And more on topic, most of the Americans should really try to view the world from outside of their borders; Some statements really are thickheaded and some of you all really are pretencious twats.

People in power are generally going to be twats, because most people, when put in power, will abandon (whatever they might pretend to others or even themselves) all pretense of being concerned about anyone but themselves and their fellows-in-power.

And because you have to kiss an extreme amount of ass and forfeit any morality you once had to get in a position of power.

Yeah, that too.

It seems to be a general truism that those who get into power are exactly the kind of people who shouldn't be in power. Which is of course what said people want. Perhaps the system of getting into power is deliberately designed by people who shouldn't be in power so that only people like them can rise. Certainly, the way that judges get into power (in the UK at least) is absolutely rubbish for everyone except judges - it's basically one big old-boy network.

Let them collapse. It WILL happen eventually. Every civilisation in history, at some point, has collapsed. Look at the Romans. They had a pretty sweet little civilisation going on there. Various activities and events (gladiators, chariot racing, plays etc) to distract their populus from rebelling. (= to MTV, sports etc, all the garbage like that today) They conquered huge ammounts of land and had colonies all over the place. Unforchunately for them, they couldn't hold it together. They got invaded because they couldn't maintain they're borders. Politically it was chaos as they had no set way of picking who got to be emperor next. There were diseases etc. Funny how they started out so well what with their republic... If that was too long ago for you guys, look at the British. Before WW1 they controlled like a quarter of the world. But stuff happened, and they couldn't hold it together. Now, they're not doing to bad now, but still. Look what they had... Just be patient. America will fall. It'll probably take a far bit of the western world with it too. But whatever. I personally can't wait to run out of oil. It's certainly going to be an interesting century eh? If we're lucky, maybe we'll have a nice third world war.

Oooookay, psycho.

Comparing MTV to Roman Gladiators?

Wow.

I didn't mean that they're equivalents. They merely fill the same role. Distract the people while you erode their rights etc. Stuff like wrestling and that UFC stuff would be more comparable to gladiators. I'm sure eventually, we will revert to actually watching people kill each other. Like look at the popularity of violent movies/video games. But hey, whatever.:)

He's right though.

Food and circuses.

People don't rise up on full stomachs, and especially when they're also being entertained. Simple-as.

Yeah, I wouldn't really compare the bread & circus to E! True Hollywood stories. Things work a lot different now.

The US will probably fall in some awful terrible crazy way, and pretty soon too. But you seem to want it to happen, and you are saying it will happen for the wrong reasons. I dunno, you just sounded like a damn psycho :p

I was aiming more for sarcasm to an extent. That and bitterness about the world in general. Haha, its probably just because I finished my exams, and I wanted to let off a bit of steam. :)

You do know that if we (America) "collapses", its very likely that it will set the world economy in a downward spiral, and if not the whole world, definately the North American economies, meaning Mexico (as if it could get worse), and yes... Canada.

We're just trying to emulate our big brother... the rest of the world.

We are one of the largest consumers of most products produced in the world.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I said "and most of the western world too." (well, something like that). But hey. It'll probably be a while before we collapse. So enjoy it while it lasts.

Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes

The US will collapse eventually - not sure when though. The Roman empire lasted hundreds of years, the British Empire laste a century or so.

When it does go, I predict China to be the next head honcho. Thats assuming China doesnt go the way of the dodo - its already cracking at the seams.

the US will collapse economically ..and most of the world with it ..you can already see it now as the US and other countries scramble for resources ..saddam switching to the Euro in 2000 for oil trade was the turning point and also what sealed his fate

Life is so much easier when you can blame someone else for everything - be it corporations 'controlling' alternative energy, or old politicians keeping the minimum wage down - I'm not saying there isn't a grain of truth, I just think it's a silly mindset.
I can agree on that. Obviously I may not be as up-to-date on these matters nor do I know the proper solutions to these problems as you all may do, but it doesn't take an economist or political expert to realize things are going into the shitter and it's mostly happening because of greed and stupidity.

I actually doubt any collapse of the United States. We may go through periods like the Great Depression again but I highly doubt any societal downfall equivelant to the Romans or other past societies.

If anything we'll evolve and structure will change with time. Maybe in the future states will gain as much power as the federal government just like they had at the start and will form loose confederacies at the cost of the overall "US Government" etc. Perhaps the United States will be more of what the EU is with states more soveirgn. Maybe not.

The point is- there won't be any great crash/collapse.

That's the most sensible conspiracy-theorist-esque (i.e. designed in the same style as a conspiracy theorist would) website I've ever seen.

You must have missed that part where I explained cleaner energy sources will not prevent global warming, nor will man-made greenhouse gases prevent the next ice age.

Clean energy has very little bearing on the worlds temperature.

Yeah well, whatever. I'd personally be more worried about all the pollution and such. That and running out of oil. But yeah, pollution (smog etc) is NOT cool. My house fan is getting black on the tips thanks to heavy industry and cars. Bah. Humans are pretty good at adapting to climate change, but not so great at dealing with poisons though. At some point, if I still reside in my sketchy city, or maybe future generations, I may have to move up the escarpement. (which is the old high water mark, back in the day.)

You must have missed the part where you are not the authority on the subject, nor did you prove jack shit behind your point. :upstare:

Its cool that you don't believe humans are to cause for global warming. I mean, whatever, believe what you want. I don't give a damn.

But I don't see any reason to not act preemptively about this by researching alternative energy sources. Even if it would not result in preventing the greenhouse effect, it would reduce pollution and there would be no need for the limited amount of oil that we have.

So focus on pollution instead of bitching about weather.

Cleaning the environment is ultimately greater than keeping world temps from rising 1 or 2 degrees.

Will we run out of oil? Sure. Is that a better reason to use alternative fuels than greenhouse gas production? Absolutely.

Is a great deal of our water and air poisoned? Yes, sadly. Is that a better reason to use clean energy. Absolutely.

Is bitching about the temperature ****ing pointless because there are larger issues at stake? Yeah. Every human on this planet has his ass on the line because we are ****ing it all up.
Is that why it's so hot outside? Probably not. Is that why Katrina destroyed a town? Probably not. Is that why the icecaps are melting? Probably not. Is that why there are holes in the ozone layer? No, that is a cyclical event, and so is global warming.

What I believe is you people need to get your priorities in order.
Priority 1: Don't argue with me about global warming being a problem. It is not only not a problem, but there is a bigger picture to be seen.
Priority 2: Stop bitching about global warming in general.
Priority 3: Don't drag my statements out of context concerning global warming.

If CO2 scares you, go grow some ****ing plants. My house has always been covered with them. I've planted trees. I shut off lights. I use very little energy. I drive very little. Global warming is not my problem. It shouldn't be yours. Ignore it. Do something about pollution. If the temps in your city drop because you clear out the smog, hey that's great. Chalk it up to clean living. Give alternative fuels a pat on the back.

Stop blaming humans for global warming. Stop blaming CO2. Stop blaming industry. Stop bitching.
Go buy some solar panels for your house.
Make a solar powered car.
Make a hydrogen engine.
Grow a vegetable garden. Grow a regular garden.
Recycle your shit. Make less trash. Consume less.

Give me one good reason why global warming should be stopped.

Anyone with a brain can realize we are approaching the peak of a warming cycle. Chances are in 200 years it will start to get colder and everyone is gong to bitch about how the world is getting colder and how it's our fault and we need to fight global cooling because the falling water levels are screwing with everyone's beachfront property.

The melting of the ice caps is also a circular event. The fresh water will cause a loss of salinity in the Atlantic, which will slow the Conveyor due to the rising of the return stream, which will in turn cause a cooling of the climate.

It's dust. Dust is natural. There was dust before humans existed - more so than now, thanks to the erupting volcanoes that caused the ice age - so I hear.

You mean to tell me that it's America's fault that your ****ing fan has dust on it? Thats faucking ace.

No. Its not america's fault. Everyone has contributed to it. Either way. I'd prefer not to breath all this garbage that doesn't need to be there. Yeah, volcanoes produce stuff. But adding pollution with our cars and heavy industries isn't exactly helping. Btw, I live in an industrial city (steel), so it's to be expected.

America is so thick headed because the thoughts have to fight their way through all of the fat to get to the brain in order to think. :D sorry just had to say that in here.

In europe the thoughts can go really faster because they did a backflip onto the synapse where the found wepon. Then after that the thought's brothers have a really easy fight where they can go faster to where there other thoughts was, because there was no fat.

To be continued...?

Oil is constantly replenished over time. You can't use it all up.

Who gives a shit why we should invest shitloads of money into alternative energy sources? Even so, that's a goddamn world problem just as Global Warming is. There are a bazillion reasons to not burn oil, and Global Warming is one of them.
