Gossett made the vortigaunts sound more like they were adapting to human speech. In his lines, he'd make sudden pauses, draw out certain sounds, all sorts of things like that. And his voice was appropriately gravelly for the vortigaunts.

I enjoy Tony Todd's rendition as well, but not as much. He makes the vortigaunts sound more in command of the language, less (no pun intended) alien. His voice also makes the vortigaunts seem younger to me.

he was probably busy making another 'left behind' movie
le sigh

Lou.

Although, I think both voices are too deep for the vorts.

I always pictured them talking in a high voice, similar to how they spoke in HL1.

(like how when they said "Die" they were in a very high voice)

Well, they were slaves back then. Check out Grunt speech in Halo, all squeaky.

I like to think that the new Vortigaunts are another tribe, compared to the scaly ones we saw before, with a smoother voice to match their smoother skin.

Tony Todd played a Klingon in a Star Trek game I'd played a few years ago, whenever I heard the Vortigaunt in ep 2 speak I saw the klingon Tony played saying the lines.

Lou's voice was awesome. I fell in love with it when I first eard his voice with the Vort in the train car during the Kanal sections.

Tony sounds very good, but it isn't quite the same.

I prefer Louis but Tony is a suitable replacement.

The original was much, much better.

If they mix them it will be fine.

dogg, he played worf's brother in tng

I like Tony Todd's better. It seemed like he got into the role a little more.

Louis, easily. I don't care much for the new Vorti voices.

I actually didnt realise they were different voices, asumed louis just changed his tone :p

I prefer Louis vortigaunt though, as said above seems more alien-ish.

Did Valve choose not to use Louis voice as to give the vorts some variation?

I honestly didn't notice that much of a difference. But if I had to choose, then Louis. Why did he leave anyway?

I didn't know they had changed the actor, the voice didn't seems any different to me.

He didn't leave, they simply wanted a new Vortigaunt voice becuase...they are different Vortigaunts. I suppose.

Eh, I didn't even mention a new voice with vortigaunts :D

And for me they are just updated vortigaunts, as the Advisors have now newer models and so. Didn't Xbox 360 version have Nova Prospekt grunts as shotgunners and the new vorties around?

I don't know why, but I love the Vortigaunt's voice from Tony Todd...
Yes, the voice of Louis was more alien like, but the new voice sounds more wise to me :)

Commentary - one of the nodes in the "defend the mine" bit - say he wasn't available for Ep2 work.

^ :upstare: ^
Valve should release a behind the scenes DVD with the vortigaunt auditions :cheese:

I didn't notice much of a difference in the speech of the vorts. I wasn't really paying attention to their voices, rather what they were saying. Both in Hl2 and Ep2 the voices were very good though.

Both actors did an admirable job, but I do prefer Gosset if given the choice.

Both left me positively tickled. I've always been a fan of Enemy Mine, and seeing Louis reprise his role in a way was indeed a treat. On the flip side, I've enjoyed Tony in his various voice-over roles and his work in various and sundry box office flicks and made-for-TV cheese-fests :)

New voice, sounds much better, i hated it when the old voice went weird nd just did his voice but sounding strangley gay...for example sometimes in the all-knowing vortys cave.

I much prefer the HL2 vorts, both the voice and the skin. I like my Vorts gritty, not smooth.

I actually laughed my ass off when he "called his kin" right after alyx is hurt.

I know quite a bunch of people who thought this part sounded horrible. Hmph.

Agreed.
I like both of them, but Ep.2 vorts seems pleasanter to me...

I actually quite liked it. Had a shiver run down my back when I heard it.

Even though they sound nothing like they did in HL1.

Hmm.. is it me or I heard the Vort talk in English while screaming? The last two lines were like... "Can you take us to the cave/mines?" "Suuuuuuuure (Shoooooooor)"

I'd like a hi-res version of the smooth Vort from HL2 Episode2 , using Louis' voice. I like my vorts gritty too, but they don't look so good gritty in HL2.
