Why do some people complain that a band's stuff is all the same. Some bands have a defined style for a certain album but they change it for the next album. I mean really, can you show me a band where every song is completely different than the last. If you enjoy a band does it really matter if their songs sound similar?

Eh it just bugs me how people get so bitchy about music. They are like oh they are not "original" or my view rocks because this guitarist is blah and the others are shit. Damn so picky, if some one has musical talent just acknowledge it for what they are, you don't need to like them but there is no need to be such an asshole.

Is this just a ''random'' (urgh, hate the word) outburst of a rant, or is it somewhat linked to my 'mini-rant' in the guitarist thread? What can I say? I dislike boring music. I respect guitarists like Vai and Batio for their talent, but playing as fast ad you can, adding some effects and overusing tapping and shredding... it just bores me. Albiet, alot of bands are going to sound the same, but some just take it to 'extremes', if you will.

If you like a band regardless of the songs being samey thats fine, but I like to look for something different each time. It is, agreeably, hard to find this sometimes, but after a while, that samey sounding riff or bassline that gets used over and over and over again just bores into me and slowly, the album starts to get un-listened to. Funnily enough, I've stopped listening to alot of metal that I use to listen to now.

It's all good. Sometimes I prefer it when a band has a lot of very similar songs. When I buy their CD, I'll be getting more than one or two hits, and can comfortably listen to the entire CD without being emotionally jerked around. I also like variety, but if an artist only has one or two good songs out of a career of seven albums, I'll probably acquire them from a friend.

A truly great artist can never overdo it or be repetitive, since their original formula rules so hard in the first place.
