Sims 2. Not really competition though. All people play Sims, small kids and stuff so Sims will make more money than HL2. But still, all serious HL2 fans will pick it before da Sims 2...:D

Alot of money will be made on both games...

F.E.A.R

Why isn't that an option. It's an amazing looking FPS that has just as good if not better graphics. I vote for F.E.A.R

Doom III: Tight corridors, limited maps, and few enemies on screen at any one time (all save for a few situations). Mid-low end computers will get internally raped by this one.

Half-Life 2: Large outdoor scenes, maps as large as BF1942, large city settings with plenty of friendly/enemy units around. DX 7 card should be able to play the game albeit without all of the glitter and looks.

I think it's hard to compare the two visually. They are made with completely different ideas in mind. I'm not knocking Doom III at all, I actually thought the game was pretty awesome, except maybe for a few parts and the ending. It wouldn't really be fair to compare the two with each other visually since they are so opposite from one another.

Anyways, lots of those games are going to be real popular. I don't like some of them personally. To be honest, I'm most looking forward to R:TW, which will kick all sorts of ass as well. Along with the CoD expansion. All in all, it has been a good year for gaming.

I have high hopes for Rome: Total War...

Its not often i meet an inteligent person on these forums. :)

Out of the list though i would say GTA SA.

San Andreas looks like a piece off nasty s***. GTA games have extreamly bad production value in my opinion, they're graphics are really bad, they dont even utilize a good physics system, the handling on the cars are nasty and the animations look half-assed at the very best...

Doom 3 in my opinion was uber kool... everything else in the list can go to hell... lol pun intended...

gta graphics look old cause its on a ps2.. do you know what a ps2 is equivilant to interims of pc? a 533 mhz comp.. and xbox is like a 1. ghz comp

ps2 is weak but the pc version will kick ass..
however. the polycount in game is so damn low. i think its lower than what SSX was pushing back in 2001

hahaha yea man, ps2 graphics are weak. xbox is kinda startin to slack a bit, Halo 2 aint really doin much for me in the graphics department... although burnout 3 looks amazing!!!
so does DOA ultimate, im so gettin that game...
But HL2 I think will have no competition at the time it comes out... Far Cry and Doom 3 give it a run but I've already beatin those games and am not that interested in them no more... HL2 multiplayer is whats gwanin.

its kinda sad that we have to stay with the ps2 and xbox until 2006 cause thats when the next gen consoles are coming

this is sad cause the software has surpassed the technology and these fat asses don't care to upgrade their systems until it is seen fit financially...

GTA:SA will own in the OCT. That series only gets better and better

You forgot the "None of the above" option as I don't see any of those games on the list offering direct competition.

I'd have to say out of that list Sims 2 just because the first out sold any computer game ever but off that list F.E.A.R. or if it was still coming out Sam N Max 2

Half-Life 2 will hav a lot of succes

the only FPS avaible that can be compared like "more advanced" to HL2 are:
Doom3
FarCry
Cronicles of riddick:escape of butcher bay

and the prinicpal reason is the graphics but sitll like that HL2 will be better just not for it graphics

lol, halo 2. you people bring tears to my eyes.

Id have to say GTA as we know how much that franchise sells plus i know some one who is beta testin for them and there some stuff which will bring some new stuff to GTA although i dont think they really needed to. Look at 3 and vice city. there wasnt much of a difference but they both sold like hot cakes, only turn off for me is time frame, setting of it.

Another one is Sims 2 even though i hate the franchise for some crazy reason the first game sold like mad. Im sure like nearly everyone bought the game and not let on, the sales on that game was just a mystery.

NEITHER.

GTA SA is a console.
NFSU 2 and GT are different genre.
Only halo fanboys want halo 2.
Doom3 flopped.

I voted for halo 2, not because I'm a fan of the first one, but because it’s the one I c as the biggest competition for Half-life 2 (I think all the titles will sell reasonably well but HL2 will likely out sell em)

(As always feel free to bash my opinion if I am missing an important piece of info)

I don't see how any of those games could possibly compete with HL2. The only FPS that has any chance(in your list) is for the xbox. That's right, no Doom 3. I played that game and while the graphics were super (even on my GF4ti) the gameplay was not there. Seriously, from what I've seen(and played :O) Half-Life 2 is going to be amazing. And imo HL2 does have better graphics then D3. D3 has the same theme through the whole game...metalic mars base bulkheads. Half-Life 2 has life in the environments and textures. It looks "dirty" in a way, as stated before, and that's one of the things that makes it look so good. The water and HDR visuals are amazing and the physics are just so life-like. It will also have a compelling storyline...unlike some games where you go around in the pitch blackness with you flashlight, and then switch to you gun and fire in the dark, crossing your finger hoping that you're hitting something.

I'm looking forward to FEAR, it looks like it will be a tight game. Stalker looks interesting as well but I won't have the time to play it.

One game that I'm really looking forward to is Advent Rising. It was just pushed back to Q1 2005 because of all of the Holiday competition, but it looks like it will seriously be an awesome game.(I was able to go and visit the developers and they showed a lot of cool stuff you can do, and the things they have done with the physics and visuals)

Duke Nukem Forever

This game will do things never seen before in a video game even in HL2

I was a Doom fanboy, for a year b4 doom III i was playing doom95 once a day, but now that has come and gone, and good as it was, it -wasnt- spectacular, im hoping HL2 will be MUCH better.
On the same note, just the style and setting and the such of STALKER are more appealing to me, so i think thats gonna be even better.
That is, ofcourse, coming out after HL2 sometime in Q1 2005

and Duke Nukem Forever will break lots of gaming records,
becoming the biggest industry joke
having the longest production time
and it coined the phrase "When its done"

will that be due to the fact that you will never see it. hence the never seen bit.

If you cancel out sims 2 just for the sake that it will probably beat them all and if you go by world wide sales then its GTA:SA. places like japan buy console games like crazy but they dont like FPS they will most likely buy GTA:SA or GT. Europe its GTA:SA, US its probably gonner be Halo 2.

the only reason Halo seemed to do well was cos it was the only game bought for Xbox so it looked like it did well cos it had loads of sales for the Xbox.

Also microsoft destroyed the oddworld franchise. sad really, but thats what happens if you become sellouts and go with microsoft when they offer large sums of money.

As far as total sales I think GTA:San Andreas will destroy HL2 and any other pc-based game simply because console games always sell to a much larger market. As far as GOTY consideration, HL2 should win if it's as good as we think it is. Seriously, the only other game that could be as innovative and fun would be Duke Nukem Forever but that game has no hope of seeing the light of day for the forseeable future. Halo 2 will be great as a console fps but only 'ok' as a pc game.

NOTHING. None of those games (or anything for that matter) can compete with the godliness that is... HALF LIFE 2.
