Hey,

I feel lucky that i've not experienced the leak, or any major or publicised delays. I joined in july 04 ish and everyone was expecting a 1st / 30th sept release (still expecting 30th now :D) and i've seen the new better detail binks, although i do regret not seeing the first ones when they were first released or any new news as it happened.

I can't actually remember how i found out there was even a HL2! lol that happened shortly before i joined, which embarrasses me when i see how long some people have been on these forums! 4000+ posts! :O

My question is, what experiences did you have around the time of joining these forums? :)

It was just after I hear that HL2 ACUTALLY existed. I got an insane thirst for anything HL2 so I googled for it. An insane amount of sites later I found this one, and registered.

I was hoping for HL2 at the end of the summer and I wanted to find everything about it and somehow I stumbled here. :)

A month or so after I learned of HL2, I did a search looking for as much info as I could find and it brought me to here, one way or another. I lurked about here for a few months before signing up.

In France on the PC Gamer Mag, It was one of those moments where you hart stop, and you can't believe what your eyes are seing.

I'd like to know how it was first introduced.

I remember that pic with the crowbar making a 2 shape with its own shadow. I think I crapped my pants roughly 12 consecutively in a 30 minute timeframe. It was something awesome.

I joined these forums last month because I figured "What the hell."

That was awesome! At that time I saw that on the DoD forums (me being an avid dod player at the time). I crapped my pants, couldn't belive it.

Then came the confirmation. A concept art pic of gordon afair. Twas so out of the blue... simply amazing.

well... it was 1 AM and i was browsing file planet for demos cause i was bored and this thing kept popping up "watch the E3 2003 video of HL2!1!" so i'm like "okay, why not? maybe i'll pick up the demo for HL1 while i'm at it" (i hadn't heard of HL before this) so i DL and watch it and i'm floored. i immediately DL and play HL1 demo and once again floored! in an attempt to access halflife2.com (assuming it was there) i typed in halflife2.net... and here i am :)

The first ever pic I saw of HL2 was this one

http://www.halflife2.net/image_files/screenshots/07.jpg

on megagames, all the nutters were arguing about it in the little message board thing with each article on the site "omg it's not in game, that is just a render/picture/art" and to be honest at the size it was at, it did look too good to be in a game.

Then I saw this pic http://www.halflife2.net/image_files/screenshots/10.jpg on someone's webspace (can't remember how I found it) and was blown away. I saw a link to this site (I either googled HL2 or it was on the megagames site) and the rest is history

I was looking for an active HL2 forum to discuss all things HL. I think i found it.

well around the time HL2 was first announced.. i was at the time playing through HL and after playing through the "on a rail" part i exited and was just surfing the net and all and came across the crowbar pic and i was like "omgomgomgomg!!!  "

so right there and then i decided to search for even more info and found this gem of a site and the rest is history ;)

well, when i figured out about hl2, i was thinking, every major game has some kind of links like diabloii.net, or callofduty.com or halflife.com, or planethalflife.com and stuff, so i thought, y not try halflife2.net? it might be a fan site with more pics! and here i am, that was last year

I don't really remember anything about when I joined or why.

But I will say I come here now for the political and other controversial discussions far more than I do for HL2.

found some half life 2 pics somewhere and though they didnt blow me away like everyone else, they looked decent. went looking for a forum and found this place.

some site i visited linked to a thread posted by Spitcodfry. it was about his visit to valve. was a pretty cool thread, but i couldn't view the attached images as i wasn't a member, so i thought, ahh feck it...why not.

i think it was a few days after i joined, the leak stuff started kicking off. fun :|

You joined in November 2003 ;)

I think I joined because I was tired of waiting for the damn game to be released...plus I was bored.

Heh i was at home, i acctually dont remember how i found these forums, but i did, then i joined after a while. I came on every day. and posted in The Arena. god bless it.

The first time I ever heard about HL2 was probably in march or something 2003.

I saw this pic on Actiontrip.com: http://members.home.nl/roelvdeerden/HL2 Shots/Cellblock 05.jpg

I just thought "meh, doesn't look that good".

The next time I got to know more about HL2 was in the June 2003 edition of swedish PCGamer. I was hooked, to say the least. I must've read that article like 100 times that summer. :D

Later that summer when the delay rumours started, I wanted to find a good hl2 forum.. I'm not really sure how I found HL2.net, probably googling for "half-life 2" or something back then. I registered and tried to convince everyone the leak was fake and that the game was going to be released at sept 30. :D

Aww, those were the days..

I honestly can't remember how I came here.

Really, it's the first internet community I've ever been part of :o

Oh, how many years... I was exactly where I am now - at home, in the dining room, in front of my PC. February, 2000. The site? This one...

Well, I got hooked onto half life by someone at school. Then, while trying to find a strategy guide to how to kill that DANG BLUE MONSTER (GRAHH, THAT THING IS ANNOYING) I stumbled accross planethalflife, which has a section for HL2. Then, I found a link to a site for a planned HL2 mod, and it looked really, really cool so I signed up.

http://www.forsaken-game.com/index.php

Its a really nice looking mod so far.

Anyway, someone on the forum mentioned this site, so I joined.

First pic: The Crowbar 2... Then I didn't think about it as much. Then I saw some screenshots.. And WHAT IN THE NAME OF GOOD ARE THEY SHOWING CONCEPT ART IMAGES? :O :O :O .. It was not concept art. it was in-game. Jebus.

So, cause I were a little cs-kiddie back then I went to #halflife2 on Quakenet, a smaaall small channel with around 25 people in it. I lefted it.. and then I joined. and stayed.

:)

 At first I didn't give a shit about Half Life 2. I saw it everywhere; magazines, internet ads, you know...I was like meh, first one was cool, wtf does the second one offer?(that's when I was a super n00b) All I cared about was the multiplayer games I currently played at the time, I didn't know shit about these techological advances in gaming. I guess one day I was bored, I decided to check out one of those e3 videos I was blown away, I did a site search, and I came across Hl2.net. I am very happy as well.

I joined waaaay back when....

Along Long time ago, before alot of ye wee nippers even new of our existance, but too far back...

....Oh those were the days, Random chat, a real forum then it twas with an Arena and everything...

;( yes i still miss it... God i'm sad :P

I saw news about HL2 scans on csnation and somehow i found hl2.net. Probably the easy address.

So I joined pretty early.

I saw Hl2 in a magasine..and decided it was time to find out more info. This is really the first forum I've properly been a part of. I saw the site, and the old design just looked so right :D

Tis okay, we shall weep together.
heh what would happen if another arena were to start? Farrow? Badger? come on, you know you want it, and it wants you, with all its /me commands that i dont think work anymore. yeah, yeah, then the decoy /me commands that were like
*The DemonWithin fools everyone

and other such things.

I got the news from Planet Half Life that HL2 existed in early May, having never been part of an internet community before I decided that if there was one game I could be interested in long enough to become a real community member it would be this one (I wanted to get into the modding scene). So I began looking around, first few sites I found only had around 30 members and are all dead now.

Eventually I found this one although I have no idea how I first heard about it, probably from Planet Half Life. Saw it had over 600 members and made my home here with a thread asking if anyone knew what was going to be in the SE edition of HL2. Its been my home on the internet ever since. :D

EDIT: And yes things have really changed now, I still have very good memories of the big Theory thread, the extremelly friendly atmosphere in General Discussion (aside from one troll name Thugenstein), and of course the Arena.

EDIT #2: I just realized I passed 3000 posts, w00t for me! :p

Haha....Thugenstein. He was funny to laugh at though. Not like the trolls nowadays ;(

That big theory thread was really something :) Shame about the leak, I think in many ways the spoiled the whole atmosphere around the game.

Yeah Thugenstein (or however he spelt it, sure he had some sort of leet character in it) and Valved Ray.....sure they had something going on behind the scenes ;)

Haha....Valved Ray. He was an odd chap if ever there was one.

So many things have changed ;( So many things...

The forums just aren't the same. I think the community spirit still exists, but its not one big group anymore. People in Off Topic for instance are largely seperate to the other groups. Even though, obviously they post in other areas.

Heh, remember the thread about capturing the weirdest image of Valved Ray on his webcam?

I get the feeling the forums will slowly start to turn back into something like what they used to be after the first month or two of HL2's release. When the first mods start comming in and most people here have played and beaten the game the mood will be much better than it is now.

I'm honestly jaded about HL2 right now. It seems like another game to me that I will buy. It's lost that "Greatest Game Ever" hype that I once had for it.

It's nice this site is large enough to have an active General Off-Topic Chat forum so when I get tired of HL2, I can come in here and relax a bit.

I think this site is large enough that it could probably become its own general gaming forum if it wanted too (as opposed to a HL2-centric site).

PS - I can't remember why I joined this site. I think I joined it because it was active and it had a decent color scheme. :O

When I joined I was like any other nub that joins, I wanted a release date and share my love of HL, I was kind to people and sucked alot of ass to get myself noticed. Now I really don't care.

 I was beginning to lose that hype for Half Life 2, until I played Doom III. Don't me wrong, Doom III is a good scary game, but when it comes down to it... we all know it aint that much except for cosmetics and some physics.

I used to lurk here since I first heard about Hl2 so I know about a lot of the stuff your talking about. Then I registered just to look at the pictures in the art section and then last June I decided I would start posting because this seemed to be a good community. But then everything went to hell in the Half-Life 2 section so now I just stay in the off-topic place.

Pfft, I don't know where I was! All I know is that IGN was all talkin' about the Valve-info thread so I came here and read that... then for some reason I kept coming back, so I signed up. And that's how you all got stuck with me. :O
