It's funny to see people creating troubles to valve before they release the most anticipated upcoming game, it's funny to see valve ends up real ****ed up. Just keep showing up leaked material and hurting where it feels hurt. What community is this?? a shameful one. What are we?? The Chaos Legion.

I'm not.

I'm not even going to look at another HL2 picture or post until the hacker gets caught, or more solid info is given. I love HL2 so much, even though I can't play it because my computer is crap.

Well, i have to much respect for VALVe to download the source code and beta. I find that alot of these people contribute to the problem by download these illegial files, then in the same sentance complain about the game being delayed.

it would be pointless. i'll just wait, i don't mind checking out the cool screen shots though, just kinda fuels my anticipation for the game... ah well, i guess if valve would actually clear up some of this mess the community wouldn't have to turn to an early beta build to get their fix

Though the screenshots are very attractive in a sense, people have been saying that the monsters don't attack you and large parts of the game is missing. I for one, don't want to spoil this maginificant game for myself. Screenshots wouldn't hurt.

I don't want to ruin my first time through HL2 by playing a buggy, incomplete, crappy version of the game first.

It's a no-brainer... I'm actually shocked so many people are even tempted. We've waited this long... another few months is nothing.

I've checked out the screenshots but i refuse to download the game or movies...it sure is tempting but ill resist.

I made sure to tell all my friends about my decision and of course they bet i would download it so now its a matter of integrity that i dont download it.

I really have no plans to dl it. I'm with Salmonax when he says he doesn't want to play such a buggy piece, and possibly ruin my real HL2 experience that is right around the corner (whether it be in the holidays or in April).

Geez ur all dense. If the version is so crappy and incomplete what will it ruin? NOTHING! I will download this when I can. I spent 4 hours trying to get it and to no avail. I seriously do NOT see how this beta will ruin anything. No music. No scripts. Incomplete. What is there to ruin?!

pffft, trying to download a 1.3Gb file on a 56k modem, could i really be stuffed. Anyway, i have to much respect for VALVe to do that anyway.

carloschingarlo, i think for a lot of people its not just the prospect of spoiling the game but respect for valve and the community...

As in my situation.

I've had a look at a few screenshots, but I won't download it. I've got too much respect for VALVe. In fact, I'm not gonna look at any more screens either. I don't want to ruin the surprise

Please. From what I've heard the beta contains dozens of locations, large maps, lots of enemies and all the weapons.

Yeah, that won't spoil anything.

0 download for me.
If they had stolen only a buggy e3 alpha release (like doom3) I probably would have but they took the source code so I just can't support that kind of stupidity.

i still cant believe people are scrambling for a beta download, turn around and complain about another delay (ironically caused by the theft).

i for one am against downloading the beta or the source code, although it would be very interesting to look at (the source code)

I don't mind looking at the equivalent of leaked photos but there's no way in heck I'm downloading the stolen copy of HL2. (It's not a Beta, Betas are intentionally released.) Valve will give me my games not Joe-locked-in-a-room. Get a life!

I am downloading it because I just want to see what the mess is about.

However, it will be un-installed once I try it and all media to it will be deleted.

I do believe people who share it and post pictures are more wrong then the ones who just want to try it for themselves.

I have vague recollections of getting quite drunk last night and having a huge argument about this with a friend of mine in real life. I feel somewhat strongly for Valve. Its a pitty for Gabe that he's instilled all this trust and spent so much time with this community, then as soon as something like this whole fiasco happens, said community are backstabbing.

Its an utter shame that anyone feels its 'ok' to even contemplate downloading the stolen code. I would ask those people to answer the following question totally truthfull, but I fear they're the ones who wouldn't get the point of it.

If you, and your team, had spent five years pumping your heart and soul into a groundbreaking game that millions of gamers are eagerly awaiting, and some hacker stole some of your beast, would you really want -your- community contributing to the problem by downloading and distributing it?

Why can't we all just leave Valve alone to do their damage analysis, sort out where they are, what they have to do? Instead of spending your time finding a download of the source, how about you trawl through your IRC logs and look for hints towards the hacker.

Please don't get mad at me, i'm just gonna take a peek and delete everything, i really really REALLY want to check the performance on my system and play with the manipulator in the techdemo :D

while there is an urge to download it just because i want it so bad, im not willing to ruin the experience

Personally I don't think it'll ruin the experience for me, i'm not going to use all weapon codes or check out non-e3 levels, i'll just see if it works and how and i'll throw it away

or maybe i'll change my mind and cancel the download because it takes sooo long

first of all this aint even close to being a beta....maybe an alpha at the most. i'll support valve and buy the game when if it ever comes out. for now, i'm having fun with the physics.

Nah i won't download it.

I prefer finished games.

Plus downloading the Doom 3 alpha taught me a lesson not to download unfinished games! It's just no fun..

Every single videogame in the history get leaked, hacked, cracked, iso, warez, gamez, etc. None of them is exception. All of them have been freely distributed to the people with full content. The same for movies, music, software and many thing else. Now Half life 2 has a beta demo leaked to the public, it's definitly sad for valve, but this isn't really a big deal in the videogame industry, it's every day life. Somehow, I have the following theory: The warez can push the videogame developpers to make better games, because if the game sucks, people will just download it freely from internet; if the game have great playability and replayability(ex: having multiplay with new content coming out all the time like mods), people will be willing to spend their money on it.

Source code release = bad
BETA release = GOOD

I think the beta release was a good thing. ppl will play it see how great it is and how much better the final will be and buy it. its not like valves secrets are being given away (source release).

Or... people will play it, see how stuff that happened in the E3 video doesn't happen when they try to recreate it and get a little pissed off and disappointed.

And the game works fine on the 5900 Ultra, so much for those 'benchmarks'

i think people have a misconception of things here..
it's not really buggy at all, the only thing that's missing is some textures and stuff.
in fact it hasn't crashed once, and all the levels look amazing, and the physics work great, so yeah, no bugs that i can see.
i'm sorry, but i had to try it, and it works great.
i didn't use bittorrent so i don't feel guilty cause i haven't given or uploaded anything to anyone.

anyway, all the levels load, and the enemies shoot at you, the ant lions crawl up from their holes, and the manipulator is just too ****ing awesome to even be described into words.
the ragdoll effects look totally real, and if i pick up a dude by his wrist, you can see the manipulator pulling at exactly the point i'm aiming at, and all the physics work the same.

just too ****ing unbelievable.
also, as for ruining the final game, there's really no story here, but yeah, alot of models and stuff you might not want to see.

You, Coax, deserve to be banned for what you did.

All the things I needed to know were in the E3 footage. I don't need a beta to know how much ass this game is going to kick. So I don't need any rantings on 'how cool it is'. It still is stolen software.
