For two simple reasons, it loads very quickly, and If I want to search for something I just open a new window.

It has the google logo so i know what holiday it is
The google search bar and submit button
(I took off the Feeling Lucky thing and the text under that)
And i changed the links above the search bar to places i goto a lot

I used to have a custom homepage with links to my fave sites on it, but I don't need to bother with Firefox, I just have my ten or so favourites sites as a toolbar below the address bar.
