Which 'Barney' makes it into Half-Life 2

Is it the one from Blue Shift? I thought he got clean away from Black Mesa but his full name was Barney Calhoun wasnt it?

Or have they just merged all the identical security guards from the first game into one character? I thought these guys were just given the name 'Barneys' as a descriptive term
 
Yup. People liked the Barney Guards from HL so much that it was decided that there would be an expansion with a named one in it: Blue Shift, with Barney Calhoun.

I'd assume that that's the Barney in HL2.
 
Well seeing as he gets away it's probably him but I hardly think it matters - it was simply a generic term.
 
Barney is obviously a traitor, he wears the combine uniform in the hl2 vids. He betrayed Gordon's nobal cause.
 
yes, this would be the same video where he is helping Gordon Take out a Metrocop barricade?
 
Gordon doesn't realize Barneys betrayel since Barney removed his combine mask.
 
Are you kidding or what? He's wearing the same uniform as them. I'd think it was more possible that he was betraying the MetroCops and Combine.
 
I doubt it. I think Otis was too busy gathering donuts and chocolate bars from the complex to worry about escaping Black Mesa.

Wow, someone needs to make an Otis single player mod where your only goal is to collect as much food as you can...and steal office supplies!
 
Maybe Otis caused the Resonance Cascade... by stealing the spare interlocking safety bolts for the field containment device on the antimass spectrometer!

He probably drove to c-17 with the scientist from the end of blue shift - i suppose that would explain how kleiner got there :)
 
But didnt the Barney from Blue Shift never meet Freeman during the blue shift game? I mean, he could have known him before but his comment to freeman during the barriacade video suggests that they were together during the incident. Or perhaps he is only refering to the fact that they both were at Black Mesa, i dont know...
 
Isn't this being a bit nit-picky? Just 'cause you never met Gordon in Blue Shift doesn't mean they didn't know each other. Besides, if you'd met Gordon in the game it would've been two mutes not communicating - boring. And you would have shot him in the face. Repeatedly :naughty:
 
At the end of Blue Shift you see how the grunts take Gordon to the compactor.
And I think, the scientist told im about Gordon.
 
Forget Blue Shift, man! When you were Gordon running around in HL1 you saw barney lots of times!
...Or was that his clones..... ?

Anyways, of course they've met eachother!

Barneys family is a hillbilly clan and all Barneys are brothers.
And the look all the same because of incest. ^^;;;
 
so was this incest plot a way to take over the world because maybe that is what HL2 is actually about!

Well, all the security guards are called "Barney" unofficially, but it wasn't until Blue Shift that an guy named Barney actually existed in the games. All the rest have other, unspecified names.
Therefore, If the guy from "barricade" is named Barney, He's most likely Blue Shift's Barney Calhoun.
Otherwise, that could be Barney Greggerson or something, one of the generic guards with a co-incidental name.

it would have been a long drive, since city17 is in europe and black mesa in arizona

I ****in hate that otis guy (the fat barney replacement in OP FORCE right?). It was the wisconsin-ish (or whatever) accent that did it.
 
My guess is that the combine armor is simply the best protection of the time, and therefore he wears it.

Barney is awesome though, can't wait to play hl2 with him. he's a hell of a lot more entertaining than half of you goons :D
 
I think he's the barney that left Black Mesa by jet to pursue a career as an international playboy race car driver, he turned to booze when he realised his porn star wife was leaving hi and from there he spiralled, he ended up taking chemicals to ease the pain until his gang banging depravity lead him to fall in with the bad kids. These new friends called themselves the combine and encouraged barney to join them, poor befuddled barney searching for some identity gave up his mansions and riches and joined their cause. Next thing he was strapped into some suit and hazed by the other combine people, the hazing was so thorough and heart wrenching that Barney fled the gang to join Gordan.
 
I got it.... Barney, in fact is ... "Agent Smith"! And uses the copy paste ability to multiplicate himself. By that he can be at the same time in Black Mesa, Europe, the Combine annual toga party and eating donuts with Otis. Agent Barney Smith works for G-man, also known as "Agent G" from MIB (Men In "Blue"). That's why the two "agents" are always chasing aliens around. The bizarre part, "Agent G Man" is Alyx ex-boyfriend, who dumped him because he couldn't find her "G" spot... now he's pissed off and is using the Men in Blue's resources to hire alien mercenaries and try to take over the world. And you may ask... "What's Gordon Freeman's role in all that mess?". He used to work as a lawyer in Wall street, but he decided to go after his dream, which is open a seafood restaurant in eatern Europe. The "Gordon's Cousine", as will be called, wil be specialized in "Head Crab Risotto", and the custumers will be able to choose their own Head Crab from a fish tank and kill it with Freeman's very own and trusted crowbar... That's the real story!

I don't think you'll be able to - in the Barricade vid, Gordon fights alongside him, and I'll bet that's not the only time. Therefore, to stop people shooting Gordon in the face, or have Barney having a mute staring contest with him, where previously (that is to say, in HL2 single-player) Barney was quite the cunning linguist. I think the equivalent would be fighting as a resistance member.
