Why cant game companies do this to prevent games from being sold early...

Just like it happened with Halo 2, people got the game early either from an insider of a stock room in a large store, or a minor store, such as Meijers who sold Halo 2 early. I think the companies should put some kind of device or something on the boxes of the games, so that they cannot be opened before a specfic time. I just read a post about shacknews and how they said a few people have HL2 early, and they sparked me to make this topic. You guys think this is a good idea?

Or what, it'll explode? Or do you think game boxes should be bomb proof?

Ooh, I have a better idea.

How about they require online authentification, so that if people buy it early, they can't play it anyways!

I like this idea better.

besides haveing some divice would cost more $$$

but what if its a console game? then they cant verify it online with a patch....and about the bomb thing, how about it contacts the game companies and lets them know it was opened too early? some sort of cell phone kinda device that relays a message when the box is opened....

That's be VERY expensive to do. And i don't think its that serious a problem that like a dozen people get the game a few days early. WOW they played it before me, BIG DEAL!

Anyway. they can't play Half-Life 2 because it has to be activated by steam.

Yeah I wouldn't mind paying an extra $100 per game for that.

usually only big companies have to worry about these things, so they should be able to pay for it. and only a few people playing it early, thats enough for the companies to sue walmart and other stores who break the street date....its been done plenty of times before...

I misread that and thought you said the box should explode when u open it to early, i was pictureing hundreds of terrorists running into shopping malls with copies of HL2 and suddenly opening them.

They dont Want, to prevent them from being sold early, becuase then people rush to the stores in hope of getting one, therefore more sales and happy retailers. The real brillance comes from the fact that Valve can prevent people from playing the game until the official date, so tadum, everyone is happy except for the person who is trying to get ahead of the game, and they technically dont get screwed because they arent even supposed to have the game and end up getting the same kind of feeling that Steam buyers will have at 12:00 PST Nov 16.

LMAO  (this is definitely the best mental image all day, AND, all the more reason to by from steam -- I don wanna asplode!)

your starting to make me scared of opening any new game boxes :X

At first i thought this idea was stupid. Now after pondering for a few minutes i think it's absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

What would be the punishment for trying to open the box with a....pair of scissors before your million dollar advanced mobile sensory technology unlocks it for you? Would the game cd disintergrate? Would the local law enforcement agencies be automatically contacted and police track down your position via a global positioning satellite system integrated into the box?

The online authentication is enough.

Yeah, but its HALFLIFE 2 in that box! Come on, you know you want to open it... Are you gonna let a little burn and some shrapnel stop you from getting to your HL2!!

man, don't get tattoos until you're over 18
or don't post stupid ideas like that unless ur under 12

Why would they even care that some people have it early? It's not really costing them money, unless someone pirates it. Which would happen anyway, even if it was released on time.
