excuse my curiosity, but how old are you?, that comment struck me as odd.
anyway, heh I doubt someone would flame you for putting across a logical question.. (unless you put across your opinion as fact.. in that case you ask for it)
well the thing is no matter where the information is posted, everyone will know very quickly, unfortunately there is no information to post.
We beg Valve for info, and everything they have told us only causes us to get agrivated.
Its been discussed countless times before (actually its like one below this thread)
but whatever we say is "speculation" at best.
....and heres some for you
A. valve are really close to finishing the game, and would rather surprise us with a release than more rumors.
B. Valve are tired of being quoted and then mailed and having to clarify.. and have thus stopped making public comments, simply for them to find otherwise and then be branded as "Liars"
C. The team at Valve are "people" too.. put yourself in their shoes... thats pressure.
etc etc.
we just have to be patient adults, realize we are'nt kids in the playground and lil' Valve is'nt picking on us and playing tricks.
lets at least act mature and wait it out.

You would be quite surprised sir... as I said it matters not where the information is posted.
Its location and wether or not its in bold makes no difference, realize people will always speculate no matter the source.
Its just naive to think having Gabe set his words in stone will change anything.. they will still be in the same situation.
What I meant by mis-quoting etc, is that even THEY dont know whats going on.. and if they did comment (as they have before) and find the situation to be different and they re-inform us.. are they lying? thats what most people assume.. because everyone wants a scapegoat.. however I doubt Valve should fit that bill.

ive been saying this for a while, poster and it makes sense.
but if gabe would rather spend more time writing several emails to major sites whenever he wants to announce something instead of writing one simple announcement on his own website, then hey what can we say. maybe gabe has time to kill.

What people don't seem to understand is that Valve like to be seen as a company that can associate and communicate with gamers at gamer "hangouts" such as forums. Gabe has always been seen as someone who loves to goto the gamers to say something where as most other companies say something and make the gamers come to them.

People have asked Gabe this before (VALVe Info thread) and he said that he like how the information propigates though the community by the news sites.

My guess is that they may have really nothing to say at the moment. To say anything officially, Valve have to sync it with Sierra/Vivendi. The opposite example we've seen recently. Then, as usually, any company - to company conversation is quite a lengthty process involving some people like marketing, sales and sometimes even developers. Gaming industry has quite a tight release schedule, they always trying to fit the game not to interfere it's sales with others. That means that Sierra/Vivendi may need to check the date with some other publishers/shops. Some more delay... And so on.
What the problem is, the first time when Valve was immediately called liars over the Sept 30 release, it gave them a bad impression that it really in their best interests to keep everything quiet or the community will gave them even better mark. Nobody thought then that it probably was not their fault and they been working 24 hours a day to hit the Sept 30 date. Well, I think we still have time to apologise...

yeh, as a company, they probably have to follow the rules of the company (i would assume), and since the beggining theyv been pretty tight on info. Im guessing their is some company policy at hand, controlled flow of information,.. or lack there of. Not to mention the intricacy's that must tie into vivendi, marketing and such as said by others.
Iv heard before that once HL2 is out, they will be updating the ungodly out of date webpage..

valve does not want the information out, as it would aid the hacker to get any info. i think valve is making the right decision

Please stop it with this hacker thing, look it's just some pimply teenager who wants attention all this "oh no it's the hacker", "the hacker wants this", "this helps the hacker", blah, blah, blah really annoys me there is no big hidden agenda here and pretending there is just boost this guys ego.
Valve posting information would in no way help the hacker or play into his hands or whatever.....

For all my wishing that HL2 will be released in november or sometime before christmas, I sincerely doubt that VALVe will do it. Mostly because CZ is coming out Nov. 18 and who is going to want to buy that when you have a new technology game with an awesome story and (presumably) excellent multiplayer. I mean CZ is just a glorified mission pack with perks. HL2 is going to be awesome, but I doubt they'll make holiday season. But here's to hoping I'm wrong.

I think it's a smart move keeping quiet for a while. What seems to piss people off most is if, god forbid, they have to go back on something they said. Besides, I like the strong silent type. Suprise me Gabe! You sexy beast you!

(A). Because they don't want the hacker to know how much he hurt their progress
(B). Because they don't want the hacker to know how much he hasn't hurt their progress
(C). Because internal problems with ATI / VUG, etc.
Why wouldn't Valve be quiet?
(A). The fans and gaming communities the world throughout would love them!
(B). The hackers self-esteem about hackin' the Gibson would be broke
(C). To keep business partners informed that they aren't afraid to go public with the information they have and how it's going to effect the community of gamers, that essentially, support them.
Why are so many Headcrabs noobs?
(A). Because it's the 'net, who gives a shit?
(B). Because making people mad is funny..(?)
(C). Because the ones who do rule, they're jealous of.

i agree, valve should stay quiet unless they have something valid or important to say. if you're always on about something eventually people will tune out. lower your voice and use minimal words and people pay very close attention. which is what we're doing to valve.
