I never played HL1 so only just heard of Gman from this forum. I wondered who named him if its all a big conspiracy.

It's just a nickname; it has no bearing inside of the storyline. It's not his actual name.

It was the name of his character model from HL1 because he sort of looked like a government agent.

so governmentman saves the day by increasing Gordon's life by about 20 years FTW

Gman = GORDON MAN?
CUNSPIRASHES

As I like to said
//GMan - misunderstood servant of the people
by HL2 src

government man.

(even though it doesnt make sense anymore)

^^^ Yes it does. I doubt they were referring to any government we humans would know of. Rather, he would be associated with some inter-stellar beaurocracy.

G-Man is just the moniker he's been given in the absence of a proper title. It originated as a slang term for FBI agents (government man), who are always smartly suited and booted whatever the occasion, like Agent Cooper in Twin Peaks.

I think that in the credits the character is listed as G-man, so Valve also calls him that way. I believe will never know his real name

Yeah he's listed as "G-Man" in HL2 and the Episodes' credits, so Valve officially recognize him as such. It's definitely not his real name(if he has any) though, nor is he ever even called that in the game.(the closest thing to an in-universe name we have is "our mutual friend" by Eli)

I think GMan is an alien is a human suit like that episode of Dr Who lol

Because Valve originally intended him to work for the U.S. Government.

If the thread starts with "I've never played HL1" the user posting should be banned!

Wait! First we must check to see if he weights the same as a duck!.

Well, I think that he is a rockstar.

GigMAN

Makes sense?
No?

Then I think that its Gordon Man because HE IS GORDON FREEMAN FROM THE FUTURE!
HE TELEPORTED HIMSELF TO PAST! THATS HOW HE HAD WHOLE ARMY OF VORTS IN HALF LIFE 1!
End of capslock.

thats not actually bad he could be Gordon freeMAN from the future without the goatee

Lol EVERYONE I know thinks GMan is Gordon Freeman from future. We actually tried it. We put Gman's face transparent upon Gordon's face. Everything looked same, except the goatee and bags under eyes.

And those bags aren't testicles, you pervert.

Exactly the truth. If you listen to Gman on Xen in HL1, not only does he allude that he works for the government by saying something about "I relieved you of your weapons since technically they are Government property".

Also, his briefcase at the end has a black mesa logo on both front and back.

Neither which really tell that he actually worked for the government, but that he was posing as a government agent. Those speech-patterns and clothing style are most likely a reference to the post-Roswell legend about the mysterious Men in Black who have the habit of appearing out of nowhere after a UFO-incident and confiscate all the evidence. They are often mentioned to speak oddly and have other subtly inhuman characteristics.

Isn't his Base of Operations in Black Mesa, or was that just for the vision Gordon had in HL2 EP2? I mean, it would make sense for that to be, because he and Eli are..."friends."

This is my theory; which I may think I heard somewhere else.

G-man came to Earth as an Impostor, forming his Human entity that we and the others in Half-life Universe that knows him as the G-man.

He started out as some sort of Government Official, who had some keen interest in Black Mesa.
As far as we know, He did supply the Crystal that caused the cascade to Eli, and at the time he didn't have any interest in Gordon at all.

------- Gearbox integrated canon -------
He wanted Adrian shepherd to come to Black Mesa and be his "Star Soldier" to travel to Xen, and defeat the Nihalanith (sp)
But as Gordon managed to fight his way through and get to Xen before Adrian did, Gordon took first place over Adrian and Adrian just got stored for later use
------- End of Gearbox integrated canon-----

Now the true mystery is the other entities G-man has aligned himself with, His mysterious employers, with the addition of Breen having knowledge of him and possibly G-man and Breen having conversation with each other pre-cascade.

Though I'm practically repeating what everyone else already knows, I thought this would be good for these New people to have an idea on what G-man has done and his intentions.

beats the shit out of "G-spot G-pleasure G-man"

This thread is facepalmish. It just warrants so many of them. Been discussed too many times.

But I just realised... Unforseen Consequences... maybe... ah nvm

I know who he is. It's plain obvious actually.
He's actually a nerd hardcore Half Life fan who played all the games to death so that he went to a trance state and entered the realm of Half Life universe. He then killed the real gman and took his place and is now guiding Gordon Freeman through these events of which this nerd -who took gman's place- knows what will happen 'cause he has already went through these events as Gordon Freeman whilst playing the video games in our real world!

Hmmm I actually like the Adrian Shepard addition to the story. That would account for his observation of Shepard while he trained and before he did anything of note at BM.

Here you go Drucks:
