I never thought this would happen, but I am having more fun playing with the CS:S bots than with humans. Since the BOT release I have played more CS:S than I have since HL2 was released (I played a bit before HL2 came out, but only once or twice a week since then).

Here is my personal reasons for liking the bots better than humans:

1) Bots do not cuss.
2) Bots do not spray porn sprays.
3) Bots do not intentionally TK.
4) Bots do not intentionally Flashbang you at the beginning of every round.
5) You can make the bots not carry weapons they are not good at (they seem to TK a bit on easy with grenades)
6) Bots have great ping and so do you.
7) Bots are not hackers--no speed, wall, or aim hacks. Well, they DO, but at least they do not act like it ;)
8) Bots give me a chance to learn new maps with a modest challenge.
9) With bots I can "goof off" and go 10-on-1 against Easy Bots.
10) With bots I can adjust their skill level to push me without (a) being too easy so I do not get better or (b) being too hard where they wax the floor with me.
11) Bots give me a chance to test out more weapons and learn to snipe (as a team player I never wanted to hurt my team by learning a totally new skill).
12) You can make bots play as a team. Or not.
13) Bots vary their routes and strategies.
14) You can fill up a server with a good ping at any time.
15) You can put the correct number of people on a server for the map size.
15) The teams are always balanced how you like--no 15 on 7.
16) Bots are great for helping your new friends learn the game (just put them on easy with only pistols!)
17) Bots do not recruit for their clan on your server.
18) Bots do not tell you how much better they are than you.
19) Bots do not sing over the mic.
20) Bots Compliment you on a job well done.
21) Bots try to plant the bomb and try to defuse the bomb.
22) Bots do not suck! Not as good as good players, but much better AI than games like BF1942 and Doom 3 and in some ways the AI is tougher than the HL2 AI (different design though so not fair to compare).

Bots have allowed me to practice a lot more and learn the maps, weapons, and techiques a lot faster. And it has been a lot of fun.

Hopefully more is added to the bots soon. I want to see the ability to customize each bot like in Perfect Dark/TimeSplitters. e.g. have different personalities (camper, rusher, sniper, etc...) and each different abilities (easy, medium, hard, expert). Doing this through a GUI would also be VERY nice. Also a better team setup screen would be much nicer. Right now I just start a map, disable autobalance and limitteams to whatever I want and then manually add the bots.

Anyhow, I KNOW there are a lot of reasons humans are better but I do not think the bots are bad--actually the opposite. Valve doing things like this make the game MUCH better.

Now it is your turn to add on to my list for reasons YOU like the bots!

some are anti-social but most of the time they WILL cover you,

they WILL try to provide backup when you are under fire,etc...

unlike most humans who just keep knifing the walls or corpse-humping

instead of planting, covering, whatever they SHOULD be doing..

Actually that's kind of sad, usually it's reversed in games.

Online play used to be about getting away from the 'straightforward' AI and play with teamwork.. now bots are used to get just that..

AI bots are indeed a challenge and I really love them, plus you can load in custom maps (well most, you can't have glass floors :p ) and they instantly know the map, that way if you need to playtest your map, just load in a bunch of bots and let them loose... Of course human playtesting is best, but for early testing with no graphical goodies, teh bots won't complain! ;)

I am currently doing that with my map! Using bots, I have discovered that they just jump off CT spawn and lose most of their health - I need barriers to stop them doing that.

T's also get stuck in some places, meaning I must sort that out before I can carry on doign extra work.

Bots are very cool playtesters!

23) Bots actually LISTEN when you want to do pistol or knives only.
24) Bots stick together.
25) Bots do not whine "teams plz" and distribute themselves equally over the teams.
26) Bots won't complain if YOU want to play a specific map for hours and hours instead of little Billy's fullbright 'huge-fcking-cube' map that made it onto the intraweb in some sort of way
27) Bots don't talk about how CS 'used to be so much better'.

Bots > Humans

Now all we need are Humans vs Bots servers to see whos better :D

whats a big flaw in the bots? oh yeah, theyre bots.
..
..
and they can get quite annoying, the voices i mean.

You can tone down the radio chatter with one of the option when making a server (I don't know what the command would be).

The one major reason I like bots over humans is bot_kill, no more death wait.

Bots > Humans

Some great points guys. I would add them to my list if I could edit the first post. I wonder, can we get 100 valid points of why Bots are better than pubbie CSS servers? I would say we have about 35-40 reasons, another 60 to go!

Ps- I can think of relatively few reasons why I like humans better. I like playing with my friends a lot, but when they are not here to play with I do not even consider playing with humans anymore... kind of sad. I am an online game nut, but when the bots are more fun to play with, well, that says a lot about the community. Makes you appreciate games like Forgotten Hope for BF1942 which has a great team-first community.

Again, want to thank Valve for the great support and making such a great product!

i gotta disagree with you on just about every point there....

pwning software will never be as satsifying as besting your fellow man

True... but how many our "fellow men" intentionally tk their own teammates? Or do not work as a team? Or act lewd on a server? As much fun as it is to challenge your fellow man, it is equally frustrating to have your fellow man do everything in his power to defeat the objective of the game and to attract attention.

Bots don't do that ;) I prefer the challenge of humans... but when other players are tking, flashbanging their own mates, ignoring the objectives, HACKING, being lewd, and so forth, well, I think that can outweigh the fun of playing a human. Often times I feel like I am playing subhumans with some of the garbage that is said, typed, and sprayed.

Another reason: Bots do not go AFK, only be be a cheap kill at the spawn zone.

If people are being assholes on one server, just leave and go to another one if it really gets to you. Believe it or not, there are a lot of servers out there that will kick/ban you for that kind of thing. And actually go through with it.

Bots bore me. There's no satisfaction in winning against bots, and losing to them is just frustrating. Like I said elsewhere on these forums today, I'll take even a noob over a bot nine times out of ten.

Someone wishes they lived in the world of I, Robot haha
and what....you dont like my singing over my mic? :(

You can disagree all you want, but you must be one of the people he was insulting in that list. Bots are great if you just want to sit down and play. No lag, no bs, No 12 year olds making loud obnoxious voices over the mic, No kids flashbanging u on purpose then calling you a "fux0ring f4gg0t a55 n00b" for missing the kill. It can be quite peaceful

the bots are really effective.. even on easy (but they lack reaction speed on easy). They are quick to support me.

29) You don't have to download those irritating sounds when you want to join a server.

30) You don't wan't to kill the bots in real life after they killed you a few times.

If I was admin on a server, I'd kick everyone that wasn't behaving like a proper T/CT ;)

31) Bots wont suddently disconnect (unless ur machine crashes) and leave you outgunned - Yeah I know this has sorta been posted but so has others. ;o)

Nothing can beat playing against real people, but its nice to train against bots or just if ur having trouble finding a BS free server with no lag.

33) Bots don't have wack and annoying names like "-({[3Y3 T!3]})-"
or Ripened Fetus Cake

Bots are generally smarter and more polite than the average CS player ;)

WHY bots suck...

Bots have no personality and it just feels wierd to play "multiplayer" when those other players are just ****ed up computer minds...

Yeh generally the average CS player has a ****ed up human mind - They all seem to leave when you kill them, or start spamming "n00b GTFO DROP THE N00BIE GUN" when I'm using and M4 :|

Or retarded people singing down the microphone (I know you can mute them), as well as just plain twats who run around TK'ing every round :|

Bots>Humans

no 29)

so funkin true,i never even hear these sounds anyway

I thought that their level of comminucation is amazing......I love playing with them and they make for great practice learning de_tides and other maps im not to cool on yet.

One small downside: On slower comps they kill FPS as the AI eats up CPU clock time like a starved tiger in a butchershop.....but as long as you have 512 DDR and and say a P4 2.6ghz or AMD 2800 you should be okay.

Acert93 prefer having sex with sex slaved robots than real humans o_O

Honestly unlike computer players. Human players will always play beyond the confined of the game. Computers only play what they are set (like rules)

Hardly, they camp and plant the bomb at tricky locations. They also try to knife you if their odds are good and will shoot stuff for fun like the pc's and monitors in office.

I f*cking hate that. "Just join a different server n00b!"
Well, I join, and then I see Steam is downloading some sounds, I think "ah can't last that long" after a minute or two I think "if I leave now, I downloaded that shit for nothing, I might be close to being done, so better hang on for a minute" and then, 15 minutes later I've joined. Gawd, I must have at the very least, 20 million random Simpsons sounds on my pc with cs1.6, hasn't yet happened with CSS though.

I can see it both ways. The "keyboard comandos" who talk all that trash and have no respect for anyone else playing are the reason why people like to take time out to play with the bots.

With bots, there is:

1. No bitching about the balance.
2. No caps-lock junkies saying 'OMG!"! N00b GUn a$$FkER'
3. No animated genitalia adorning the walls.
4. No names like 'I M TEH N00BKILLER'
5. No people who never let go of the mic button.
6. No-one spamming 'Go Go Go' when you're trying to be stealthy.
7. No-one 'answering the phone' or 'going to the toilet'.
8. No whiny-ass n00b bitches.
9. No people who have no clue how to plant/defuse the bomb.
10. No lololololololololololol-ing.
11. Nobody laughing their asses off at you.
12. No profanity.
13. No hacking.
14. No accusations of hacking.
15. No comments ending in 'your mum'.
16. Nobody asking if you can hear them.
17. Nobody giving away the plan by using the wrong chat key.
18. Nobody ignoring the plan and going Rambo.
19. Nobody following you and running when you walk.
20. Nobody recreating gay porn with the ragdoll physics.

So it's heaven! And yes, im aware that Jabberwock heaven is a barren world, populated by myself and an army of robots whose behaivour I control. Its still great.

Bots > Humans > Pond Scum > People with names like A$$RaPeRBIATCH

That's all fine and good half the time, but bots don't comfort you when you are down. Bots don't push you to be better. Bots don't show you the better strategy. Bots can't make you laugh. Bots aren't affected by your trash talking. Bots aren't competitive. Owning a bot gets no respect from the other bots.

So, there are some good things about having humans around too. Plus, it's not that the bots suck, it's that there is a ceiling to their abilities, a ceiling breached by humans. You'll never be the best until you play the best, and they aren't bots.

I love playing other people. But your examples are exactly why bots are fun.

-Most CS players do not comfort you when you are down. Instead they spam nasty derogitory comments.
-Most CS players do not make me laugh; they make me want to disconnect from the game and go play another team based game.
-I don't trash talk ;)
-Bots are good enough on Expert to push me right now. They may not push everyone but they are a good challenge for me. And I have learned to be a quick shot by having 10-on-1 odds. So you can make it push you ;)
-I don't need to get bots respect--I just play to have fun.

But I do not totally disagree. I have played with a lot of great people online. But I have discovered finding well admined servers hard. I can find a BF1942 server that does not allow cussing, racist comments, sexuall explicit talk/material, etc... very easily most nights. And if you look a bit you can find servers with a lot of teamwork.

My personal experience has been it has been very difficult to find servers with low pings that meet these criteria. They do exist, but every game is good with Bots. They always play as a team and they can be a challenge for me on high settings with large odds.

Finding other people to play with who do not do the many annoying things mentioned in this thread is hard. I was on today... tking, singing in the Mic (what is up with that?!), porn sprays, admins ignoring the rules, hackers, teammates knife fighting eachother while you are trying to defend the bomb. After 30 minutes of that I was done with humands for the day! At least the Bots were trying to achieve the objectives and followed my server rules without complaint ;)

And with 3 friends on a LAN (hopefully 5 tonight if I can get my Linksys router situation resolved) bots can fill out a server nicely :)

Mature Humans > Bots > Immature Humans.

But that is me of course :) Zelnaga proves my point:

Acert93 prefer having sex with sex slaved robots than real humans o_O

hmmm - i think you missed that bots never accuse you of cheating no matter how much you beat them by :p
