......port over the original HL to the new HL2 engine? I'm curious to know if anyone is or someone is planning on doing it. I think it would be fun if we can play the origianl story with the new graphics and physics. Grant it I would think they need to change things around a bit. Anyway is there talk in doing something like that? Would be grea tto add Opposing force and blue shift along with that.

I'd participate, but i'm only good with concepts and some mapping (UT2k3)

Soon i'll be beginning my education as an animator, so it won't be long before i can help out any mod with that :D...

But hell i'd jump on any mod that has converting classic HL to source :bounce:
 
And add in PEEKING and PRONE, while yer at it. It wouldn't dissuade gameplay, rather it'll enhance it. :dork:
 
Valve would need to do it. Only they have access to the original .rmf's. (Except for the two beginning ones that came with the SDK)

whats wrong with asking them nicely for the rmf's?? :D they said it would be up to the community!
 
Remaking HL would probably take quite some time... And remaking it GOOD will take years.
 
i wonder if the old maps will work with half-life2... without editing or anything... of course i guess you'd have to screw around with textures and entities and crap.

I'd say one would use the maps as a reference, i would much rather prefer them being rebuilt totally in the new hammer (and then adding probs and much much much more detailto the map) instead of just porting it....
 
they already tried that with starwars and look what happened
 
Hasn't Valve already done this? I think I read it somewhere.. Anyway, the biggest work would probably be to convert all textures to materials with bump mapping and what not.

no i think it was hinted by gabe, that the job of converting the old HL to source would be up to the community...i think his answer was "good idea"....

If only....people would read the "stuff from valve" thread first, so so so so many posts would have never been born ;(
 
Gabe said that they have directly ported the original HL to the HL2 engine, but without any improvements - just to show to the modders how easy it is to port existing content.
