I was late to the party, I had to finish finals b4 buying the game. All I can say: I have no clue what the f*ck happend but it was pretty damn cool. My only gripe, no boss? Cmon valve. Now thats just bull.

That's the genius of the ending! It completely throws you for a loop, annhilates all gaming cliches, and leaves you breathless.
I expected a big escape sequence with a boss at the end after the citadel started to explode, but what I got was so much more satisfying.

I agree. I wanted to fight some kind of badass at the end. Without that, and the lack of other revilation in the Citadel, the ending came off as very abrupt.

Teh, well on the hardest setting those dropships went down in 2 hits each. DAMN THAT GUN WOULD BE COOL IN MULTIPLAYER. Pick people up and throw em that would b so cool.

towards the end I was like "please, no boss, no boss ... I don't want HL2 be like every other video game since 1985!"

I didn't even blow the gun ships, I just fired the blobby thingys into the middle and ignored the gunships :)

Still, it was way too easy, if there is no boss there has to be some other kind of difficult circumstance. Maybe you have to escape the Citadel with Alyx. That could have been a much better ending. Then again, I thought the Doom3 had a really lame ending too, the boss was way too easy... I like it rough. FarCry on realistic difficulty, that was a b*tch.

I actually liked how it had no boss, I was thinking of the boss while in Citadel and couldn't imagine one that would work well. I didn't want to fight Breen with him being an uber-warrior, and fighting something else would also seem strange at that point. Also, the no boss thing was pretty original, after all, very few games do that.

Great ending!

On hard setting fighting the Strider with just the manipulator was abit hairy but in the end i don't like bosses when all it does is get in the way of a great story. All i wanted to do was get to breen and let the revelations happen which umm sort of happened lol. One of the best endings ever because it leaves you gagging for more more more. I don't think i'll beable to stop thinking of HL3 until it arrives. God i am in for a big wait, think i might get a life or something to pass the time.

I finished the game today, also. Once the Cristmas break started, I was able to waste more time playing.

It's an amazing game, with far more polish than anything I've seen before (guess that extra year helped). The ending was great, but now I'm dismayed at so much being left in question.

You end the game not knowing what really happened to the world, and without ever actually seeing this new enemy in the flesh. You also have no idea what you actually managed to accomplish, besides taking out some generators and a wierd portal device.

It's going to suck waiting another five years to learn more about this story.

I havn't even completed the game yet, I find it quite boring.

Well if I were you… I would stop playing and leave the hl2 community behind to pursue things that could hold my attention… or you could just hang around and bitch.
Personally I found Doom and Halo to be very boring but hl2 was fascinating… to each his own my friend… Then again I don’t visit doom or halo forums… cause I’m board by the games… Makes sense right?

personally, i love end game bosses as long as they they're not repetative and they stay interesting. For me the ending of HL2 didn't have the cool factor that most other game endings have. It still coulda gone without a boss, but like others said, it was way too abrupt. I woulda liked it if the G-Man sequence at the end was longer and took you on a trip that advances the story a little like in HL1. I liked the stop-time thing though, as long as it doesn't mean the whole story of the HL series has to do with time travel. I still think it woulda made sense to have some sort of exciting flying boss come through the portal at the end though, like the combine is bringing out the heavy artillery to stop you.

Did anyone notice this? When the big portal appears at the end of the game you can see a little inside of it. You see some SPIRES. In HL1 Xen had those SPIRES on some of the islands! So I guess they were sending reinforcements from Xen since the Combine took it over? I mean come on! Has anyone else noticed that?

the only time the game started to get a tiny bit broing was at the end of the coast levels. Oh untill you get to the lighthouse. that was fun. and the dont step on the sand part was neat too!
some city17 levels felt kinda a tiny bit broing. Other than that I dont think the game was really boring. if a level was boring- the next level was 10 times better.

those 2 gunships were easy though. i played through it on hard too. (they should have made hard mode like it was in hl.)

That would defeat the whole purpsoe of a sequel that took 6 years to make.

I think he means just make it more difficult, not more like HL1. I think the main problem: there is was too much health powerups. I always had near full life. It wouldnt have been that hard to increase the difficulty, just maybe cut suit power in half, and give 75 max health. Then the game would be much harder.

I finished it a couple of days ago, and I thought it was the best thing ever. My only complaint was that i thought it was too short. They could easily have made it longer without it being repetative or boring.
The good thing about me finishing it now though is that i can finally go out now :)

No there wasn't.

i have seen another thread about that with a full picture of the spires... cant find it right now... but if you want to see the spires in a closer look.. then use noclip to get into the portal and see it.
¨ by the way, it looks like there is a face in the middle of the towers if you look close ¨

Beh I just beat the game again. The spires are not like the ones on Xen, nvm.

The spires in the combine universe appear to may as relay things, liek a giant teleporter.

i hate ravenholm (altho it looks cool and all) and that part where you cant touch the sand... god damn bugs scare the crap out of me :rolling: the ending was interesting, i didnt really know what to do at first i though i was sposed to jump in that portal thingy :bounce:

Awesome

Yeah, after beating this game, I declare it to be the #1 1st person shooter of all time. This game rivals Doom1 when it first came out in terms of its newness and incredible realism. But this game blew me away in terms of the amazing graphics, the realistic characters, and the interesting storyline. So yeah, I spent the last 3 days of my life beating it, but it was worth it. HALF LIFE ROCKS!!! :afro:

I just completed the game. It really was amazing. Yes, it did end a little abruptly...I was expecting a little bit more to go when Alyx said something about getting out of there but of course, that was just a decoy. The ending wasn't bad, it just wasn't as mind-blowing as the rest of the game.

I do get a sense of "Matrix Reloaded" tho. The game hasn't ended, it's merely half-way thru a 2 part game (in a sense). Trouble is, the 2nd part is gonna be AGES away!! The good thing with this ending though, is that you couldn't help but want more...I am genuinely fascinated by what is/was/will be happening in the Half-life universe.

Great game. 10/10. Peerless. Awesome. Bar raising. What else can I say? Congratulations and thanks to Valve.

I don't really think a massive boss for HL2 would work.

Something about the ending just felt "right" for me.

Halo 2 didn't have an end boss either. And as any PC gamer knows, Halo was only a hit because it was the first DECENT console FPS. It was really rather repetitive/mediocre. You'll notice that when it hit PCs it didn't get any editor's choice awards. Just a bunch of n00bs played it and realized FPSs could be fun.

Halo 2 actually WAS decent, but it sucks the boots of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2. However, Doom 3 can't take the time to enjoy it because its flashlight got shoved up its ass by Half-Life 2.

id and Valve both have enormous egos. Valve has earned theirs.

The ending to Half-Life 2 is awesome and surprising. When that thing started blowing up and then slowed to a halt and the G-Man says, "Time, Mr. Freeman?" I was like, "Valve, you bastards! You've created the best game-ending of all time! Now I HAVE to play Half-Life 3!"

What exactly is fun about having to repeatedly load saved games at the end, when you SHOULD be enjoying a really awesome conclusion? Stories don't always have "end-bosses" and that's what Half-Life is: a story.

The G-Man pwns you all.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I thought the game was an okay length. I thought the game was coming to a close at the end of Nova Prospekt but I was VERY pleasantly surprised when we came out of the slow-teleport. That was so cool when Kleiner peeked out from behind that concrete slab and when Barney came up on the screen in the middle of a battle. Did you folks really want it to devolve into the repetitive folly of Doom 3? Although Doom had some badass parts, Half-Life 2 was COMPOSED of badass parts.

Some people just can't be pleased. These people we call haters. These people think that Half-Life 2 is too short and has a bad ending. These people's demands from a game will only be satiated by, in the words of Chuck Osborn, "gazing into the face of God." 'Nuff said.

What Happens In The Ending I See The 2 Helicoptors Then I Have To Restart Climbing Up Again

I like how HL2 ended with

the citadel exploding

rather than just having some stupid Hollywood action movie style ending where gordon gets some huge chain gun with infinite bullets (that's too heavy for him to even pick up, let alone use) and tears through countless combine troops and escapes the citadel just as it explodes and have Gordon and Alyx kiss at the end.

Yeah, it was already damn hard for me. I can already call it a "Boss" like difficulty.

Nice description… My blood is boiling just thinking about if that was the ending.

I think a super gunship upgraded would have been cool.

Instead of 2 normal ones.

That you could ignore or kill.

I agree, I finished it about an hour ago and all I was doing was ignoring everything and shooting breen with everything I could get my manipulator on. The ending rocked too, I was all hyped up for jumpin off stuff to escape but noooo gman comes by and stops time and stuff. I also liked the dialgue in the end it was well timed and rather unexpected. Can't wait for hl3 that's all i'm sayin. Countless poissibliities.
My theory is thatKleiner goes and invents some sort of slow time warp thng that he was saying needed more research and sends a few people in there, i'm guessing barney and alyx if they survived. And then gorden shows up and releases them and whamo hl3 begines.
