Who's up for some COD 4?

If anyone is actually reading this thread who added my gamertag. Go on now.

I have on pc and always ready for a game. Usually go on Aussy servers though. Lvl 55 =D

Everyone is level 55 now :hmph:

Why can't we have prestige mode like the PS3 (possibly the 360 too?)

Also: Silenced Skorpion + Bandolier + Double Tap (or s.o.h) + Steady Aim (or martyrdom) -- FTW!

Anyone wanna go again tonight, same time?

Emporious, later on, would you be up for some Halo 3 campaign with those other folks we were playing with?

sure, ill probably be on COD4 most of the day, or gears of war.

I'll be on COD later tonight from about 7 ish till whenever. That's GMT, mind, but to put it simply I'll be lurking about online the same time as last night as well.

Wow, we had some pretty sweet games last night. Too bad Free man didn't join in until later.

Lol LazyBollix's blanket

Hell yeah. :D

Tonight i'll have to add your tags and join up as well. Just to warn you, i'm uber-newb material at the moment. :)

My tag is: hrvatski

Feel free to send a request while i'm at work.

I don't think I will be on tonight as a few of my mates will be on Halo and I kind of ditched them last night to play with you guys. I'll be on tomorrow, though.

dude,if your all doing campaign, I'll join you.

Bow: Nah, I'll be with some college mates.

Unfocused: Don't even go there, theres no need to let another thread burn out in some silly 'vs' argument.

FPS' on gamepads.

...

As an avid QWTF, TF, TFC, CS, DOD, UT series, etc player, I never thought I would enjoy an FPS on a console. Somehow though, I don't have a problem working with it in CoD 4. It's very intuitive and aiming is not that difficult with a controller.

COD4 has no autoaim. It's learn to use the weapons properly or die.

Actually, COD4 for the consoles does have autoaim both in singleplayer and multiplayer! :hmph:

If it does, it's the tiniest autoaim I have ever come across, because no matter what some manual or Wiki page might say (I don't know myself, I've never seen it written down that COD4 has any autoaim), it certainly doesn't feel like it in game. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it is in infact non-existant no matter what people do say.

Many a times I've missed right over the enemies shoulders in a firefight, and it's never a rare sight to see someone missing from metres away with a reall accurate gun (the M4, lets say)

Still, if it's an argument for people to be bitter about for the sake of things then let them have their fun.

for one CoD4(for the consoles atleast) have a head turning effect where when an enemy appears(the effect is best when their running) from the left or right side of your field of vision you get an head turning effect. It's not autoaim but it focuses your sights toward the enemy, so simply it's a dumbed down version of autoaim. Secondly steady aim can also be considered a dumbed down version of autoaim but, yet not quite. I have it set up with my MP5 and skorpion and ive gotten many many kills from a couple meters away without even directly looking into their direction.

Autoaim? Bleh. When your aim actually does track targets it's very minimal and fitting considering the limitations a controller has compared to a mouse. You can also snap to targets using the left trigger, but I have no problem with that. It's a semi-realistic war game, and snapping your aim to a target is something anyone can do with a real weapon anyways.

It does, but it's only very subtle. When you first aim down the sights, it will sometimes 'click' on to someone in your direct line of sight (only a few degrees either way of where you're aiming), which by itself is barely, if ever useful since people are mobile 95% of the time and when they're not they're probably camping and will likely pop you before you get a shot off. There's also a very slight aim "assist" for when you're trying to get a bead on someone who's on the move, but again this is barely ever actually useful by itself, only helpful.

The auto-aim in CoD is very well implemented - it's only meant to augment your own control, you would never get away with just relying on it to get kills. You need keen reflexes and a good grasp of the controls to really succeed. It's nothing like Halo 3 where your crosshair will basically just track a target for you.

Edit - Also, this isn't taking into account the fact that you need to compensate for recoil, and most of the time it won't be a one-shot kill unless you're in hardcore mode.

There is auto-aim.

I tried my friends ps3 version and I could clearly tell something was different than the PC version. I spotted it in the first minute..

It doesn't effect the gameplay in a bad way though.

btw, there were some good games last night, even though emporious sang "Make it rain" like 4 times lol.

I MISSED THAT!!

EMPORIOUS, YOUR SINGING TONIGHT TOO.

Frre Man, You up for it again?

Indeed, what autoaim there may be doesn't affect the gameplay at all. You can be on Team Hardcore (one shot kills, give or take) and someone can be looking right down the scope of his M4 at you and still miss. It's all about having your own control over the weapon.

Theres still a challenge in the shot, at least a helluva lot more than being spoon fed your accuracy via pin-point mouse accuracy. ;)

Well, tried logging on around midnight last night (after I got off from work), but my roommate seemed intent on using our tele. I'll try again tonight and see if you're on. :)

I've got a 23" LCD coming soon for my own room so that problem will be fixed. :

This is the truth. Perhaps i'm just very accustomed to using the mouse to aim, but I find it to be far more precise than any other control scheme. Aiming with a controller is proving difficult. :| And there's a very clear difference between the people who've got it down, and those who don't (moi).

Man, one thing that really pisses me the hell off with this game online is the damn air striking.

Christ, it's way too easy to get them.
They should bump up the number of kills required to 10 or 15.

There's practically a helo hovering above every map all the time.
There's bombing runs every 2 seconds.

So annoying.

Yeah, we had crazy game that used airstrikes to the max. It was hardcore Headquarters on Shipment. airstrike every 5 seconds, and there was always a heli in the sky.

Helis are pretty easy to take down, just switch to the Heavy Gunner kit for a minute or whatever custom class has a SAW/RPD and just empty the magazine on it relentlessly. The problem is is that no one can ever be arsed to bother taking them down sometimes, they'd rather try and get kills, when taking down a helicopter as soon as possible is pretty much essential.

I never have much problem with air strikes, but then I'm lone wolfing with my stealth classes most the time anyway so I'm hardly seen. I just played a round on Crossfire, though, where I racked up about 20 kills from 4 or 5 airstrikes. It's real easy to get them on that map because one team or the other is going to keep the other team pinned down in one of the hangers if they aren't organised, so all I had to do was drop them outside the hanger doors at the perimeter of enemies.
