Why do games make some people ill?

Unlike most other games HL2 has a default FOV of 75 as opposed to 90. So it's like running around with tunnel vision. you can change it thru the console (I think).

Of course, games make some people ill even when no one is playing them

The facial animations and the eyes particularly are better done in Half-Life 2 than in Fear, it's more realistic from that stand-point. Fear suffers slightly from plastic looking characters, like your fighting with action figures. Half-Life 2 on the other hand doesn't look plastic.

bingo, I have this problem with HL2 and any other game that uses a low FOV. Upping the FOV fixes the problem entirely for me.

My dad and I used to play FPSs over our LAN, and he had to stop once the graphics in these games got good enough to UT2k3's level, because he started getting sick.

Reading on Wikipedia, there have been a lot of reported motion sickness problems, and it is strongly related to the field of view angle. In particular, many people tend to get motion sickness while driving the airboat because the game uses a different FOV when you are in it.

I personally have never once in my life gotten motion sickness, and I'm glad for that.

Me too.... i never got motion sickness after playing from chapter 1-black mesa east.
