where is the integrity?

:flame: well, where is it? :flame:

I respected Valve when they came out of nowhere and produced this "game" that surpassed all expectations. Poor Activision and the buggy Sin (which is a great game once it's patched) had no idea the monster they were up against.

There was no partnership with ATI, there were no Dell representatives. All there was was a killer game that got released (deservedly) to critical accliam and was soon embraced by the gaming community as a whole.

Now...we have partnership with ATI, Dell is in the Mix. What happened to just putting out good software. Can the game not be promoted without ATI on it's banner? I believe when you start spreading yourself too thin, you are setting yourself up for a fall.

Overambitious? Steam...why do we need it? Why can't Valve just put out the game and let it sell like hotcakes. They don't need ATI's partnership to sell millions of copies...Dell doesn't need to be involved. Have Valve become a bunch of money grubbing whores?

Just think, if they would just focus on the damn game and not all this "extra" un-needed BS, then we would have it now.

I much prefer the hungry developer, to the multimedia giant. Quality is what is sacrificed and most definitely integrity. Blizzard never kissed ass and still puts out good games .

Why do you think they felt the need to have Steam and ATI and Dell in this? Greed, pure and simple. It's not enough to sell a great game, but everyone wants a piece. :bonce: :flame: :flame: :flame:

Love the post bro, but this has been covered a hundred times already.

yeah sorry

Just got incensed after reading about the Alacatraz event. I mean has there been a more blatant representation of vendor whoring than that?

Valve should be ashamed. :p

Yes.Its all about the $$$ :(.

But they have the opportunity of becoming even more rich with HL2 and they will take it. Hopefully when they grow as a company they will be able to make more games and more important... have respect to us and to release dates.

I hate Steam cause i'm an American an it made my game late...

but if I was Korean where the retail market is kinda well SUCK ASS ( I was stationed at Camp Hovey for 2 1/2 years) but broadband could bring me the game of the year... your damn skippy I would be all over Steam...but here in the land o' plenty it sucks cause my game of the year is late...

so sue me i'm a Libra

Well lets see first I do not believe Valve and Dell are together its ATI and Dell. Secondly HL2 had all the money provided from HL1. (I believe) So now maybe they want to "make" a little money. 3rd What is wrong with "partnerships", as long as they are done correctly its a win/win for the consumer. 4th. It is all about the Benjimans to an extent.

It's not all about the $$$.

Gabe is a multi-millionaire, he knows his product will be profitable. So why bother? If ATI gives them special techniques for use in HL2, like HDR, HL2 becomes a better game. If they have inside info from Dell to optimize HL2 on their systems, they'll use it.

This is the new millenium. We have products sponsoring movies sponsoring bands, stars, and more products. It all comes down to Valve not caring too much about their image, as HL2 will speak for them. If it means more money for little work with few problems, any business would do it. If they sponsor Dell or ATI, does that mean you have to buy those products? No.

Well of course Vavle is money whores. I care more about money than people and so do they. Valve sucks, half life owns.

atleast valve cares about the community unlike electronic arts which releases nothing but expansion packs and not released the sdk yet for battlefield 1942!

Funny you mentioned Blizzard when their last game (War 3) was delayed for three years. Just food for thought.

you forgot microsoft hl2 is now their gaming posterboy.

....... EVIL.

lol yes...at least valve isn't like EA..at all.

EA = "expansion-packs = allwedo"

bf1942 - 2 expansion packs
MoH - 2 expansion packs

neither get much mod support...lame

dont forget the sims which is like what 8 expansion packs!!!!

Valve's integrity will fade or shine based on mod support, if they don't distance themselves from the mod teams (which they won't considering a great mod will make them millions).

In the days before HL2 Valve was just like they are now, except the stakes are higher because its a commercial product, not a patch.

Remember powerplay? All it was was a corporate cluster****. Nobody bitched about Valve being corporate then...

In the end, the quality if HL2 will outshine any problems people see with Valve. People will complain, but people complain about everything.

uh huh

I think it's more about being overly ambitious. I mean how else can you account for Steam? There is something wrong with the way gamers currently play multi? Possibly charging for multiplayer content? That is not what made Half Life the phenomenon it is.

I just wanted the game. I could care less about ATI's new card. I can't afford to buy it anyway.

I mean...spend $500 and you can play the game as good as the demo. Are there really that many people will to shell out that much dough for a new video card? I mean I want to play this game, but I don't want to play it $500 much.

Oh well, at least Call of Duty has a solid date and I don't have to worry about Steam interfering with the multiplayer.

This game could have already been selling...now because of the useless, overambitious, bloated Steam...we all have to wait. :x

Just put out a good game. Screw Steam and ATI and their overpriced overhyped video cards. Unless you are Microsoft (X-box) it's not that attractive to be whoring vendors. The only reason I used Blizzard as an example is they have had plenty of "big" releases that didn't have any card manufacturer plastered all over the product.

I still think it's shameful. Some people will be turned off by this blatent ATI whoring. :flame:

Lol, I'm probably looking forward to CoD more now as it has a release date and I'm not holding my breath for a holiday release date for HL2 and anyone who does is a fool.

"fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".
