OK, i have had my new computer under a month but it has only started happening in the last 3 days.

Firstly it did it in the middle of a BF2 game. The sound just randomly stopped and there was silence. I exited the game. powered off my computer, booted it back up and there was still no sound.
But, i went away for like 2 days, and when i came back the sounds was back on.

It happened again this morning when my sister was on the computer playing some random flash games online.

My sound is on-board 8-channel sound. My motherboard is an Asus A8n-Sli (Full spec here...)

Now, i don't think the on-board sound has died because, one, it came back on while i was away. And two, whenever i unplug the speakers, and plug them back in. The speakers give out two short beeps, which is the software that came with the motherboard saying that it has detected them.

I haven't updated my BIOS or motherboard since i got it. Should i? If so, could you please tell me how.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT: Ok, i fixed it. it seems my media keyboard is messing up, random keys (like caps lock and up arrow) doing random things. I fixed it now though.

But i wouldnt mind how to update my motherboard.

mods, close if you wish.

I wouldn't do a bios update. If it isn't broke then don't worry. Things like that you should only do if you ARE having issues so you don't create more. ;)

Ok. I get what you're saying. :)

Thanks, Asus.

I know this is a bump, but i think its better then making a new thread.

Anyway.
My sound really has "died" this time. It wont play sounds anywhere, in games, media players. BUT it does play the windows logon sound (when i log onto the computer)

I've tried everything i can think of to get the sound back, but it aint comming back. Anyone got any ideas?

It's killing me, it's too quiet!!

Nobody got any ideas? This is really annoying.

Have you tried uninstalling the sound card/drives and reinstall with the latest drivers online from the manufactures website?

This may be something that you have tried already, but have you tried going into the advanced sound controls and checking that the Wave volume is up alittle bit aswell as the master volume. Just a thought because my sound was dodgy ages when I had my chaintech mobo a couple of years ago, and it was that the wave sound was down too low. Hope this helps.

All the sound controls were up full. Also all my audio output was set to the audio drivers i had installed.

I unistalled the drivers and reinstalled them. That worked. I didn't try unistalling them before, i did a repair install though. Thanks Asus :)

just remember, if in doubt try a driver reinstall first, then ask other ppl that are smarter when it still doesn't work

Yeah, i dunno why i didnt try that. I usually do. I just think too technically sometimes.

Anyway. My sound keep dying on me. Started my computer up this morning and there was no sound. So i've downloaded the latest drivers. I'll try these when i get home. I don't know why it keeps dying though. :(

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know how the new drivers work.
