where can i get a tank in vice city ?

I'm in the level where i have to save the black dude who is surrounded by tons of ennemies. I fly over the cities with helicopter but i still can't find a tank, so plz tell me where can get a tank ??

Easiest way to get a tank is install killerkips VC mod...goto the airport and the luggage carriers are mclaren F1 cars that ram anything and go uber fast. (the mod isnt actually stupid, just this one thing is, the cars in it are damn good)

i even went to the military base, there were only some military trucks and jeeps, but just no tank, where do they hide the tank ??

Well they didnt really have Mclaren F1 cars in the VC setting (1980's?) :bounce:

Anyway, if you want a nice full conversion mod for VC then i'd definately try this out (be sure to copy your entire VC folder before installing incase you want VC original back)

Easiest way I've found (without getting 90 packages)

1) Get 100% (or 150% if you do the missions) armour and health.

2) Get the sniper rifle and other guns.

3) Find an apartment with a second story walkway.

4) Start shooting everything until the army comes. Heres where it gets
interesting.

5) The tanks have an open window at the front. The tank drivers will try to run you down, but since your on the second floor, they cant. The police/FBI/army will come in waves. After you finish off a wave of everyone else, shoot the driver out of the tanks (with sniper rifle, M16 works better if your on a PC) starting with the closest one to you. This will open/unlock the doors.

6) Quickly run to the farthest tank and GO GO GO! Getting away before somone runs up and opens the door to arrest you takes a little luck but it is quite do-able.

7) Go to the car dealership on the second island (do the missions before so you own this).

8) Drive the tank into one of the "save car" bays.

9) Die.

10) Go back and retrieve your shiney new tank from the garage.


No, not the simplest way, but it will get you a tank.

What I did was get 6 stars and then hide in one of the pizza places. From there it's easy to shoot the drivers of the tank (and anyone else who's in your way). After you steal the tank drive it to one of your garages, then try and make it to a pay n' spray (or just drop dead, doesn't really matter).

The tanks not necessary on that mission though (or any mission). I just got a big car, rammed through the blockade, got out and shot everyone with an uzi.

i try many times with cars, trucks and even helicopter, nothing works, any of those vechicles will explode in 5 - 10 sec after entering the park, cuz there are too many fire power there.

well, i finally passed the mission.

i kill everyone with sniper then take the black guy to the hospital with helicopter

Fun suggestion for PC.
Go to the \Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\data folder and open the handling.cfg in notepad. (Save a copy before any changes)
Change (Y) fCollisionDamageMultiplier to 0 on the vehicle of your choice. I doubt you will explode now.

Other fun changes are:
(B) fMass - Mass of the vehicle. Want a car to have the mass of a bus or tank? Plow ahead.
(N) TransmissionData.fMaxVelocity - Max. Speed.
(O) TransmissionData.fEngineAcceleration - Acceleration of the Vehicle.
(R) fBrakeDeceleration - How quickly you can stop.
(I) nPercentSubmerged - How far the car submerges under water. Set to -1 if you frequently dive into the water. It will simply respawn you over land and you will not drown.

A friend of mine and I looked for a way to set the cars industructable in GTA3. We hunted and found that handling.cfg file and then tested the settings and we found a few more cool things. It's nice that they didn't change it for GTA:VC.

There are a few other fun settings but I would look them up to see exactly what they do and what may be a recommended setting.

hmm.. i just got six stars using the gattling gun and hopped in the tank when it first came.. parked it in my mansions garage.. no problems.. but i don't even like the damn thing..

I was under the impression that you cant hide once you get past 2 stars. I'm sure I've left it on over night with 3 stars and they were still on me when I got back.

simple way to get the attack helicoptor and vigilante missions for heli:

go into the VCPD HQ and get the poilicemens uniform. Then head over the military base and walk right in and steal the chopper. They wont shoot u cos they thing u are a cop
