I checked the BIOS settings as soon as this happened and the CPU temp was 59 degrees, far below the 'critical' temp of 85-90 degrees.

What could have happened?

Could be a memory leak, or any number of things. Post your system specs so we can get a better idea. Also has it happened since? Might have been a one-off-thing.

yeah, post your specs m8
could be many things that cause these kinda problems... like overheating graphics card (if you have a fan on your card, check that it's spinning)

yea same problem here

im getting the same problem when i play cs, but my comp restarts after playing like 3 minutes of it. My specs as follows.
and if i need to boot into bios, how do i do that?

i would take the 256 stick out because 1 gig and a 256 is a bad combo

Your intergrated graphics are no good for HL2 games sadly. I'm surprised you have the game running, good job. However you must be leniant with your settings so your computer doesn't have to work so hard. Overheating is the most likely cause of your problem, therefore turn down some settings, or find a tweak guide to decrease them even moreso to enable the game to run flawlessly for you.

mine did that once, went to a blue screen then restarted.....im not completely sure it wasnt someone messing with my pc....bastards

I had that before, it's a stop error, just windows update, that solved it for me.

Right click "My Computer" >> Click Properties >> Click "Advanced" tab >> Click "Settings" under "Startup and Recover" heading >> Under "System Failure" heading uncheck "Automatically Restart".

This will allow you to see the "blue screen" when your computer crashes. Note what the error message says on the blue screen and come back and post it.

Also if you want good gaming performance and are running XP, try shoving the desktop quality to classic (Rigth click the desktop and click properties). The XP taskbar does silly things like use RAM, so it could help.
