I swear mine took like an hour, or an hour and a half to install.

that's weird, I installed in a matter of minutes

I'm going into town tomorrow to buy it. Then as soon as i'm back home on saturday or sunday i'm going to build a brand new pc for £1000.

Ive had a look what that budget can get me. I think this should do the trick:

AMD 64 3800
256mb ATI X1800XT PCI-E
2gb DDR Ram

And the rests pretty nice too, but you get the idea. :p

Only reason i'm not getting a 512 gfx card is so that I can upgrade for DX10 in a year or so. :)

I'm never going to have money to spend on anything like this ever again. So dont feel too bad.

And to be honest, I aint gona be a rich kid once I spend that grand! D:

Edit: Besides! I need an upgrade. I cant play darwinia at the moment! lol!

haha ok :D im well happy my pc will play oblivion ok, it'll last me i assume another year or so :)

no rush to buy me a new pc!!

My pc at homes fairly similar to yours actually. But I cant take that one to uni, so its utterly useless to me 90% of the year.

and another reason for buying this pc is that it will divert cash away from my drinking "problem" :stare:

Grrr... How did you get your copy early? Play.com posted it on Tuesday and it still hasn't got here. ;(

Gameplay - the latest i've ever got a game from them is on the day of release, often you get it the day before.

Got it. CE for PC. It's out everywhere in the Netherlands. Got my copy from Dynabyte.

Amazon.com says it was delivered "Mar 23, 2006, 02:26:00 PM" almost 4 hours ago

And it isn't here

Yeah I don't know what was up. Maybe cause my computer was on forever.

My brother installed it in a matter of minutes too. Qonfused can attest to how long mine took, I was talking to him on teamspeak the entire time I was doing it. Was driving me crazy, the length it took.

Yep. Mine took, like, 4 mintues to install, and here poor Raziaar is in the TS channel talking to me for an hour waiting for it to install while I tell him a bunch of stuff about the game. Oh, the torture.

got it today. I havent been on here all day because I was busy playing and dear..god..its...amazing. Im fighting in the gladiator arena now..leveled up twice already (lvl 5 now). This game just...rocks. The oblivion realm is just...wow. I especially loved that first little venture into oblivion, not gonna say too much, but that was epic.

this game is amazing

I need configuration settings info if anyone has found any yet.

I just bought and installed it, even though many websites said that my computer can't play it.

They were right!

Besides some squares during movies, it plays, but the character selection screen is all white, the menus are visible but the rest of the screen is white as paper... and playing the game is all white.. I can just barely see like a bench or something in the white-ness. I was walking around and punching something metal in my blindness pretty quickly so I think I might be able to get this game to work.

When I try to adjust the sliders for video settings and save it, Windows says "this program has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Since attempts to adjust the video sliders failed, I will continue to try to edit the config.

Supposedly My hardware config didn't support Doom 3 either, but by changing some of the nerdiest settings in the config it actually runs great. When I bought Doom 3 all the monsters/characters ... half their bodies were black. LIke right down the middle. The left side of their body was black.

So now with oblivion everything is white Im hopping there is something I can change that will fix it.

Wish me luck

Q: When I try to play Oblivion, all the menus are there, but everything else is white.

A: This will occur if you are attempting to run Oblivion on a PC with a video card that is not supported. Click here for a list of supported video cards

epp, nevermind. Must get new PC and New Video card to play. But. I have the game!!!!! I heard music .. and stuff!

:considers brother's PC as up for grabs:

I had no intention of getting this game. I didn't even know what it was until about three or four days ago. I decided what the hell. I got it from direct2drive. The first time I ever bought something from them. I downloaded it, unziped it, installed it and then it was time to activate the product.

"Sorry there was a problem activating your account. Please contact Customer Service."

AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

So now it's going on about 8 or so hours and I haven't heard anything yet. I'm sure it will be a day or two if I'm lucky.

Got it, 360.
Samon how is it on the 360?

I bet it runs like a dream or even better... those slider controls are just screaming for a gamepad with the laggy mouse pointer I have to ask why. I wonder could you use the arrow keys to navigate the slider madness that the character creation creates.

I installed it on my brothers computer. AMD 64 9500 512MB. Runs OK, little bit of issue with the framerate but he has really old ass drivers, the new ATI drivers should be all he needs... and some ram would really help too.

Looks fantastic in some areas and a little too much like morrowind in others. I love it love it love it though. 3RD person view owns.

Feels like it needs a patch but thats to be expected. But other tahn that its awesome. I particularly like the shaman staff you get in the first area.. but it runs out of charges.. can you recharge it?! I like the way that staff looks though!

Couple of small/med disapointments that are pretty easy to get over. It's a GREAT game. The areas where you have other soldiers with you fighting are ****ing SWEEEEEET.

I just got it today. And let me tell you the people that know me on this forum know im the last person to buy a game like this. But ya i took a risk got the colectors edition, now lets see if i like it.

Hey I think it installed so slow because I installed it to my M drive, an older 80 gig hard drive. Maybe because it has much slower RPMS and stuff...

would this cause the game to play slower, because its slower to access files and such?

Should I uninstall it and install it on my faster hard drive?

Because when I extracted the info into an iso file(from the CD) to use as a backup disk(to play with backup, instead of the actual CD), it extracted really really slow when I did it on the older drive... but like much faster when I did it on the newer drive.

I'm wondering if this will affect gameplay speeds.

Install your games on your fastest access speed drive! And you know this man!

The readme.txt suggests defraging before installing as well. This can take a long ass time and is probably why many don't do it.

My oblivion game is DVD format and it only took 6 minutes to install on a 1 month old hard drive thats never been defraged yet.

Well I constantly keep my disk drives defragged.

However... I wasnt thinking when I installed this older drive, that it might be slower speed. :-(

But what i'm asking, is does ti affect game performance THAT much? Like, could I expect stuttering to go down, and FPS to increase?

Runs superb, not a hicup. The controls are great, it looks great...no problems whatsoever, except during the beginning cutscenes where it kept jumping. But who cares when the game itself runs fluidly.

Yeah, it's pretty much flawless on the 360. Looks like a blurry mess on a SDTV unless you sit quite far away, though. Stunning on an HDTV, however.

Oblivion looks superb on the 360. Occasionally there's the odd skip and stutter outside, but that happens rarely. For the most part everything runs silky smooth. The joypad is also perfect for this game.

Oblivion was one of the main reasons I got a 360 early, and i'm glad i did, it rocks :)
