Who actually has a HD-DVD / Blueray player?

I really don't care about either format in the least and the only time I ever hear them discussed is online. Neither are a large market here and everyone I know is just sticking with DVDs. Are they a bigger thing elsewhere?

Note: If you have a PS3 but never actually watch Bluerays on it vote no. This is about who uses them.
 
I have a ps3 but never use it for movies or games :|
 
I only buy HD movies these days.
 
Yes, we have an HDDVD, but they hardly sell any HD-movies, so it's kind of useless.
 
I've wanted to for a while (HD quality is nice) but the price and format war have prevented my so far (although I'm looking into getting one for my PC again). In the meantime I've avoided buying DVDs for quite a while now.
 
I have a PS3 which I use very often for Blu-Ray movies. I don't have a huge collection, but I'm growing it by about 4-5 movies a month.

I also have a Toshiba laptop which will play HD-DVDs, but I have yet to get it working with my TV. I'm going to work on remedying that though, since I have two movies on HD-DVD.
 
Well I just looked into it again, the players are much better but there aren't enough quality titles available (for both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray combined) in Australia yet for it to be worth it for me.
 
I'll wait it out until this war is over. I'm content with DVD, and in no rush.
 
I'm in no rush either, generally I watch most stuff through my PC Monitor anyhows (22" WS), so little need for HD-DVD or Blu-ray at present. Personally I'd rather HD-DVD won out though tbh, because if Sony have a monopoly they will keep prices high, plus Blu-Ray is a shit name (sounds more like a make of condom than an actual format).
 
I wont be buying either until the format war is over. Don't want to go out and buy a HDDVD player if Blu-Ray wins in the end.

DVD quality is fine for a while anyway. HD is nice, just not worth it yet.
 
It's possible to download movies in high definition directly to the xbox 360. It's also possible to stream them in HD to the 360. I do both.

THG recently proved that there is no noticeable quality difference between films played from a HDDVD/BRD and films played from the 360s HDD.

Those streamed over the wireless network look f*cking great on the 360 too.
 
Yes, a PS3. Stopped buying DVD's.

I have a 32" CRT TV, and a 19" WS Monitor.
DVDs.
HD is too Pricey.
 
In all seriousness I'm looking at your collection and wondering what inspired you to buy at least half those films, beyond the fact they are on Blu-ray and doing so helped you justify buying the PS3 in the first place. Children of men, Casino Royale & The Prestige I can understand, but the rest.....:|
 
I haven't seen any of them before and as I said I don't buy DVD's anymore (with the exception of the film being rare and the likeness of it turning up on either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is slim).

And no, I don't try to "justify" my purchase by buying loads of stuff.

But judging by your collection, you're the perfect Sony consumer though, because you've bought pretty much everything that's been hyped to the gills over the last 12 months. I mean why you a buy a film, especially on Blu-ray you've never seen? When you can rent it on Blu-ray instead for a lot less, and then buy it when it's on budget if it's worth buying? :dozey:
 
I don't rent things, only buy. That's just something personal to me.

Lets get back on topic now or are you going to ask me why I have black underwear?

Loke how did you get Children of Men on Blu-Ray since Universal is HD-DVD exclusive?
 
Uhh, in addition to my earlier post (the one about downloading movies in HD from XBLM) ... It's not THG that made the article, it was these guys.

As someone said in the other thread (about WB going BD exclusive) - The physical format is pointless in a world where everything will be available online. We're entering that stage now.
 
I have a PS3. I have watched blu-ray movies on it...3 times so far.
Spider-man 3 that came with the unit. Ocean's Thirteen, rented. And...nevermind. 2 times. (I have watched many DVDs on it though. And have 5 free Blu-ray movies coming via mail promo.)
Although if there is a movie that I want on Blu-ray, I'll get it instead of DVD. But it's more of a "I have it so lets make use of it" than a big desire to watch HD content.
 
I knew that Asuka was going to have one of them, but both? Actually, it doesn't really suprise me.
 
we have a Blu ray on the big screen I've watched the departed and apocolypto in Blu ray. The quality is fresh in hi def but, I'm not too hyped about it. Maybe because a lot of the stuff i watch on that big screen is in hi def anyways... So the transition from hi def tv to movie isn't that exciting as it would from sdtv quality to hi def movie quality.
 
I don't really notice the difference between HD and normal. I was kinda disappointed when I saw HD for the first time.
 
No. I don't want to end up with a Betamax v2 player.

Seems to be pretty big in my area

Having worked in BestBuy for the past couple months as a 3rd party vendor for Epson; I am in the computer section where the printers are, whose job is to sell out printers, ink, paper and other misc accessories.. throughout the day dozens and dozens people come in asking me to direct them to the Home Entertainment section( as well as other things too) as they are looking for HDTV and HD players, which ones are good/reliable cheap, blu-ray or hd-dvd samsung or LG blah blah blah... and as much as the oblivious customers are they always ask me shit that I am not supposed to have information about, I SELL PRINTERS FOR EPSON!

A lot of the homes i've been to whether it be friends, friend of friends or parties. This HD stuff is everywhere! I am surprised at how quickly it has been reaching out as it started becoming popular like around Q4 of 2006.

As Loke mentioned, the jump certainly is not as mind-blowing as going from VHS to DVD. And, considering the jump to HD from DVD is more costly that the junp was to DVD from VHS, I'm going to be waiting a long while before I start picking up this format...the reward just isn't as high.

In all honesty, I'm more impressed with the HD sound tracks that the picture. DTSHD and even PCM uncompressed are incredible....clearly the biggest jump this gen.
