But again, why on earth would that stop them from putting such a significant gameplay mechanic as the Portal Gun into their game? If they want it in, they'll work out a way to get it in. Not for the petty reasons that people keep suggesting in this thread.Valve has been pretty steadfast with its stance on not seeing Gordon. Doug Lombardi even stressed it in an interview not too long ago. I think it's very unlikely.
Which is daft, since 90% of people who will want to play it, WILL have played Portal at least to the point that they've got the concepts down. There is no chance that Ep3 will require the player to have finished Portal first.
Valve won't assume that, I'm not even sure if they will assume that the player has played Ep2 before Ep3.Which is daft, since 90% of people who will want to play it, WILL have played Portal at least to the point that they've got the concepts down.
Hard to make that statement when regardless, Aperture Science was introduced in Episode Two despite the then even more recent creation of Portal. It's also the case that Valve don't have enough faith in where Episode Three is heading to actually show anything of it. This could possibly be because of their reluctance to commit on what Elements of Portal will make the jump to the Borealis. The unproven Portal Gun would be a likely candidate, wouldn't it?Keep in mind that Ep3 was already being worked on before Portal was released, too early for them to make any kind of grand plans for a Portal Gun in Ep3.
and that makes it not ok to put a portal gun in the game how?

Portal is very much a sterilised 'safe' environment for using the Portal gun in. That doesn't mean that Half-Life won't either emulate that environment (and since we're going to the Borealis supposedly with its own GlaDOS and material emancipation grids, why on earth wouldn't they emulate that environment?) and it doesn't mean that the 100+ minds behind a number of best selling titles can't think outside of the Portal model better than everyone here can.
another way i see how the portal gun could be used is valve using the physics engine more with a few portals. maybe an older version of the ASHPD cant allow humans to pass through. just because you say one thing doesnt work doesn't mean that it cant be used in another way. you still keep thinking about portal and dont think outside of the box at all.
Maybe we'll get the original design that shoots shower curtains....
the portal gun will be exactly the same.
What LandStander said.
Portals without the ability to go through them? Again, subpar. The ASHPD works best in a game that is specifically tailored to it.
He stated the portal wouldn't have a visual link. Thus it would have changed.
portal gun would not change, i never said anything about the portal it self. not being able to see yourself through a portal really isnt that big of a deal.
If the portal gun is producing bizzarely different potals, then the portal gun's changed. Besides, it is a bit weird. Why would you go from being able to see a clear image on the other side, to not being able to. Worse than that, you wouldn't be able to see wth you were stepping into!
jesus, you keep putting down that nothing will work and then you cant think of anything yourself. im glad your not one of the designers for ep3 or the game would be crap.
It's easy to accuse me of being unimaginative, but the fact is that you have not proposed a single way in which it could be implemented without causing problems or being subpar to Portal (in which case, why bother?).
So maybe... Just maybe... You're the one being dumb here.
Ask Valve, they put both on the ship manifests you see in Episode Two.One question: Why? Why do I need emancipation grids and insane AIs in my Half-Life experience? What purpose does this serve?
