Who's going to be next?

Since the United States is in the autum of power (failing economy, intoverted populace, turning to god for all there answers and greatly oversteping its own moral, ethical and legal boundarys) who will rise to replace them?

My money is on either the EU + Russia or China + Russia, the latter being more likely. One very unlikely but interesting outcome would be for The EU, Japan and India.

Um, the United States is'int that bad here. I've been all over, and its not like anything you described. BTW, the US is'int on its autumn of power. Infact, its not even a Superpower technically.

Its only wanned as one because of its Nuclear Threat.

Who will rise to replace us? Depends. Russia is'int that strong a Government as it was from say, 10 years ago. China, I like China.

I would probably say China, but the states aint going to dissapear overnight so who knows what will happen in that timespan.

Heh, the US is nowhere near the point of previous....superpowers, in the terms you suggest in the first post. That is, other empires and "great nations" have gone far far past those boundaries before collapsing. I don't think the US will collpase in fact, at least not in the way we might imagine from past events. However, other parts of the world will catch up sooner or later, and I suspect a lot of that will be in Asia and perhaps some other parts of the so called developingworld.

You must not be aware that America's poorer economy doesn't spell any sort of disaster for the country. The economy changes every year, some its good... some its not so good, but its not going to even begin to cause a collapse of the country. Just isn't going to happen, it's almost impossible to even fathom. The states have been through FAR worse.

I don't see a grand collapse happening. To be honest it will be far more like a school yard bully realising that the freaks, geeks and nerds have A: been spending there lunch breaks in the weight room and B: organised themselves.

China will be next, its going through the same stuff (a little more slowly) that the US did at the end of WWII, and the rate of industrialisation/power growth in the US was directly proportional to its population at the time.
China has a massive population, far greater than the US, and so I'd say they were the next superpower.

Vietnam wasn't a war, it was a police action, and that is the reason the united states lost. The military forces weren't allowed to do all they were capable of, and ultimately, that worked against them to great effect. Besides, the north vietnamese might be great on their home turf and in guerilla warfare, but that hardly counts for superpower capability.

And by not able to do all they were capable of, I mean they weren't allowed to destroy key enemy assets, or attack key enemy towns which were vital for the vietcong and NVA. It was basically all public relations bullshit that lost the war for us.

EDIT2: And well, the other reason we lost the war, is because on the homefront the military lost support for the war. Two very important aspects to why the police action was lost.

I really don't see that the US is on some brink of a collapse or monumental fall from power. Although some humility and restraint certainly wouldn't hurt.

As for the next big power? Lichtenstein. Fear them, for they make sausage skins. Fear them.
China is more likely than the EU which really needs to get its arse in gear and be slightly less bureaucratic. But it will become a new superpower eventually, whether UKIP like it or not.
