So I was at the bottom of the ladder to enter ravenholm and it is locked up. Having just gotten the grav gun and having a room full of boxes at my disposal, I figured I needed to stack boxes to get up the ladder.

After 30-40 minutes of trying to stack boxes on the uneven elevatorshaft floor I'm finally up. But whats this I can't climb the ladder?

Apperently all I need to do was break the lock. They must have setup some sort of entity so the ladder doesn;'t function until the lock is broken. But I don't see what was wrong with my method, I should have been able to climb the ladder.

Oh well, one minor problem in an awesome game. (btw after stacking hte boxes it took me 20 minutes to find out I neededto break a lock. Wow i'm blind)

there are many things like thise in the whole game.
its called linearity ...

VALVe gave us plenty of thinking puzzles. You shoot the lock, and a cage door opens. It was apparently one of those cages that keep people from climbing it, like you see at fast food joints...

Correct, but by stacking all those boxes I got to the ladder just the same as everyone else. Except it doesn't work liek a ladder unless you shoot the lock. I know some things are done for sake of the game (ei. keep you going forward and not off the map), but this is where I was SUPPOSED to go. I think that the ladder should have worked even though I did not break the lock. I still solved the "puzzle", my method may have differed from yours, but in the end the result should have been the same.

Like I said before the game is the best game I have ever played. This is more of a question than a complaint.

I did something similar in the airboat level - there's one part where you have to shoot some barrels to get under the dock then over a jump. I skipped the barrels, (there's some rubble I hit that you can use as a jump. I found it when frantically trying to avoid the rocket launchers) then got very frustrated when I was incapable of making the jump due to an invisible wall.

Kinda annoying, yeah, but I guess I can see why they did it.
