I assume it would stand for "Govornment Man" but where did the actual term "G-Man" come up? Was it in the first HL? (i don't recall him ever being refered like that)? Was it the community comming up with a name for him? Or was it VALVe that talked about him before the game?

I think the community came up with it and then it stuck, or it was in the manual -- at e3 gabe refers to him as the G-Man

It was a popular term long before HL. I would imagine it originated sometime 1900-1950.

Means (God father Man).

any other Suggestions ?

There was a file in the Half Life folder called pak0.pak (not sure if it is in Steam) which contained all the audio files. He was in there as the "G-Man", so I suppose that is where he got his title from.

As in "Yo, G! What's up my man?" :afro:

Ive always known G-man stood for "Government Man", no documentaries, im the king!

When you see him at the beginning of HL with the scientist and in OP FOR at bootcamp in a window,

the G-man is in the field, collecting information, observing. He is probably just one of many in his agency. Having a lawyer role of giving terms and relaying between different groups (black mesa, army, his boss[es?])
