This enables people with bad computers run hl2, or very good computers to run hl2 at really good settings. Can you ajust settings in hl2 or will it be 32bit or 16bit and the screen resolutions?

hl2 doesnt have an options menu now?

interesting...

No I saw the beta and it just has 32 or 16 bit and the resolution, but im guessing that's the just the beta so I don't know.

ITS NOT A BETA FOR CHRISTS SAKE /rant

its a leak, there are tens of thousands of files that are missing from that build, and that build is almost a year old. sorry u didnt get to adjust ur hdr settings. ::rolleyes::

I think HL2 will support a lot of graphical adjustments. It's pretty well known though that Gabe said at some stage that it HL2 automatically adjust the game's graphics according to your system specs. It's unknown weather this means that it's not adjustable. I could be wrong.

Okay thanks, I just really liked Max Payne 2's graphical ajustments and am hoping that hl2's will be similar.

The stolen build is older than a year old.. atleast, the content is

Anyhow, HL2's LOD is dynamic (adjusts settings to compensate for FPS on the fly), last I checked. Which should make it far better than MP2's graphical settings (even though MP2 runs great on almost every system I've ever tried it on)

Shift-f1....put on wireframe mode. Then it'll run better!

Alt F4, exit the game, your FPS will sky rocket! ;) :D

I also are worried sbout how HL2 will look in my pc
even I had try to download the beta to see how looks, but of course I could'nt
but I see that there still hope about how will looks HL2 in my pc

Personally, I doubt that they will have any options other than 32bit/16bit... prolly won't even have an option for that. It seems as though Valve wants an even playing field between everyone, and that means making pre-defined settings for certain levels of hardware, along with the on-the-fly LOD settings.

I have nothing to back this up, but its just a hunch.

No sir. I'm positive somewhere in the VALVe Info thread it was mentioned you can change settings, and that the dynamic LOD can be disabled through the options menu.

Besides, even if that was true, the configs could still be manually edited.. there's no stopping AMD 64 people with X800's from putting everything on low settings for possibly higher visibility (some people do this with FC :|), even if there are no options in the menu

i have a hard time beleiving that anything will run better than max payne2, i mean, i'm equiped with an fx 5200 and i ran the game with 2x aa, and everything else high, and absolutley no frame rate issues.....unbelievable

When I had a Duron 1 ghz with a GeForce 4 MX440 I could run max payne 2 on 1024x768 with everything set to max. That was an awesome game, it should've been better recieved by people.

what really affects the playability for a wide range of systems for a game?

what did max payne2 do that far cry didn't?

I think there are a few factors. One is FC's engine is alot more future ready than MP/2's engine is.. FC's not even using everything it can support

Furthermore, FC's got alot more, graphically, than MP2.. even though MP2 looks great, it's still running on the MP engine. Oddly enough, MP2 runs better than MP.. aahhh, conspiracy!

mp2's running on mp1 engine???
wow, the developers techniques for graphics must have seriously improved or something..b/c that's a really big surprise to me

Last I checked, it is. It's just improved (if you compare the two games, they're almost identical, except MP2 just looks like an improved version overall).. someone correct me on this if I'm wrong

Wait a minute..didn't MP use the MAX FX engine or whatever it was called, and MP2 used the Havoc engine? or did the engine from MP merge into MP2?

Havok isn't a game engine. It's a physics engine (for lack of better terms), which can only be used when coupled with an actual game engine.

when a game uses the havoc engine, what they're saying is that the part of the engine useing physics is based on havoc technology

ah ok, that makes sense. So then is it true that with the Source engine, it uses a heavily modified version of havok? or did I dream that somewhere...?

'Tis true, MP2 engine is nothing more than a upgraded MP engine. Remedy did a nice job graphically for a game series that was announced about 7 years ago.

no .... its a beta...

ITS NOT A BETA.
A BETA IS LEGAL
--------------------------------
Beta means: the 2nd letter of the Greek alphabet
Muahahha!
--------------------------------
its a leaked copy of the game.
It is ILLEGAL.
If Valve released the version on the net with open arms etc...then it would be a beta. But they didn't.
WoW is a closed beta. blizzard released it..people got a disk\dled it got a cd key. And got to play it legally and fully.
Plus HL2 is made to run on low systems and highend systems dont you know the minimum sys. requirments?
what was it...
1ghz
256megs of ram..
a Dx7 video card.. err was it dx 6?

serioulsy cmon folks! pull it togeather! Im stupid and if im smarter then that you what does that make u!

It's not even a leaked copy of the game. It was incomplete and cobbled together.

Betas aren't necessarily legal, but they are an actual build that is near completion. They're meant to be played. They aren't cobbled together by some moron hacker who, in order to get a few kicks, has now added a lot of security time to developing ALL popular games.

The Doom3 alpha for example is not legal, but it's not AS big a deal because it was a build that was meant to be used by developers, and there was no source code theft. It was leaked, not stolen.

The HL2 stolen build however, was not a build when it was stolen. It was just partial source code, and partial data files that the idiot hacker stole. (May he rot in jail now that he's been caught.) The hacker created the build people insist on calling a leaked beta (when in fact, it was neither beta nor leaked).

As for the topic of this thread, it's based on an assumption that is:
1) based off the stolen build
2) likely incorrect

My guess is the thread will be closed as soon as the mods wake up.

Very true - this is the same Max FX engine. Slightly modified though.

Also, MP 2 doesn't use all the new tricks in the book like normal maps/bump maps stuff that really eats the processing power of the video card. Remedy is a good developing team so they made things optimized for very low end cards too.

True lans. MP2 surely rocks. I could run it great with a 2400+ & a GF3 TI200 (high detail, no AA).

Now i have my 9800pro, i can run MP2 at high detail & highest FSAA & best anisotropic and i still get 110fps. amazing.

Max Payne's graphical adjustments didn't really matter much, you cuold tweak all you wanted, you'd have the about the same result :(

The Max Payne 2 version of the engine was really good, it actully ran faster and more efficiently than the first one. My only problem with mp2 was why the bodies on Mp2 didn't pile up on each other instead they mixed together. Its looked silly.

Huh? ummno have you ever used the console in HL? or farcry? or any game for that matter?

You don't need an options menu if you have a console.

But that's besides the point, I'm sure they'll let you customize video settings a bit through a menu like usual.

Off topic and leak talk, a good time to close.
