Which version?

I got Hammer 3.4, can I map for HL2 with it? Or, is there an updated version?

Every one keeps talking about the Source SDK to get the editor, what is it and how do I get to it?

Note: never played HL (the original), or used Steam before.

A little lost here... please help.

No you can't map for HL2 with Hammer 3.4. Well, you can build the map with Hammer 3.4 but you have to compile it with the new build tools so you need the SDK to do so. You can get the SDK if you have purshased HL2, it will be in the Play Games menu of Steam. Steam is a program that Valve uses to deliver patches and new stuff, games etc... To play Valve's games, you need Steam. Steam is free. The games are not.

In the future, try to use the search function of the forums, those questions have already been answered. This way we don't get 325 threads about the same topic and it's easier for everyone to know where to look and discuss rather than having many replys in different threads.
