I think they mean Steam packages are or either CS:S, or both. :)

CS:Source is being released, with a guaranteed copy of HL2 put on preorder if you buy.

Counterstrike: Source is being enabled tyo be played if you pre-buy HL2 off of steam :)

#1 Amazon is wrong, and will be wrong until an OFFICIAL release date has been put out by Vivendi.

#2 That date is for the retail release of HL2

#3 You will be able to buy HL2 today, but not play it until the retail release date (See #1)

#4 The reason people are excited about today is because Counter-Strike:Source is being released today after you buy the HL2 package.

u can never trust a 0-200 poster to be good of a poster

It's funny how you say it's being released today without actually stating what you are talking about.

Yeah it is funny.

cool. thanks for clearing that up

so today is only any good to me if i have bought direct off valve and preloaded stuff?

It's not required that you have preloaded already. All that matters is that you have a credit card and that you're willing to give Valve money at 11:00am PST. ;)

Once you've paid for it, you can load it up and then play when it's done. If you've already preloaded it and you pay for it, you'll probably have a very small update to download, then you can play it.

Yes, it's about as interesting as a preorder.... which, funnily enough, it is. A preorder with a complimentary offering of CS:S.

Yeah....everyone is so excited immediatly orders it, then valve tells us that HL2 is once again delayed or something like that, or HL2 is cancelled !

You have no sense of humor that's why :p

Nope. wrong.

It's more interesting. Because usually people don't preorder games who don't have a release date, and the only release date it DID have was... one year ago.

Yeah, I really don't see the difference here between the Steam release and a pre-order. You're just paying the full price instead of $5-$10. And you'd be paying the full price eventually for your pre-order anyway, so even that point is pretty moot.

I'm only paying $10 to have my coupon upgraded anyway, so either way, I'm happy. ;)

For coupon holders, it's not such an issue.

For everyone else, it's kinda retarded to preorder for the following reasons:

1: You're paying more money for less product.

2: The game has no release date nor has it gone gold.

3: It could come out next year, or even never.

So essentially we have here some kids who either really really want to play CS:S (doubtful) or some kids who are so immature that they think paying NOW for a game that may or may not come out LATER (with no release date) is somehow going to make it happen more quickly.

Gamespot is right. Valve isn't doing clean business here.

... I don't think they're doing anything wrong. They don't say anywhere that you get to play it right away. They specifically state that you will only get to play it when it's released. So for those who don't want to play CS:S, you're taking your chances on it not being released for a very long time.

The only way it would be considered doing bad business is if they falsely represented the availability of the game, which they certain are not doing.

And as far as making it go faster? I think it will help, since the pressure is now on Vivendi to get off their asses and get their share of the money grab by releasing the game as soon as humanly possible.
