So who are you voting for?

Im voting for the man of the night, I think Tony has failed me.

In which country, if you are referring to the Uk, I would vote for the party that George Monbiot supports.

Charles Kennedy. Well, I'm not voting myself, since the Fountain of Youth leaked into my water supply at an early age, but my parents are, and I probably will at the next election.

*cough*

The Conservative party is, to quote David Byrne "same as is it ever was". They just want to pretend they're appealing to a greater audience now, when all people really want to do is ditch Blair. There aren't even that many who want to ditch Blair.

Charles Kennedy is doing it right for me, and seems like the best option for those deserting their current parties. They've been on the rise, and Charles Kennedy is the man to show the nation that the Lib Dems can be trusted.

I have always liked the conservatives ideals, but I do agree with alot of the other parties policys.

I just don't think Lib Dems are going to win, and I belive Howard can bring us out the hole we are in at the moment.

The problem is that Howard's way of tackling the hole isn't going to work, since his methods aren't really facing what is actually wrong.

What do you think is wrong with his methods?

When is the election?

And what's the parties called? I would like to improve my knowlage of the british parlament.

New labour(current)

Liberal Democrats(Charles Kennedy)

Conservatives(Michael Howard)

He seems to be trying to reach out to more people...with the same issues as ever.

Oh, the British Parliament is very funny.

You don't vote for a specific individual to run the country, you vote for an MP who is part of a party who elects the Prime Minister if they win...

The main parties are... Labour, currently in power, their leader is Tony Blair. The Tories (aka Conservatives), they've been around for forever and a day, but they've lost control over the last 10 years, having 1 useless leader after another after the "golden" Thatcher era. The Liberal Democrats, who've only ever won 1 election, despite making significant comebacks of late, but have been around the 2nd longest. Their leader is Charles Kennedy, and they'd be the American equivalent of out and out liberals. The Tories would be "extreme" Republicanism, and Labour the working class middle ground between the two.

The smaller parties that usually represent an extremist single view, or represent a region are:

The British National Party, who have been found to be pretty racist in their membership and stances...

The UK Independance Party, who hate Europe, the UN and Johnny Foreigner. Very new, and born out of the extremism caused by parties like the Tories and the BNP trying to save "our pound".

That Welsh One I Won't Try and Spell to Save Embarassment, who win a few seats in Wales, and look out for Welsh issues.

Scottish National Party, see Welsh example.

Independants, who always seem to win in some backwater ( :p ) place. They're Independant, and make me happy inside :D

A Myriad of Irish Parties, who're based in Northern Ireland trying to sort out the issues in NI.

5th May 2005.
Tony Blair - Labour Party (Current government)

Michael Howard - Conservative Party (Best contender against Labour for government)

Charles Kennedy - Liberal Democrats (Underdog of the three most popular)

Green Party (Fewer beards than you'd expect and not hugely popular. Despite the lack of beards)

British National Party (Racists desperate for a guise of credibility. Frighteningly gaining popularity. With other dim-witted racists.)

UK Independence Party (Right-wing oddballs who believe that Britain in no way needs the EU and that we should draw out. Previously fronted by Robert Kilroy-Silk, an ex-chat show host. Who was a racist.)

Socialist Workers Party (One of the most popular hammer-and-sickle parties. That's not saying much. Often found standing on street corners handing out newspapers, etc. Refuses to work with other Communist/Socialist parties - if they did that they might gain some votes.)

Personally, I'll only vote for Labour on two conditions:
1. It looks as if it'll be too close to call between Labour and Conservative - I don't want Count Howard to win... However in my area that's extremely unlikely.
2. Gordon Brown takes over. So, if Hell freezes merrily over in the next six months.
Otherwise it's Charles Kennedy all the way for me.

Oh, I forgot the Socialist Workers and the Greens, despite the Greens being the 4th biggest. Perhaps I just try to forget them :p

It's easily done :)
I wish people would forget about the UKIP and BNP. Including the founding members.

Or deport them on ships to ex-colonies.

I really don't get the people who believe in the principles of UKIP or the BNP. If anyone has read Something Rotten (in particular, read the rest of the Next series first though) it kinda reminds me of that. The Conservatives do a good enough job of opposing Europe and the Euro, amongst other things... it just seems to me like they need a party that's big on looking silly all the time.

I like the conservatives ideas on europe, yeh we need them, but we don't want to hand over everything to them.

I like the Lib Dems' views on Europe:

Asking the people.

Ah, thank you. I guess you don't want to hear about the swedish parties... ;)

Europe will become a super-state eventually, it's only a matter of time. Probably not in my life-time (19), but it will and I have no problem with that whatsoever. So nurr.

The_Monkey, go ahead - it's always interesting to better understand other nations' politics!

Alright, here we go. All the parties in the swedish goverment. Be aware that there will be more misspellings in this text than number of kills in WWII.

The Socialistdemocratic-party (labour-party): The leading party in Sweden. The only party in the goverment.

The Right party: The second biggest party in the goverment. The one most to the right.

The left part: Former communists. They don't call themselves that anymore, but they are. Supports the goverment.

The christ party: Not so much religion as of tradition. Will probably soon be out of the parlament. Observe: No racists.

The green party: The name speaks for itself. Supports the goverment.

The center party (farmer party): Supports the farmers.

The People's Party (the liberate party): The third biggest. Are growing fast.

Cheers for that!
I like Socialist Democracy :) Good stuff.
I find it interesting that many countries have faith-based parties, whereas in Britain we have none as far as I am aware. In fact the emphasis religion has in politics over here is very minimal. It often seems to come up in the politics/candidates in many other countries, but here we may know what religion they are, but it's never really pushed.
