Where is the stutter patch?

steam automatically patches games...so when it arrives it'll arrive.

The people at valve would be like just getting to work now, assuming they started at 9.

I was about to start a thread about this, as i was expecting the patch today.

I tell you wot!! valve better be releasing the patch as a standalone download.

I dont have net at home, as i work on it all day at work... seems pointless paying through the nose for it.

I had to take my PC round to a mates house just to register the bloody game when it first came out.... If ive got to pack it all up again and take it round to a mates just to connect to the net, to download a patch which fixes a blatent oversight by valve... i will be angry.

I think i might send valve an invoice for my travel costs and handeling charges for me to pack up lift and transport my PC..... wonder how they'll like it!!

I do love HL2 though... but its cost me £220 so far, and a hell of alot of messing on!

btw it cost me £220 cos i bought a new GFX card just to make sure it ran smoothly without any "sttt..uuu..ttt..eerrs"...LOL....

anyone heard if its gonna be available as a standalone download??

Doubt it. That would just make it easier for crackers.

Can't say much fairer then the topic :)
Just heard from Erik Johnson that it may be tomorrow depending on what pops up during testing.

have any of the half-life/cs updates been released as a standalone patch? since being converted to steam i mean.

i seriously doubt that it'll be released by itself.

buy new ****ing sound cards, it solved my stutter/sound problem. theyre not that ****in expensive, 20 euros (less than 15 pounds) is all mine cost...

It was my understanding that a new sound card would not help the problem as its a code issue.

More to the point an issue with how the game loads textures or something.

So cursing at everyone about soundcards seems rather silly.

Get your head out of your arse. It's been said it has nothing to do with that. Consider yourself lucky that fixed your problem.

I'd imagine they'll just quietly point to the system requirements which clearly state that an internet connection is required.

Yeah. Steam is a necessary evil and has proven itself to be enormously successful for Valve.

Your travel costs are your own decision, it's just bad luck I guess but you could have just taken your Hard drive along surely... :S

Steam is a necessary evil only because Valve has made it necessary. It is evil in and of itself, by its very nature. In effect, we're being asked to hand the keys to our games over to someone else, and hope they'll come to unlock our stuff when we want to use it.

I have the stutter problem too, but only when the game freezes momentarily to go load something big on the fly. It shouldn't happen, but I can live with it. By and large, it all runs very well.

I have a Cretive Audigy 2, so I can pretty much guarantee you it's not an issue with just outmoded sound cards.

Valve usually releases updates through steam later in the day. It's still early, at least in Valve's time zone. Everything they do is on their time zone, not yours, wait till 7-9 pm Pacific then start whining.

This fixed it for me

I was stuttering and have a decent system I used this command (as suggested by WhyteWolfe) in the Steam start up of HL2:

-heapsize 512000 +cl_smooth 0 +sv_forcepreload 1 +cl_forcepreload 1 +snd_mixahead 0.4 -snd_async_fullyasync 1 -console

**note: Heapsize is half my RAM and should be half yours as well.

I played for hours last night without a single crash (they happened every 20 minutes - and no sound stutters) although I do get the level stutter (which are fine and they don't crash me).
