Which monitor should I buy for college?

Thread title pretty much says it all. What monitor should I get? I have until 8/31 (when most of the deals end)

Those are three I am considering... are there any other pretty good monitors out there that are worth looking my consideration? I read some where that the LG would be the best... but I have used Samsungs in school and I know they are good. I like the Hanns-G because it is so freakin' big. Any advice is welcome.

My understanding is that it works out better with the math, it's been the TV and filming standard since ages, and I've also heard that it could cut production costs somehow, though I haven't seen any sources on that. And maybe one could argue that it (1.78:1) is closer to the human vision aspect ratio (1.75:1).

I have been using 16:9 for a long time. It is nice when I am programming, because I can have a database on one side of the screen and the code on the other side. It also makes things like debugging easier. I wish I could afford one of the Samsungs that swivel so that the monitor becomes vertical...

But really guys, which monitor is the best? Does anyone truly know the answer? Does it truly matter?

Edit: Err I feel dumb 16:10 gives more space vs. 16:9.
Now I am considering Dell's 2209WA E-IPS ... higher response time but the colors will pop.

LG are a great brand in general, so if you've heard that that specific one is good then I'm sure it is.

Personally I don't like monitors with built in speakers, so I'd skip the Hanns one.

This one. I have it's 16:10 big brother which is 25.5", but this is a very solid monitor. Asus, free shipping, savings and it's perfect for all you rneeds. I got mine close to a year ago and it's been awesome.

I recommend the Hanns-G. I've had one for, I don't know, 3-4 years and it's been absolute perfection.

You can't go wrong with Hanns-G. It's a well reputed brand.
I have had one myself for a year and half now and not one dead pixel so far.

Ya I haven't been around in a while... college/programming kind of took over my life. I usually stay on reddit but I like to come here for tech advice. I still play and love tf2.

Right now I am kind of torn between the Samsung and the ASUS monitors. I might wait until next month (mid next week) hopefully there will be better deals?

I've got that monitor now. It's quite amazing. The colours actually stand out. It's an extremely bright monitor. It also works amazing with my 360 over HDMI. It's a great, great monitor.

I've been planning to get a 24" for a long time, but since the prices have come down some, lately I've been thinking of getting a larger one, perhaps 25-26".

Does anyone have any regrets about getting a large monitor?

The only thing that keeps me from getting a large monitor is that I don't want to deal with FPS drops and being forced to upgrade my system to"QUADCORE SLI QUAD CPU 1200W PSU WATERCOOLED" thing.

You don't really notice the difference from a change like 1680x1050 to 1920x1200. You would, however, notice a gigantic change from 800x600 to 1920x1200.

Wait. I forgot what I was typing this for.

Oh yeah. Games look fine and will obviously have better FPS with a lower resolution. (Obvious statement of the year award goes to me!) You don't need to play on the highest. Just drop it down maybe one or two resolutions. Try and keep the aspect ratio though. That's one thing I've noticed. When you get out of the aspect ratio of your monitor, it starts to look.. squished.

Some monitors (mine ) automatically letter box it so it doesn't stretch anything. You can also probably do this with Catalyst Control Panel or whatever tool nvidia has.
