who's planning to buy HL2 off steam?

no i want a box and manual and CD and stuff. much more reliable i think.

me either, though for multiplayer I will register it through steam

i like steam

Guys what in there world is steam.

I agree with MrWhite about buying the original version and not a copied version.

Steam is a quite new program made by VALVE where you can browse multiplayer games and play them (the games available are made by VALVE).
These are the games:
Half-Life
Counter-Strike 1.6 Beta
Team Fortress Classic
Deathmatch Classic
Opposing Force
And Ricochet.

Soon HL2 will be available on Steam also.
Basically its a program like The All-Seeing Eye (If you play CS you have probably heard of it) but with Steam you can also download the games.
When they have released the final version of Steam you will have to have the CD-Key from the game to be able to play it.

not only VALVE games.. steam's purpose is to take a new step in game and software shipping

Pirates of the Burning Sea is a mmorpg that will only be available via steam technology

1.10 How will the game be distributed?
We are using Valve’s new Steam technology to distribute the game entirely online. There will be no retail box in stores. Steam handles purchasing, subscriptions, logins, progressive content downloads, and upgrades. Go to www.steampowered.com for more information.

Given that hardly anybody here wants to buy it through Steam, and for the most part we're a bunch of HL2 obsessives ... that doesn't really bode well for Steam, does it?

I would buy it from Steam if they give me a coupon to purchase the box version at a discount.

I want Half-Life 2 in one of those flat DVD boxes, I like them.

I want to buy the bo9x, but dunno if I can be assed. If the steam way is reliable so I can just keep a password or summat to download my copy of hl2 again if I format or somthing. Then I will do it. Just burn it onto a CD. I can also see the download version costing less.

If HL2 is ONLY released via Steam on the 30th, I would buy it from there. Otherwise, I want the DVD edition :)

I think HL2 will be released for Steam and stores on the release, but if i would get it on Steam i wouldnt download it the first day, their servers probably wouldnt be able to handle all the persons downloading HL2 the first couple of days/weeks.

Does anyone know if it is cheaper via steam. They should make it like 39 instead of 49 or something. If its cheaper I will get it. Also Wont it be out sooner on steam. Because it will be availiable steam after it goes gold. And the rest will have to wait for it to be manufactured and shipped.

I have not heard that it will be available for Steam earlier, but i do know that it wont be cheaper on Steam.

def buy it with cd, box, manual, and all that. jus makes it seem official and safe it will work.

I'll most likely buy it on Steam aswell as in stores.

Erm, why?

I don't think it will let you. Judging by what Gabe said, as long as you go online with Half Life 2, Steam will know you have bought it. As a result, you can play it wherever, without the CD.

So I think buying it in Store is just the same as buying it on Steam, you just get the CD.

EDIT: This didn't make make much sense, sorry.

it depends for me

i dont have a dvd player in my comp so im afraid that the cd version will make me use 3 cds or something if i do have to use more than 1 cd i will probbably get it off steam
