yeah, the first one is definitly the best. It was new and fresh. It slowly goes down from there, leaving #4 quite hard to tolerate...though i should still read 5 :upstare:

I have yet to read any of the other Dirk Gently books, but the first one should be arriving at my place soon, if amazon isn't lagging behind. I can't wait, I hear they are fantastic.

They are. Though not in the same way as the Hitchhiker books.

But funny, just the same.

So Long And Thanks For All The Fish was labled as the fourth book in the Hitchhiker's Trillogy,.. and it was just that, a trillogy. So Long was such a detachment from the rest of the series. Mostly Harmless was, in some ways, a return to the sensibility of the first three books, but still something was missing, and honestly, I hated the ending. If I recall, it ends with the something causing the universe to never have existed. What a waste. :/

Books 1-3 were awesome. They were all great. I really cant decide between them so I just voted for Hitchhikers. These are definitly of the most memorable books I've ever read.

I did read the Dirk Gently book, but I was quite young at the time and didn't really appriciate them. Maybe I would now, I'm not sure.

Anyhow. I'm looking forward to the Hitchhiker movie. I'm not really sure about Mos Def as Prefect, but I'll keep an open mind. I hope they did it justice.

RIP Douglas Adams

I'm more worried about who voices Marvin, though.

Alen Rickman. He's a good choice.
Mostly Harmless actually ended with the Earth being destroyed in every single dimension, while Ford, Arthur, Random, and Trillian (both of them) were on it. Douglas seems to have clearly had an intention to write them a way out of that in the next book whenever he got around to it, but unfortunately it never happened.
