Whose going to die? And where's Barney? O_o

According to the Eurogamer preview, it still seems that someone's going to die in Episode Two.

It might not be Alyx... or it might be. Just 'cause she's at your side doesn't mean she wont die. But then, it could be Mossman couldn't it? That statement by Eli "We shouldn't have let her go..." hints at a few things. Not that many people would be too sad if she died. That may be a good reason for her to be the victim of death; I don't think many of us would be fan-lovingly and emotionally affected enough to send hate mail if she's the one to go.

But then... where the hell is Barney? He hasn't been in any of the previews. Nor has he been mentioned in interviews [if he has i think i must be severely blind and deaf and dumb]. Is that a little sly or what? I'm suddenly kind of worried that they'll kill off Barney...which would suck 'cause he's one of the best characters in the game [plus he still owes you that damn beer! and we better get said beer by the end of it all!].

Any thoughts? I know this subjects been tackled before, but now seems like a good time to stack up all the evidence.
 
Eli dies:

1) Alyx will not die because the character is too emotionally attached to her.
2) Barney and Kleiner will not die because they provide comic relief.
3) Mossman will not die because that would be too obvious based on the trailer.
4) Eli dying will have a profound effect on Alyx thus providing a good curve in the storyline.
 
omg, youre right!! no barney in any ep2 previews. he still owes a beer!!
 
The last we saw him was on a train, leaving. Maybe he crashed to?

Agreed. Plus, it wouldn't be that tragic if Kliener died (though I'd be pissed at the combine - kliener is such a smart bumbling fool)
 
Alyx won't die, though I'm sure she will bump into many obstacles along the way that will see her incapacitated at various points.

Mossman won't die because she's going to have a large role to play in Episode 3.

Barney probably doesn't have a role in Episode 2. He's been fighting for a week, and that scene with him getting on the train is really a closure on him for now. I do not believe he will die in Episode 2.

I can see either Kleiner or Eli going.
 
I'm assuming Eli as well, which I'm sad about because I really like him a lot. It makes the most sense, though.

Barney can't die, because I have this hunch that the Half-Life storyline is going to end (in episode 3 or whatever beyond that) with Barney finally buying Gordon the beer... and Gordon might even say thanks.
 
i cant wait to meet magnusson ... i hope he has a sweet afro/male-pattern-baldness doo like the hl model.
 
I think it will be Eli. Although I will be annoyed the most if they kill Kleiner.
 
I really hope Barney doesn't die... and it's weird for me not seeing him in any of the trailers... and about the person who will be killed... its Colonel Cubbage (or not, but i hope to see him or Grigori again once)
 
Mossman seems most likely, Eli would have the most effect, and Dog would make me angry/sad!
 
but you never know, it MIGHT be the new character that dies, and depending on who it was, people would react differently. I think Barney reached wherever Alyx and Gordon were heading, just his train didn't get...derailed.

As for Eli being the one to go, it's quite possible. He's sick and weak in the video screen on Episode 1, PLUS, it would seem like a predictable storyline to have the leader of the resistance gone, and his daughter take his place.

Though seriously, my money's on Eli.
 
Kleiner (or Eli), this Magnusson guy is already there to replace him.
 
To those who may find their posts deleted: have some common sense. Lack of it will see you warned/banned in future.

Because of course, they'll just rebuild him later anyway.

Money is on Eli, but part of me thinks they'll be reluctant to kill off a character whose actor has such a great CV, especially after having killed Breen off. But then, killing such a character off ensures that they don't have to be around for sequels when the actor may be working on other projects...
 
1. Not Alyx - Previews show fake info to make players worry (you actually rescue her with gav gun)

2. Not Eli + Kleiner - Both are safe at outpost, working on missile (with vautagaunts protecting them)

3. Not Dog - Way to strong to be stopped

4. Not Mossman - Too important to storyline

5. Not Gordon - Wouldnt make sense

6. Not Breen - Hes dead

7. Maybe Barney - Doesnt show up in any Previews

8. Not Gman - We don't even know who he is

9. Maybe Odessa - Unknown if he makes an appearance

10. Maybe Combine Advisors - Some are show awakening from Pods

So, the main characters to die are Barney (dam beer), Odessa (who cares), or Combine Advisors (not even too important). My bet is on Odessa.
 
Oh yeh forgot abought Gregori, probally died in the Citadel Explosion :D
 
Do we know Eli to be safe? We've seen Kleiner working in the missile silo, and Kleiner/Eli together while watching the Mossman video, but those two aren't necessarily the same place. Also, I'm not sure Breen is dead - he's an interesting character, and they've dropped hints here and there. Cubbage is a possibility; he might be playing more of a role in this episode. I can't believe they'd give him a name and everything, bring him up again in Ep1, and then just drop the character entirely.
...Why would an Advisor die? Nobody would care. They're cool, but there's no personal attachment there at all.
 
Maybe Breen got teleported right before the citadel exploded, and will reveal himself at the end of ep 2...
 
I'm sure there's a fair few events to take place after White Forest. Meaning, you know, Eli/Kleiner/Magnusson aren't safe.
 
i think valve seriously needs to stop giving away spoilers to the game informing companies like ign, eurogamer ect. instead they should just make one more long gameplay vid. and silence these ppl..
 
Eli and Kliener are in the same place, at the rebel outpost, and if they died the missile wouldnt b completed and there would b no ep3. Breen is dead, at the end of Half life 2 watch when u blow up the fusion reactor, the orb hes in falls down and blows up.

After seeing the video, eli probably ventured out and got himself killed. Im betting eli.

Btw Breen is probably no dead, and will come back as a resource. Like mossman.

But its the informing comapnies job. If you do not want to be spoilt, don't read it. Simple.

Just stupid and whould make no sense. You watch from Gordons perspective all the time, and to die whould feel uncompleted.

What? Look down and you'll see his bubble glides softly down. After time is stopped (er, altered Samon) you don't see what happens to him. And I could easily survive that thanks to my bacon superpowers. Meat vision away! *flys away, leaving a trail of fat behind*
