For OP4:
The legions of annoying pro-Shepards
For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
For the race-x invasion with no motive
For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)
Black opps
Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)
Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
Stupid baby shocktrooper gun

BS:
Barney not having armour yet when he should have
Magic HUD
Again helmetless HEV
Useful teleport evedence that noone listens to cause it's in BS

Decay:
Again helmetless HEV

I didn't like decay cause of the console FPS cruddy controller! :p

Everything else I can live with.

Don't play the games then...mmmkay?

I love the games, it's just they didn't care what they were doing to the story. (ie raping it)

the long jump module was part of Half Life so to complain about that in OP4...well its whatever.

as Shens put it so nicely, don't like it? don't play it!!! ;)

edit: i highly doubt Gearbox did all the things they did with OP4 without the blessings of Valve.
so if its in the game, Valve approved it.. thats how it should be seen.

But those were all the good things...
Gearbox did a great job of OP4 - soldiers, non stop action
the black ops were fun- they were just sent in to nuke the place and only fought soldiers cos they clashed with the survivors who should have been evacuated
my only gripe was that there were too many of them numbers wise but thats being petty
Sure we dont know much about Race X but they can be expanded upon plus they were damn tough to fight
and seriously after 2 halflife games what do we really know about the Xen forces - not much
Captured Garg trapped by marines - not impossible
Gordon critisms - the helmet could fold back into the suit - it wasnt an armoured helmet and saying he was missing the long jump module is like asking where was gordons wheelbarrow of ammo and guns!!!
Seriously enjoy it as a good game that is in all honestly very faithful to halfllife

The games were fun to play but Race X was a horrible idea, the Gman line - stupid....other than that I don't mind em. Oh and Shepard. Adrian Shepard.

How does that make the game bad?

It's like me saying that Halo is rubbish because people like it

For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
How does that ruin his character

It's a minute, and almost uncontradictable, huint about his nature (I mean, how so? they are obvioudsly both special for their race [I can't imagine a race of G-men having any need for humans])

For the race-x invasion with no motive
I hate HL for the Xen invasion with no motive

I hate HL2 for the combine invasion with no motive

Yeah, right, that's logical

For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)
Yeah, and zombies are amazingly original

Just like the huge spiderish monsters

Black opps
Another reason I hate HL

You will notice that in HL the B-Ops and soldiers aren't veery co-operative (IIRC) you never see em fight,m but I don't remember them working together

Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
I don't actually know what this is....

Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)
That was an error, but I'd give them that much leeway, it is meant to show us that it is gordon, not just any old HEVed scientist

Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
They set up a trap?

But that was pretty dumb, why didn't THEY set off the bombs?

Stupid baby shocktrooper gun
Just like that DUMB hivehind (They are both pretty badly explained)

BS:
Barney not having armour yet when he should have
I'll believe you (I can't remember) that does sound dumb

Magic HUD
There are games where you NEVER have an explanation and have a HUD

CS for instance

Sure, it isn't quite Valve quality, but it's typical of an FPS

Useful teleport evedence that noone listens to cause it's in BS
I listened to it, I may have forgotten some of it

I hate HL for the Xen invasion with no motive
"thieves you are all thieves"
I hate HL2 for the combine invasion with no motive
They freed the Xenians

I liked to fight Black Opps but they don't have any clear motive for attacking marines.

It's silly to say that the Race X invasion has no motive. Of course it has one, it's just not described in the game. The reasons for the HL invasion weren't really clear eaither (even if you do want to try and interpret the wav files).

I feel a whole lot more comfortable about Race X, after Laidlaw said that Xen is nothing more than a border world, and the Xenians didn't come from there either. So there's plenty of room in the story for Race X to fit in, even if Valve never really acknowledged them.

OP4 rocked btw.

Good to know
"vortigaunnts move out...on the Gearbox HQ...no I'm not stopping for directions"

ríomhaire said:
I'm not saying it wasn't, I'm saying it screws up the story.

It doesnt really, it just lets you play as a army guy that gets send it to kill everyone.
How does it screw up the story?
If you mean that it gives you no reason for the invasion of aliens, then you should have played trough HL .
Atleast I think you were meant to have played HL to understand it a bit.

The legions of annoying pro-Shepards
-You know you wuv us. :p
For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
-That throwaway line hardly gives away who he is or anything.
For the race-x invasion with no motive
-Revenge for captured babies.
For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)
By HL standards it is. They're the only enemy of all five games with a laser attack.
Black opps
-That actually fixed the problem in HL that the black op team was exclusively female.
Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
-Although it is probably a glitch, it does unintentionally provide one of the most dramatic visuals of the game.
Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)
-Technically, HL1 made the same mistake, as none of the suits on xen have longjump modules either. Also, valve seems to be more in the 'no-helmet' way of doing things. Just imagine it's retractible or something.
Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
-Okay, you win this round. :p
Stupid baby shocktrooper gun
-Best alien weapon of all the games so far.

BS:
Barney not having armour yet when he should have
-True, but minor.
Magic HUD
-Black mesa has holograms. So can his hat.

For that part, I am sure the black ops and marines were working together. Not only for the fact they don't attack each other when together, that part where you get knocked out and your weapons taken off you...

There are black ops staking out the warehouse, and the military set up a trap for you (they know you are coming, thanks to the black ops). Both these factions, military and black ops would have made sure the immediate surrounding areas were clear before waiting for Gordon. That would involve them eliminating each other.

If the black ops were killing marines, the marines would be more concerned about saving themselves, instead of setting a trap for Freeman.

That's my interpretation of events anyway. Let's face it, they made the Black Ops enemies so that you would have some difficult humans to fight, rather than only Aliens.

It's possible the marines were attempting to ambush the black ops, and freeman just happened to stumble in. Or, the ops got into the storage area through the open roof, and the marines just waited for gordon to fight them, killing two birds with one stone. Also, it could be that the marines only just showed up, and hadn't been waiting long enough to encounter the ops or the barney.

It actually makes more sense this way, because if the ops were allied with the marines, why wouldn't the marines move in and help when gordon started blasting?

The legions of annoying pro-Shepards
Wouldn't that mean that the game is good and appreciated? It's a matter of taste.

For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
I don't remember much of G-man's speech, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
For the race-x invasion with no motive
For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)
The race-x invasion obviously had a motive since valve approved of it, and it seems like Marc Laidlaw tries to incorporate it as canon in the Half-Life universe. Weren't any of the HL2 aliens Race-X'ians? The antlions?

Besides, the pitworm was cool.

And you could mention the "original" thing for every monster,
the Strider ain't exactly original (tripods in war of the world), neither are the combine soldiers or antlions (arachnyxchachonyds-whatever in Starship Troopers), etc.
Black opps
Loved the blackops parts, felt like a real war and they were cooler than the grunts from HL1.

Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
I don't know what you're talking about...
Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)

Who even said Gordon wears a helmet? It's only speculation among the Half-Life fans, has Valve said anything?
The only Gordon model is one without a helmet, so I think it's safe to assume he doesn't wear a helmet.
The HUD/HEV-stuff is visible because, believe it or not, it's a game.

Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
Tranquilisers, or maybe tricking the Garg to run over the dam-bridge-thing with ropes prepared?

Stupid baby shocktrooper gun
You weren't exactly forced to use it.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything and more. Opposing force was a great game to play but riomhaire is right, Gearbox raped the story. As a result, I never did bother with Blue Shift.

Replacing alien enemies with extra super bad aliens
Replacing soldier enemies with extra super bad soldiers dressed in black
....these are ideas that a 5 year old would come up with.

You can say "oh well, you don't have to play them" but the fact is that Laidlaw and Valve have to be diplomatic and say that whatever happened in Gearbox's games is part of the story - it's not like they could get away with saying "ah, actually, yeah, the Gearbox came out with a load of horse manure for the story, but what can you do..." Even without playing the expansions, Gearbox have changed the HL universe. Some people still keep expecting Shepard and Race X to pop back up, when it's obvious they wont because they suck.

It seems like even Laidlaw isn't fully comfortable with Gearbox's ideas since we have that obscure email saying that Op4, BS etc are accepted as canon, but don't actually affect the story in any way. Say what, Marc?? Can't have it both ways. The story is the story, or it isn't.

So Gearbox can sod off.

In op4 you enter after Freeman was captured. Its mentioned by the fact you here the forget freeman order. Instead, you see Freeman leave for Xen.

No worse than the horde of annoying anti-shephards. Clamoring wildly for or against a video-game character that doesn't even have any personality it rather silly, IMO.

For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
To be fully honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that dialog came straight from Laidlaw himself. It's not like Valve had nothing to do with the expansions, after all.

For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)

Yeah, Half-Life was just a BOUNTY of originality, considering the original premise was based on a Stephen King novel. :D

Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
Yeah, Valve has never screwed up. :p (Load up C2A5 and shoot the red striped barrals. Try to explain what happens)

Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)
Gordon's third person model (Which was specificly made for singleplayer) Also does not have the helmet. Neither does any of his concept art, nor does any HEV suit in any Half-Life game have a helmet with it. Why? Because Valve invested the time and effort in making an interesting look for Freeman and want people to see it.

Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
Really strong cables, it looked like. We have the technology to make steel cables that can withstand a lot.

Useful teleport evedence that noone listens to cause it's in BS
I'm really hurting for a lack of a roll eyes emoticon here.. Wait, nevermind, found one.

I loved all the expansions and I like Geearbox. But I'm surpirsed none of you mentioned the stupid barnacle gun (Argubly the stupidest weapon ever concieved) and the final Geneworm boss fight (Argubly the most boring boss fight ever created.)

True dat.

hey well gearbox was just gettin its feet wet with those games.....they did a decent job on their latest work, Brothers In Arms (fun game)

Your reason for hating these games are unreasonable. You said nothing of gameplay, plot, storyline. Don't tell me you hate gearbox for making the HD pack too...

Because they created the posterboy for repressed homosexuality?

They had G-man talking in a cellphone! G-man does not use cellphones! He just doesn't!

/me gets sacrificial sword out

What was it i didnt even play that peice of crap to the end...

I hate Gearbox for spawning all the annoying anit-Shepherd people. I mean, get a freakin' life...

Now...

I like everything else about Opposing Force and Blue Shift though. =)

the black ops guys in op4 only become a threat AFTER the regular military pull out. Their job is to finish off everything that gets in their way. That happens to include you

This big green blob that came out of a pinkish portal. It was slow, horribly paced and boring. And had two handily place weapons on the walkways to shoots its eyes :|

Adrian must be a crazy SOB.

*Adrian sees a baby alien*
"I think I'll shove my had up his ass, stuff these green things into his mouth pull what I can only hope what is his arm and see what happens"

*Adrian sees a giant green alien*
"i think I'll risk my life shooting it in the eye and see what happens"
"Hmmm, its chest opened up, I'll shoot at that portal and see what happens"

The legions of annoying pro-Shepards
- We like charcter from Half-life saga, what is wrong ?
For screwing up the g-man's character with the "remend me of myself" crap
- Little information about G-mans character, what is wrong?
For the race-x invasion with no motive- Its in official OpFor strategy guide - because RaceX need our resources and Gene worm is factory for fabrication of Earth resources
For the pitworm (laser eyes, so f**king original)- Who said its laser? Pit worm is cool !
Black opps- Black Ops are killing remaining soldiers because they have very different orders...etc
Messes up geneworm skybox glitch
- Race-X have another teleportation technology than Xen or Combine thats it...
Gordon without helmet (or long-jump module if I remember correctly)
- Why? Gordon doesnt need helmet (like Barney or some sciencists) I think the Xen have breathable atmosphere (and Xen creatures can breath on Earth)
Captured garg (how, for the love of God how?)
- Tranquilizers, electroshock mayby. Or soldiers can captured Garg during materialization
Stupid baby shocktrooper gun-Best alien weapon of all the games so far. Alien insectoid parasite with electical attack - you dont like sci-fi?

BS:
Barney not having armour yet when he should have
- You right but its not important
Magic HUD
- He can have some hi-tech contact lenses with this HUD

Time to die poor anti-Shephards !
