Why do you think HL2 was pushed back?

First off, great forums you guys got here. Im sorry to make this my opening thread, I don't want to bring any negativity to the community, but I think we can all agree that were pissed off by the recent chain of events surrounding the whole HL2 release date farce.

If they held it back because they want to get the game absolutely spot on, then fair enough, I commend them for that. But, if that was the case then why dont the guys at Valve make a public announcement explaining to the fans the reason why they're holding back after maintaining the game would be released right up until yesterday, and even at that its still pretty vague. They were asked a mere 10 days ago if the rumours of a delay were true and they denied it... so if they were so confident that it would hit the deadline why has it been delayed?

I'll tell what I think. I think Nvidia have been having a nervous breakdown over the recent benchmarking revelations by Valve and they've somehow managed to get the game held back until they get their act together.

Whats your opinions on this, would you be surprised if halflife2 was sitting ready to go gold but Nvidia but the blockers on it, I know I wouldn't.

:flame:

Marketing between Vivendi and ATI, that's the most logical reason. I doubt nVidia has any say, it's not Valve's problem.

Cause the game isn't done yet, meaning they still need to playtest more.

Also I think it's funny that everyone is coming up with their own theory for the delay. I can tell you right now that Nvidia wasn't the reason, though.

All of the above, no fries and a large coke please.

The game is done, I would be willing to bet $100 that it is done. And if you say if there are bugs, no crap, no game will ever be perfect. But I seriously think the game could be released and be very playable. I seriously believe this delay is all about marketing issues.

I was thinking the same thing today.

It would be a mixture of pressure from ATI and Vivendi. If you think about it there has been no advertising whatsoever. Vivendi wouldn't be happy about that.

Also with bugs in Steam. I guess Valve really want this Steam bug free and you have to admit right now it's buggy. Not a good program to use currently to release the game of the year is it?

1)Steam isn't ready or...
2) Some odd marketing scheme by Valve or Vivendi

they have been playtesting for a while now

and well

it is a pretty big game...

but still they should have plenty of playtesters...

I think they want to just muck around while we suffer ;)

Exactly, The delay is actually the best move possible, it was just communication breakdown that occured when they realised that the 30th was not possible is very dissapointing, they should have said it the moment they realised.
I'm sure they didn't realise it when the release was sent as it's been going on far too long for that.

Now Ati get to release the XT the way they wanted, Vivendi can start to wind up production and advertising while Valve get to finish up bringing steam up to scratch as well as doing whatever else they might need doing.

The amount of people who went overboard because they bought a brand new system just to play the game was staggering.
It's entirely justified, I know I'd feel cheated if I'd have done the same thing, but the activity of the community has also been just as bad as Valve's recent events.

The HL2.net vs PHL fight was heated and passionate, but ultimately foolish and pointless.
PHL has actually come out of this the winner and we know it, and whether or not the recent hl2.net activity is a backlash of that event, is something for another debate.

1. Steam
2. Marketing Ploy
3. If the game is not done, well then thats total fooking bullspit, because my friends, they said that they did most of the code, ALSO this game has been in development for 5 years, thus i think they would be somewhat ready
4. Marketing Ploy
5. Internal Problem sprung up at the last second

personally i think it was steam, i bet the 22th they loaded it up on steam, CRASH!

:Gabe: "Well then........................"
