Even though we dont really know the final reqs....

Its probably doom3, though the requirments will probably be around the same.

Minimum reqs HL2 will be much lower.

Reccomended will be the same.

doom 3 even though it looks kind of plastic (not just saying that cause i like hl2)

don't get me wrong, I'm not a doom3 fanboy, but doom3 doesn't look plastic at all, have u seen the movie final fantasy: the spirit within? If u have, u would say that the film looks plastic. Doom3's graphics level can almost compare to that film and we all know that movie industry always get the highest tech first. Of course doom3's graphics are not perfect, but to improve and get close to perfection, doom3's graphics is the path that videogame makers must take.

D3's min is something like 1Ghz, GF1 absolute min. So it'll look DIRTY. That's ridiculous for a min spec.
And yeah, Punzz I agree with you - it does look kinda rendered/rubbery.
Please no flame Please no flame.

teehee least i know my machien will run it......perfectly.....

the human models in the movie final fantasy: the spirit within are great, they can talk, act, move like humans, except they don't look exactly human which true, then some unprofessional command that the skins look kind of plastic. They may look plastic , but they are the best graphics u can get for the moment, even hollywood use it. Doom3's graphics is close to that level. As a hl fanboy, i truely wish hl2's graphics beat doom3's, but i must admit doom3's graphics is the greatest i have seen so far.

Sir Lancelot, if you are thinking about an upgrade may I suggest you wait until the games are released first. :)

i played doom 3 with a 512ram geforcefx5600 and 1.6ghz and i had 2fps near a monster

You also have to remember, HL2 won't look the same on older systems. So, if you want all the beauty get a nice system. ;)

if you want to acuratley compare Doom3 and HL2, youll just have to wait for their releases =)

Now that you mention it, it sure as hell does. Although.. I can't wait to play it. I wont upgrade for that game though.

Doom 3's graphics are more detailed, but HL2's render a more realistic environment. If that makes sense...

Funny how in addition to buying the game (50$) you have to upgrade and graphics cards are an obscece amout of money? 400 bucks? that's like crazy, wouldent it be nice to buy a game and be able to play it? Also I"m curious I've been told that http://www.half-life2.org.uk/check.php is not accurate would:

Windows XP

Pentium 4 at 1.60 Ghz

256MB of RAM

64MB Geforce 2 MX

and 40 GB of HD space

are these alright? if I need to I'll upgrade to a ATI radeon 9600 for 160$ (that's a 128MB memory) so...can some one give me some guidance please?

But I dont know how XBOX could manage it.
id promises DOOM3 will be fluently played on it.
But XBOXs GPU is nv25?

I feel that though the outlines of things in DOOM3 is so clear ,the
scene in HL2 has better sense of reality.

im sure xbox can handle it realtively well...its got a modified gf3...almost a gforce 4. and all the system's resources are devoted to gaming.

and even though its CPU is PIII 733

If you honestly think D3's graphics are close to FF level, you are fooling yourself. D3's graphics are on par with most rendered TV cartoons (in fact, it looks almost exactly like a live action "Starship Trooopers: Roughnecks", if you ever saw it on early morning Tv)

FF had fine hair and fuzz, incredibly detailed sets and models, and it was all done with real polys rather than bumpmapping (which is good, but nowhere near the same effect). Not saying that D3 is bad, in fact it's sitting at the top or among the top of the heap for sure as far s GAMES go, but you are kidding ourself if you think that it is Pixar or FF:SW feature film quality. Certainly in a broad overview it looks similar, but the same level of fine detail is not there yet. The fact that games can now use the same sorts of shaders as those productions doesn't mean that they can achieve anywhere near the same quality at a high enough res to matter.

I agree with Apos, Doom 3 looks great, but it's still not FF... But it's a step in the good direction, to say the least. I don't think games will look like Pixar work soon. Come on, look at Finding Nemo, it's cartoonish, but no video game can achieve that for the moment, and I don't think it will be possible before a couple of years...

I CANT WAIT FOR HL2 ANY LONGER. I MUST TRAVEL INTO THE FUTURE.

Doom3 looks OK, a little plastic, and low poly. Hopefully they add in TrueForm support. (5 sided pipes anyone?)

HL2...well..lthey went the way of UT2k3 and used models, so higher detail with little loss. works well. :)

You'll be able to play HL2, no doubt, with your Geforce 2 MX, but if you want to have all the bells and whistles you're definitely going to need to upgrade to a DX9 card such as Radeon 9800 or FX5900, etc.

Windows XP - yes fine.

Pentium 4 at 1.60 Ghz - medium quality

256MB of RAM - medium quality

64MB Geforce 2 MX - low quality

and 40 GB of HD space - who cares. As long as you have enough to run the game (1-2 GB) it won't affect performance in any real way. You might want to defrag it though.
