Why an April 2004 delay is a GOOD thing... D:

If it certainly is true that only a third of the source is stolen (I hope thats true) then i believe that a delay to the game can only be a GOOD thing. Valve delaying the game to give them time to re code sections of the game to render the leaked code as useless will mean that online cheating will not be as rampant as it could possibly be had valve just released the game 'as is' to get it out of the door.

Fans of Multiplayer HL and its mods... Would you rather have the game now knowing that it will be full of cheaters to ruin your fun? Or would you prefer to wait for valve to recode part of the game to reduce cheaters to the occasional nuisance??

I would rather wait patiently for a better game and get on with my life than glue my eyeballs to my monitor screaming obcenaties at Valve for delaying. Just go make a cup or tea or something... Read a book... Go out to a club... Play football in the park... Pick your nose and eat the results... learn to ride a Unicycle... Go to the gym and get fit... Learn a foreign language... Flirt with members of the opposite sex... Anything so long as you are not bitching at Valve and the events of the past week...

Yes it is a good thing since of the size of this problem.. But think of it , the only ones to blame are the ****ing stupid asshole kiddo's who hacked the code and caused the game to be delayed.... Geesh I got a heart attack when i read that reuters.com article...

point well taken but i think that either way the game would have hacks.. its enivitable (dunno how to spell that lol). I think if the game is done they should release it and just work on a patch if needed, that would make everything much easier, and the source would there be nullified

It wont happen now, most definetly not, they'll rush it out the door with the new leak.

I feel real sorry for those who updated their comps -- looks like those guys could have saved more money or waited and paid the exact amount for better hardware.

Everything changes with the release of the resources. Delaying the game 6 months would be utter suicide for Valve now.

Cheat coding for a game is much harder without the source code... Read my post...

I was going to yell at you but that last part actually made me laugh and kind of inspired me :dork: :cheese:.

i read your post man, you are right that it is much harder without the source, but either way its going to happen. that what VAC is for... it would be much easier for them to patch things then go through the entire code again, this game has been in the process for how long now 5 years? you think they can go over that code and redo it in 6 months? come on now.

btw matt how is your sister and her baby doing m8 ???

She's doing fine... The baby's home and still on a ventilator and will probably need an inhaler for the rest of his life though :(

phew  now i can finally sleep in peace :bounce:

Bah 'know what..
at the rate the source-compiler people are going, there will be enough content created for a fun source-engine online experience by christmas..
Valve is definately making a mistake by not getting hl2 out by christmas.
not only will they miss the huge sales season, but it just fuels the upheaval of the community which is right now showing concern.. but undoubtably will soon turn to bitterness. Redarless of where their anger is directed.. the negative "ora" around hl2 will only grow the longer they wait.. this will effect sales further and more so then an often patched but sooner relased version.

GET the damn game out, patch it during those 6 months.
use your time wisely.. start getting some income to support the re-writing of the code, and to boost the morale of the guys at valve, jesus christ we know they deserve it@!

Man, it is so hard to see it as a good thing... In fact it's really hard. I don't see any goodness. The best thing to do in my opinion is to just worry about other things and leave halflife2 alone for a while. I need to quit this drug while I can.

this just means more time to play MP2, Deus Ex 2, Doom 3, Call of Duty ...

Yay! I upgraded last month for no reason, when I could of waited til April and got an even better machine for the same money! Hurrah for valve!

Nah, cheats have run rampant with CS forever, and Valve has never made it a priority to prevent them. They've always kinda given a half-ass attempt to fix them. I think this delay is like shooting themselves in the foot, especially with a beta out there now. Hardly anyone will bother to wait and buy the game if you can play it 6 months before it's out.

-Man I feel for you. I know so many people that have spent money they won't have in six months on hardware for this release. Seems just a tad bit unfair in my opinion, but obviously our opinions don't matter because Valve still won't release hl2. Figures :dozey:

From something i just wrote up on my site...
Again, this is unconfirmed, but may be true. In our opinions, a signficant delay such as this one would be a bad move on the part of Valve/Vivendi. There are a number of new games coming out that are essentially a new generation of games. The games include Half-Life 2, Max Payne 2, Deus Ex 2, and Doom 3. Half-Life 2 was originally supposed to be the first of these games to be released, but it seems to be slowly slipping back to the end of the pack. This is a serious loss of initiative for Valve/Vivendi.
