system is terrible.

Too bad activision didn't port Quake 4 also. I never really liked Activision much. theres only been a couple games they created themselves that i liked and ive been playing games created by them since the first console. Atari 2600 they had a game called Pitfall. Yea activision is high above average, but they just never did a perfect game yet IMO. their games are a little shallow or something and lack a lasting appeal. (except maybe pitfall - one of the standouts from the 2600) sounds like they finally hit their mark. They do very good ports. I remember they did Mortal Kombat II on SNES was the best port I had ever seen.

If Activision had nothing to do with it other than publishing it, well then I take back all the nice things i just said about them.

Just thought i'd mention, my PC sucks, I have a radeon 9800 pro, but I can even run Call of Duty 2 at 1280x1024 with all models and everything on high, with the only low setting being shadows set to "blob" shadows.

So the 7800gt is really that shitty? lol, damn, maybe I should stop thinking about "upgrading" to that card, if it'll be even worse.

I own a 7800GTX, and Call of Duty ran like a charm for me.
